Year to date, 2 games that I really enjoyed but already owned. One that I wouldn't have bought, but downloaded and tried out, and didn't really care for. And absolutely nothing else that interested me.
I've been watching this one since I first learned about it earlier this year. I don't think I'd spend $60 on it, but very broadly, it looks like a solid AA title the same way that Greedfall was. More of a high end PS3 game than an end-of-cycle PS4 game, but that's ok if there's enough meat on the bone and its not too short.
@Jmck87 There might not be enough PS5s out there to make that a reality until some point in 2023, though. I doubt that they'll mostly sit on their hands for three years until they feel pressed to sell systems that are sitting in stores.
As someone who has a base PS4 and has been looking forward to this game for years, I see no issues. Its a PS4 game, not a PS5 game. We're six months past the PS5 release, its no shock that there would still be games made for the previous gen. That always happens. I bought some PS2 games more than a year after I got my PS3 back in the day.
I think that Sony will have some sort of show. The question is how big, and will they ignore the elephant in the room that so many people who want a PS5 can't get one? Or will they acknowledge that fact while asking people to be patient, that they're "doing their best in these hard times", ect, ect.
Its hard to get excited for games on a system that so many of us can't get our hands on.
@hypnotoad That's funny. ME2 is an inner circle Hall of Fame video game for me. One of my very favorites of all time. It offers a TON of what I want a video game to be.
The third one was good, but not special. I haven't yet played the first one, and was basically waiting for something like this to do it.
But we all certainly have our own tastes. There are tons of games that seemingly everyone else loves that I dislike or have zero interest in playing ever.
I'm honestly going to wait things out for just a bit and make sure that they patch any big bugs that might be a problem, and to read more reviews so I feel confidant that the game plays well on the basic PS4.
I guess my biggest question is HOW BIG is the difference playing this game on the PS5 compared to a standard PS4? I've been waiting for this for years, and have never played ME1, so I want to go for it. But I worry that I'd be getting a sub par experience.
Like a lot of people, I have little hope of getting a PS5 for who knows how long. So should I wait until some time next year or later to play this one? Or is the difference small enough that its not a huge deal?
Back in 1988, Dragon Warrior was my first ever RPG when my family finally got a NES. I put so many hours into that game, and it set my onto the path that I've followed ever since as a gamer. For that, its in my personal gaming HOF. Hugely influential for me.
They both look really great. I'll certainly buy one of these as my second controller whenever I'm able to find a PS5....Unless it takes so long that there are even more colors available by that point that I like more.
I mean, when the next chapter of the game comes out (2023, 2024?), its very likely that Yuffie will be a playable character in that one regardless, right? Whether you buy this DLC or not.
I'm still wondering how they're going to transfer the player's accomplishments from the first one into there when the time comes too. Its all such a weird deal.
@JJ2 Oh I gave up months ago trying to get one online. Its beyond hopeless, and only leads to me being depressed each time that I fail. I'm waiting until I don't have to fight for one, and can just walk into a store and buy one off of the shelf.
Honestly, this makes me even more depressed. It means that demand is at an all time high while at the same time production is lagging way behind, meaning that most of us have little to no hope of getting a PS5. Reading all of the stories of parts shortages, 2022 is looking like it might be too optimistic.
The graphics and gameplay look solid, but there doesn't seem to be anything about it that I would enjoy. Very dark, potentially to the point of being a horror game.
As someone with a family that regularly plays PS3 games on disc that are 15 years old, this is certainly not a non-issue for me. I take care of my stuff, and I like to be able to use what I've purchased. I understand of course that electronics don't last forever, but hopefully this is something that can be fixed with an update.
As was mentioned, thankfully the PS5 can still play basically all PS4 games, so its less of a potential issue than it could otherwise be. Well.....if we're ever able to buy PS5s, that is.
I just don't understand the appeal of this series and why so many people like it. Zero interest in ever playing one of the games, and I hope that they move on and focus on something else.
@GREGORIAN I agree. Odyssey is an absolute masterpiece. I'm in my 40s, I've been a gamer since the 80s, and I primarily play single player RPGs. It is one of my very favorite games of all time.
I enjoyed Immortals. Its cute, and fun. Well written and clever. But its like a minor league version of Odyssey.
I'm a Sony gamer, and have never owned an XBOX system. I regularly buy the Show (though not every year) and have for more than a decade.
I could care less what anyone pays for it on XBOX. It doesn't effect me. When I eventually get a PS5, I'll buy the newest version of the game for that system, and I hope that they continue making it for many years to come.
I have many gripes with the series direction, mainly their lack of focus on single player, offline franchise mode, which is all that I'll ever play. But the MS stuff is meaningless to me.
I hate horror games, and especially zombies, so this really sucks for me. It seems that they do horror games far more often than the amount of the market those take up.
Can someone explain what this means in regards to actual backwards compatibility, though? Which to me means being able to take all of the PS2 and PS3 games on my shelf, and play them in a PS5.
Buying a new digital version of an old game isn't backwards compatibility. Its a re-release to make money off of.
I guess that it depends on what you mean by emulator. If I was able to play all of the PS1, PS2 and PS3 discs that I already own on a new system, I would be all over that! Yes, no question.
But if you're talking about buying new versions of those same games that I already own, then no.
Generally, single player, offline RPGs make up the bulk of my gaming time. A lot of the time, I'll buy a game at release, play it through as I would with my own personality making the choices, and complete it. And then a year later, I'll buy all of the DLC, and do a second playthrough making all of the "best" choices to get the best ending, often as a different character the second time through.
And of course there's the fact that there are fewer and fewer games I like being made these days, so I get bored and need to replay other ones.
Hopefully, after all these years, outfielders can't just smash straight into the wall at full speed and be completely fine, coming up with the catch. But....I'm not counting on any changes there.
@wiiware I had the same thought! My playthrough was over 90 hours, and I didn't spend all that much time just sightseeing either. If the average is 30, that must mean that a lot of people just absolutely flew through the game, too. I can't understand that mindset. How do you even enjoy it?
The longer this goes, the longer I think its going to be before they're readily available. I used to think it would be by July, but now I'm thinking more that Autumn is a best case scenario.
@DiddyWahDiddy Same. Even with five options in the poll, I didn't have one to choose, because I just don't care. I don't even think of the PC when I think of gaming, basically. As long as they keep making games that I enjoy for Sony, it doesn't matter.
This seems like an extra slap in the face, personally. So most of us aren't able to buy a PS5 no matter how badly we want one, and they're giving free games away to the select few who have one already? I don't get the logic here.
I'm a big fan of most of what you guys do. I visit nearly every single day, and I really like both the large quantity of info that you drop and the way that you go about it. But one thing that I would like to see is a lot less blind positivity towards what's coming down the pipe, and more candor and inside information on what so many people are having such a hard time getting their hands on new hardware and/or software. Rather than things like "Good luck to the 90% of you who can't find a PS5!" to actual reasons why things are the way that they are, and informed speculation about what will happen in the coming months and years with regards to that. And the same with regards to games that are known to be in development.
Fingers crossed that by the fact that Sony is putting this out there in June that means they're optimistic that they'll have a lot more PS5s sold into the hands of actual gamers by that point. It would be foolish to release it when almost no one still has one, and therefore no one buys it at full price.
I'd love to actually own a PS5 so that I can buy it at release, but I'm not going to get too hopeful any more.
I really want to play this, but I decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to get it until I get my PS5. Now, it might be for the best that it happens months down the line and they have everything squared away.
I've played every mainline AC game to this point, and Odyssey is one of my favorite games of all time overall. I can't wait to check this one out, but a fixed game late is better than a buggy one early. I didn't play ME Andromeda for six months after it came out, and was much happier with my experience there than people who jumped in on day one. I think this might be a similar deal.
ME2 is one of my favorite games of all time. In its day, it was beyond groundbreaking and was absolutely spectacular. It still holds up really well. I've still never played the first one because I'm a Sony gamer and have been holding out for this, which I felt was always inevitable (though I expected it to happen years ago!). However, I'm a little down that they sound like they didn't completely scrap the gameplay from one to bring it in line with the other ones.
Given that almost no one owns a PS5 right now, it only makes sense for Sony to hold back some of their best exclusives until more people have the console in their home. They'll sell a lot more units at $60-$70 in the Autumn than they will in the Spring. If they release it in March, then most people won't even have the chance to play it until the price drops to $20-$30 later on.
I wasn't going to buy the game for a while, but jumped on it when it was $30 because I have nothing else I'm playing right now. But the reviews didn't really do it justice at all. I expected a AA, fairly short experience on par with Greedfall or The Outer Worlds, but I'm already 50 hours in, and I'm about halfway through the story. Its a very solid game with a lot to do. In fact, the dungeons are extremely challenging, to the point that I might never be able to complete a few. I highly recommend it.

Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Mass Effect Legendary Edition Squadmate?
@themightyant Its ME, everyone has a great bottom! Its honestly a great bonus for the series, lol.
Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Mass Effect Legendary Edition Squadmate?
Tali is my number one, followed by Liara and Miranda, then Mordin.
I like a lot of them to be honest, but the one I truly hate is Jack. Cannot stand anything about that woman.
Re: Talking Point: What Free June 2021 PS Plus Games Do You Want?
As I say every month, something third person, non horror for the PS4. Haven't gotten much of that in a long time.
