As previously speculated, Sony has inferred that MLB is behind the decision to include first-party game MLB The Show 21 on Game Pass at no extra cost – despite the manufacturer saying the Microsoft service is unsustainable in the past. “As part of the goal for this year’s game, MLB decided to bring the franchise to more players and baseball fans,” a carefully worded statement from PlayStation said, as reported by Inverse. “This decision provides a unique opportunity to further establish MLB The Show as the premier brand for baseball video games.” We asked the PlayStation maker for a comment last week, but never heard anything back.
MLB, not PlayStation, is publishing the baseball simulation on Xbox consoles – despite it being developed internally by Sony’s wholly owned San Diego team. The game is, of course, based upon the league’s license, which allows it to include all of the official teams and rosters from the real-world sport.
A couple of years ago, PlayStation announced that it had signed a new deal with MLB in order to continue developing the franchise for multiple platforms, after decades of PlayStation exclusivity. It’s possible that MLB may have revoked the lucrative license had Sony not agreed to – pun intended – play ball.
However, it remains unfathomable to us that PlayStation has so little control over a franchise that it funds, develops, maintains, and markets that MLB was effectively able to strike this deal with Microsoft without any input from the Japanese giant at all. Its statement suggests that it had no say over the title’s release on Game Pass, which means it’s walked into a contract where MLB can apparently do whatever it wants with the product – insane, really.
Furthermore, Sony is still expecting PlayStation 5 and PS4 owners to pay up to $84.99 on its platforms, which is a bad look irrespective of the circumstances behind the decision. It’s yet to announce any plans to offer the game as part of one of its own subscription services, like PS Plus or PS Now, meaning PlayStation fans will have to pay considerably more than Xbox owners to play the release. It’s worth noting that Game Pass subscribers will still have to stump up $14.99 a month, and the title may eventually be rotated out – but members will also get a discount should they decide to purchase the full version.

That would make sense. There’s not much point in ‘America’s Pastime’ being locked to one platform and they’ll be drumming up interest on Xbox through Game Pass. Perhaps next year’s will be full price after they’ve created an audience. Still though, why don’t Sony create an exclusive baseball game based on Japan’s league? They’re a Japanese company after all.
Maybe bring it to ps now sub users in that case.
Absolutely hilarious that Sony has walked into a contract where it has so little control over a product it funds, develops, and maintains that MLB can put it on a competitor's subscription service day one.
Even funnier that Sony walked into this contract and didn't do anything to try and provide its PlayStation customers with a better deal and is going to charge them $84.99 instead.
🤡
This is bonkers. What was once a console selling franchise for Sony will now sell consoles for Xbox if it stays on Gamepass.
Sony needs to renegotiate or get out of this deal and use the team to make system sellers for itself.
I think Sony is badly missing Shawn Layden right now.
That's what I expected. But I wonder if it even makes sense to continue with this franchise if they have so little control over it. They may as well put the talent to good use, and drop the MLB contract.
Lads, it's only baseball!*
😉
*Those that know, know.
Still, I'd like to think this is the last MLB game a Sony-owned Studio ever develops but it doesn't seem this is the case. What a waste of talent!
@get2sammyb Breaking news, photos leaked of Sony San Diego’s deal with the MLB.
@get2sammyb Wow, a clown company?!
You drunk or something?
If you don't want your PS5 I'll have it, how much do you want for it?
"It’s worth noting that Game Pass subscribers will still have to stump up $14.99 a month, and the title may eventually be rotated out – but members will also get a discount should they decide to purchase the full version."
Game Pass Ultimate is $14.99/mo.
Game Pass Console-only (or PC-only) is $9.99/mo.
@GamingFan4Lyf I, and most people, pay a max of £3.50 a month for GPU.
I would guess 'MLB' likely has all the rights to baseball games covering the major leagues, so dropping MLB and making a competing baseball game might not make sense. Although, if Sony stops making these games, MLB will likely go to Microsoft and future MLB games would probably be on both systems anyway. I would just let Microsoft foot the bill and use the talent to make something entirely different, unless there's tons of money involved, which there is. I'm glad I'm not the guy at Sony that has to figure this stuff out.
So basically, I assume this means we can expect MLB: The Show to appear on Game Pass EVERY year from here on out, and Sony can't (or won't) do f*** all about it.
Honestly, Sony ABSOLUTLEY deserves to be shamed over this. The next time anyone sits down for an interview with Jim Ryan, this ludicrous deal he made with MLB had damn well better come up. To not only have to be forced to put your first-party game on a competitor's platform, but to make it where your competitor gets to boast about offering their customers a far better deal than what you're offering your own?! Surely, Sony has to be aware--has to actually care--about how bad this looks for them, right?!
Cluelessness has no limits.
Sony best be combing through that contract with Marvel/Disney over Spiderman in that case 😅
If jack Tretton or shawn layden was still there none of these will happen.thats a fact blavk word up son
There's no way that Sony got blindsided by MLB with this. The game is going to be streaming on android via GP Ultimate. Touch screen controls must have been coded by the devs, Sony could not have been unaware of that.
@Rob_230 I'd like to think Sony has more control over what happens with the Spider-Man games given Marvel doesn't self-publish games based on any of their characters
Even if they're re-released, they're done through the same publishers of said original game like what happened with the first two Ultimate Alliance games or the re-release of UMvC3. It's actually a more different situation than what's happening here than people might think at first
@Shigurui That’s a good point actually, although IIRC not every game has in-built touch controls done by the devs themselves do they?
@nessisonett I think only 50 or more games so far have touch controls for xCloud on Game Pass. Definitely not the entire library so I think it's implemented by the devs themselves
Maybe it's because I don't really care about sports games in general but I could honestly not care less about this coming to Xbox at all
If that's what the MLB wanted, then clearly it'll do nothing but give the game more exposure. It's not like Sony themselves are going to put stuff like God of War or Horizon on Xbox that they actually have control over so it's literally just one less exclusive game
Hell there was an exclusive Wipeout game for the N64 that came out after Psygnosis was already acquired by SCE so it's not the first time something this big has happened. An IP that SCE had full ownership over literally started as a multiplatform series before becoming fully PlayStation exclusive. Stranger things have happened
I think this story is dead. Buy Game Pass and move on?
As has been said a million times it looks terrible, but it's mostly looks. Sony obviously got PAID for this to happen and in the long run can only strengthen The Show's appeal and marketshare. Does it hurt Sony's overall standing in the long run? I kind of doubt it. I'm not jumping ship, are you?
@RudeAnimat0r exactly this... its bad optics and that's it. Could Sony have said something sooner? Sure
At the end of the day it's a decision made by MLB. Nobody here knows the specifics of the contract between Sony and MLB. Nobody knows what MLB told Sony it wanted in order to renew the contract for the game.
At the end of the day SONY didn't make this decision. MLB is publishing it on xbox. They hold the rights to the game. It's their call.
People getting up in arms over this need to really take stock of their lives. Because this just is not worth the energy that they are putting into it.
@get2sammyb Lmao you're calling them clowns and you're probably preordering the game as we speak
Hell Sony's probably prepared to give you a review copy and some hush money so you say good things about it
@get2sammyb look at you.... you talk like you know about the specifics that went into making this agreement as if you are some kinda prestigious lawyer.
"They are clowns. I would have done a better deal!!"..... that's what everyone say until they have to actually do it. Then reality hit them in the face.
@TheFrenchiestFry Haha oh yeah of course. I had tongue very firmly in cheek. On that though, if they want to republish the two neversoft games released on PS1, i wouldn't say no!
@torne @Shstrick The MLB hold the rights to the team names, and MLB name, the MLBPA owns the rights to the players.
Sony could do a baseball game and just use generic team names and athletes not under the MLBPA but as 2K games learned with All Pro Football when they lost the NFL licensing to EA people don't care how well the game play is if they can't play as their favorite team or player.
I'm really surprised anyone thought Sony had any say in XGP getting MLB The Show 21. It's all there in black and white if you do even a modicum of research.
@RudeAnimat0r In that case, the argument is that Sony is being paid to make Game Pass look good, all the while refusing to provide a similar service or at least a similar deal to PlayStation owners.
Yeah, that's really not any better.
@doctommaso bring back Jack Tretton!!
I really don't think this is as big a deal as people think. Sony probably got paid well enough for this deal that they could care less what Microsoft does with it . Also not that this speaks to its quality but The Show usely gets hit with a discount price almost a month after release year after year . (Worked at eb games for a bunch of years) I think the only people who could arguably say this is ***** are the people who buy the game on day one , but honestly those people don't care because chances are it's one of the few games they buy a year and they just love there baseball. And chances are most of them probably have no idea that it's available on Xbox this year and I'm willing to bet that alot of the same casual Xbox players who do want this aren't game pass subscribers and will probaly buy the game outright.
We in know like to think these kinds of deals are major pendulum swings but the sad reality is most consumers haven't a clue .
Which is why I think Microsoft knows this and if they want to get this game in as many hands as possible becuse other wise they spent a ***** tone of money with little to know return .
@Rob_230 If they could somehow work out a deal with Activision to not just get ahold of the NeverSoft games but also stuff like Ultimate Spider-Man, Web of Shadows and the Beenox entries I'd be all for it
Activision's Spider-Man games at their best were probably as good as Insomniac's imo
So if I want to play a game of 'rounders' for "free" I need to buy an xbox. OK I'll pass.
There's been a lot of "anti Sony" sentiments lately because game journalists know they have the power to sway public opinion. It's one thing to report on the news and let readers form their own opinions but these articles lately, and the way editors react to them, has been so vitriolic lately that I can't help but feel like there's incentive behind the scenes to tarnish Sony's reputation.
@MatthewJP Technically you don't even need an Xbox
Just get Game Pass on PC or Game Pass Ultimate for cloud streaming on mobile
@MatthewJP Rounders was my first thought also...
I suppose Sony must be making money from this anyway, even if it's on the Xbox subscription service for 'free'.
Ultimately, this deal will mean more money in Sony's pocket to reinvest in their own first party studios so could lead to some good ultimately
Little bit like some of the scaremongering in UK media at the moment about the outside world. This is a classic case of the media blowing things out of proportion.
Is it an odd decision? Sure. Does it make them a joke company? Nope.
So many people on the internet so salty over a game most of them probably would never play anyway...
It's not the best look ever for Sony for sure but you're being a little dramatic.
"Sony has inferred that MLB is behind the decision to include first-party game MLB The Show 21 on Game Pass at no extra cost – despite the manufacturer saying the Microsoft service is unsustainable in the past."
Well that last part is pretty irrelevant if it wasn't their decision. I'm really struggling to see how this matters to anyone but the most hardcore Sony fanboys. It's all being blown out of proportion as if The Show is on the same tier as Uncharted.
@RBMango Exactly.
@ATaco You do realize that you're basically arguing for Sammy to have no opinion on what he's reporting on, right? Yeah, that's not how it works. It's absolutely Sony's fault if they don't have enough positive news in the pipeline to counter their horrendous optics of late, and Sammy can absolutely offer his opinion on headlines.
And also, Sony is doing a fine job of tarnishing their reputation all on their own with the decisions they've been making lately. They certainly don't need help from PushSquare.
If I were Sony I’d cancel the deal with the MLB and let them find someone to develop the games on their own. I imagine the quality of MLB: The Show would drop off a cliff without Sony San Diego and Worldwide Studios’ quality control development, and sales would suffer as a result. But even then, MLB would still release on Sony platforms because that is much too large of a market share to ignore for them.
Then I’d free up San Diego to finally spread their creative wings and try their hand at an exciting new IP.
But then again that’s probably why I don’t run major corporations.
@DeepSpace5D that probably wouldn't be good for anyone except the new developer
Baseball’s that one with all the hotdogs right?
@Voltan Or disastrous for the new developer if it didn’t live up to the standards that Sony San Diego have set.
Also maybe a bit selfishly, it would be great for non-sports fans like myself who have been wanting San Diego to try something different for a long time.
@get2sammyb You know if you're so in love with renting games you could just use Gamefly and get the game for $9 a month. You don't understand the license is everything. If Sony loses the license the franchise is done and MLB just uses another developer. Stop being such a melodramatic fanboy.
@kyleforrester87
Peanuts and Cracker Jacks
@art_of_the_kill The fact that MLB is going to Xbox is like problem #12 with Sony
Sony definitely has way bigger problems in regards to their transparency with consumers and their practices outside of something like a baseball game going multiplatform. I personally care way more about stuff like the pre-PS4 digital stores closing down or stuff like what happened with Japan Studio since they're honestly way bigger deals that do more to communicate Sony's image this gen than something like this
If this was something like God of War coming to Xbox or something then perhaps I'd be more fussed, but Sony wouldn't do that because they actually own the IP and control where it goes, unlike what's happening here. They aren't even publishing the game on Xbox and they'll probably still get a cut from all revenue made from that version of the game since they developed it.
As long as Sony gets it's normal percent of the sale for each download from Microsoft I do not see any problem with it at all!
I am sure Microsoft was willing to pay that.
I imagine, under the new deal, Sony pay less for the license than before because they don’t have exclusivity any longer. They had the negotiating advantage in owning the actual game development team after all, would have taken another dev much longer to release a new game of similar standing.
While it's unfortunate that PS fans have to pay full price for this while Xbox fans get it bundled with Game Pass, it does seem like this story is being blown out of proportion. Sony will still undoubtedly be doing well from the deal, and Microsoft will be paying for the Game Pass privileges.
@lacerz noiiiice
for a game that looks so lifelike why does the guy sliding into that base look so calm? come on really?
Why can’t I ignore staff members comments.
Does something seem off with Sony recently? Just a string of weird decisions, making Nintendo look good!
At least Sammy is critical about Sony, maybe a bit harsh but still. I agree with him but that doesn't mean I want to sell my PS5 or never play games on it again. If you have only a PS console to play with this looks bad, very bad. PS fans should get the same deal presented to them and not pay the full price (Sony's pricing for games are also a negative since PS5 imho). Or at least put it in PS+/PSNow.
MLB TS2020 sold about 4 million copies and the game is good, as is the studio, but it also has MTX in it. The fact it was going to be multi plat was known since 2019. Nobody was complaining at that time. Sony and the devs knew this game was going to be on Xbox (not the same coding + preparation for the Xbox eco system). Xbox also gets NHL21 in April + Fifa21 in May, all with EA Play which is included in GP.
What Sony probably didn't know was the GP deal and that's why people are upset I think. No need to downplay this deal. To me, it's a huge thing to put a first party made game on the competitors console. But it got bigger when MS said, it goes on GP day & date. Didn't MS funded Cuphead (PS/Ninty) & Ori (only Ninty for now). I hope they will make PSNow better or combine both subs.
@TheFrenchiestFry Fair enough, but it nevertheless calls into question what is going on as far as the leadership of PlayStation goes. Exactly how much do they still value their own customers and their legacy over the ability to maximize their profits as much as possible? Because quite frankly, their sudden commitment towards putting their exclusives on PC as well as the simultaneous shut down of three storefronts has left my faith in the brand pretty heavily shaken, and this is just yet another thing which seems to suggest that Sony is no longer fighting for PlayStation users and their own legacy nearly as rigorously as they ought to be.
It seems ridiculous that MLB can just allow MS to embarrass Sony like this, and Sony is only left shrugging their shoulders and saying that it's out of their hands. How do they have zero leverage in a deal in which they are LITERALLY the ones making the product? Which, again, is why I say that Sony deserves the shame. They definitely should have to answer for this to PS users who can clearly see they're getting the worse deal.
Imagine for a moment that MS bought EA and started producing FIFA, do you think they’d keep it multiplatform? Yes, I’m sure they would, they’d lose far too many sales otherwise, just like with Minecraft when MS kept it multiplatform.
So, why is it a surprise that this sports game is going multiplatform? Makes sense for everyone from a financial perspective.
I think the author is just bitter that Sony don’t want to give their games away cheaply to buy market share like MS.
Tough spot to be in. On the one hand, ryan "we have to recoup development costs.." on the other hand, "our competitor is giving it away(basically). Do we follow suit, to placate the fans? Or recoup costs?" The Board and stockholders are "MAKE MONEY" the PR is thinking "timed free, ps+. After a month or two, charge full price. Recoup loses, etc" Not an enviable position to be in. I cant wait to see the outcome.
@hoffa007 I prefer marvel's avangers to a baseball game
@art_of_the_kill I'd want a journalist to remain unbiased in the things they are reporting on, yes. If I wanted an opinion I'd go look at the countless ones on twitter.
It's very possible that MLB, as publisher is just riding roughshod over Sony, but that can't be the whole story. I can't imagine a sports league actively undermining the financials and image of a the developer that's been a solid partner for a long time. If they did, I can't imagine Sony even wanting to make The Show for them anymore. Otherwise Sony agreed to this. Maybe just as a marketing tool to get more players to see MLB, or to analyze the financials of Game Pass to better copy it after saying it wouldn't work. But either way the optics of that decision would appear ill advised at best.
Remember that some of the Sony brass never saw Xbox as a direct competitor and planned to make games for Xbox from the beginning. It was Kutaragi that insisted on competing against them. Maybe they're reversing from Kutaragi's thinking now slowly. Would Sony releasing games on Xbox and Microsoft releasing games like Starfield on PlayStation make the universe implode? There's already Microsoft games on PlayStation, after all.
@kyleforrester87 baseball is the one with the famous pitcher that founded a game studio that went bankrupt making Kingdoms of Amalur.... So it's relevant
@get2sammyb $9.99. $14.99 includes PC, cloud, and XB Live Gold.
@get2sammyb Sammy u somehow feel this site getting a little maybe a lot anti Sony. Sammy man you showed a not so nice face dissapointing. Sony is known for having great trust in studio's with massive freedoms thats why we had such great and different titles. And one other thing which your last piece was a big pile of assumptions.
@DeepSpace5D I Would Slowly Let San Diego Studio Develop Non Baseball Games To Get Them Used To Something Different.
Your an idiot if you buy this game on a Playstation when Xbox is charging that little of a price.
@TheFrenchiestFry Well if this is nice i would not like too have him as a friend the only thing i saw was a reporter that had a meltdown.
@Col_McCafferty I love my PS5, but I just can't wrap my head around how this chain of events has unfolded. It's still blowing my mind now, and I've had days to get used to it!
Nice try, though!
@Ken_Kaniff I dont know would you jump platform for one game?
@NEStalgia I know, I used the most expensive price possible on purpose and it still looks bad!
@Flaming_Kaiser I don't think the previous article was based on any assumptions other than the fact MLB probably made this decision for Sony and it still looks bad.
No, I don't think the site is becoming anti-Sony at all. As I've said before, we love PlayStation and hold them to a high standard. We'll praise them when they're doing great and criticise them when they do something stupid.
I still can't believe this has happened, personally. Maybe it doesn't matter as much as I think it does, but I still think it's mind boggling.
But the thing that really irritates me about this story is that Sony hasn't made any effort to match the deal Xbox gamers are getting. That's the bit that really frustrates me. PS Plus subscribers should at the very least get a discount like Microsoft is giving Game Pass subscribers.
I paid full price on Series X for early access and will continue to play after it’s off gamepass. Planning on picking up for PS5 when they add expansion storage to see how it plays on the DualSense.
If I was funds limited I would have played on gamepass and bought at a discount on Xbox at the end of its run. MLB made sweet love to Sony and the least MLB could have done was kiss them by agreeing to keep it off gamepass.
@Flaming_Kaiser You don't have to. Game Pass can be played on almost anything but a Playstation. I'd download Game Pass on my PC and play it there. No way I'd ever pay Sony that much when I could play it for little to nothing on GP.
@OthmaneAD I agree don't worry I am the same, I just think that it could be given some sort of way on playstation instead of buying it.
How can you admittedly know so little about the contact yet have so much to say. 😒
@get2sammyb I think the problem is... the optics for Sony here are obviously bad but it'll probably have very little real-world impact. Anyone with just a PlayStation, who already planned on getting this, probably still will.
So like most things corporate, the strategy for Sony is probably just to wait it out and let it blow over.
@OthmaneAD exactly. People are sleeping on ps now. I really enjoy the service. But I’m also happy to pay for the games I want to play and own. Going all physical this year.
@nessisonett Pretty sure we traded baseball for football in the national pastime department. I blame the 90s strikes. And millennials. They're definitely involved somehow.
@Ken_Kaniff Gamepass is only relevant on Xbox despite Microsoft’s best efforts
The service is incredibly neutered and convoluted on PC offering a fraction of the games available for Xbox consoles, uses a terrible windows app to launch games that often crashes, excludes mod support, and the hottest games that everybody wants like Outriders, MLB the Show, etc. never seem to show up on PC’s Gamepass
Don’t even get me started on the cloud service options atm
@nessisonett PlayStation is more or less American now, HQ is in California
What a load of rubbish. Since when has the mlb become a video game publisher? It's only their name on the xbox cover so extreme xbots don't get turned off to handing Sony their cash. Sony knew exactly what they were doing and controlled the whole thing. Anti-consumerism is harder to shake off than an act of idiocy.
The only possible explanation for this situation is that the contract with MLB was up for renewal and they threatened to pull the licence from Sony if they didn’t agree to their ridiculous demands. And obviously Sony is way too heavily invested into this game to just give it up.
@Stocksy I get it for free - legally.
"despite the manufacturer saying the Microsoft service is unsustainable in the past."
And they are right because you're talking about something completely different to the reality of the situation.
It is unsustainable for them as a platform holder to provide a service like GP if they want to keep making high quality AAA products, but being a developer and getting paid a heck of a ton by the money house that is Microsoft to put your game on their service is the ideal solution for them considering the Xbox crowd barely support devs with sales.
Honestly it's embarrassing you guys don't get that being a supposed professional gaming site.
@TheFrenchiestFry except pushsquare will still find ways to talk ***** on Sony like they have been and just like gaming media in general.
Gaming media be like;
Praise MS for everything they do despite still being last and offering no worthwhile games.
Slander Sony and never acknowledge the good stuff they do.
Mention stupid stuff Ninty does but let it go cuz Nintendo.
I think sony should drop this series if its only make them looks bad and greedy every years, it's the equivalent of microsoft make xbox users pay for halo infinity but ps users can play them "free" with psplus subs. Sony should told san diego studio to make another games instead.
Also for ps users: please don't defend sony on this, don't think yourself as ps fan, instead think yourself as ps paying customers.
This is a thing? Really? Everyone needs to chill LOL, It´s not Nathan Drake over on GamePass, it's MLB The Show.
Sony needs to drop MLB and just reveal GOW Ragnarok already! That'll shut everyone up 😆
I really want Sony to let San Diego studio show their true talents which we all know they have in making actual story based games instead of having them live in purgatory while making the same ***** baseball game every year (I'm not calling their quality *****, is just the same ***** ever year 🤷).
@Juanalf Agreed, its honestly a waste of a studio. Especially now that they make Xbox games as well. Sony is already starting to get trambled by MS. They need every studio in there small (in comparison to MS) arsenal putting out exclusives just for Playstation.
@2cents Even still, its becoming more and more of a reason you to go with Xbox. Especially at the price there charging.
It being on GamePass means I'll actually try it cos no way would I pay Sony's ridiculous price of £75($103.71) on the UK store.
Heck let all Sony exclusives go to GamePass so I don't have to pay PlayStation UK's ridiculous day one prices again.
£70 does not equal $70.
I'm a Sony gamer, and have never owned an XBOX system. I regularly buy the Show (though not every year) and have for more than a decade.
I could care less what anyone pays for it on XBOX. It doesn't effect me. When I eventually get a PS5, I'll buy the newest version of the game for that system, and I hope that they continue making it for many years to come.
I have many gripes with the series direction, mainly their lack of focus on single player, offline franchise mode, which is all that I'll ever play. But the MS stuff is meaningless to me.
@Unlucky13
"I could care less what anyone pays for it on XBOX."
So you do, in fact, care about this issue to some extent, then?
Personally, I can't wait for the Xbox crowd to get schooled by the PS crowd through crossplay. The Show isn't FIFA or Madden. MLB to Xbox users, "Here's a 'free' ass kicking, enjoy!".
@get2sammyb lol 😆. Fair play!
@get2sammyb I guess there was little they can do, MLB owns the license and I guess they can do whatever they want with it. Either you accept their terms or you walk out... which as much as I love baseball and MLB The Show is what Sony should do, MLB just prove themselves to be an unreliable businness partner if as we begin to believe Sony had nothing to do with this decision
@smallbrownbike I don't agree with the sentiment in the article, but I'll keep using Push Square for all of the news updates.
However, if you'd like a website that offers a different view on things, try here: https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2021/04/02/daily-reaction-why-mlb-the-show-21-xbox-game-pass-release-launch-good-thing-sony/
There's an interesting line about Sony now being in a solid position to compare sales on Game Pass vs full price sales.
@TheCollector316 ...or Shawn Layden or Andrew House. Instead they've got Jim "bonuses and free lunches" Ryan....
@The_Real_JMK ok then...
@get2sammyb I thought I'd give you a shout because you seem to be getting it from all angles in this comment section.
I just wanted to say that what I love about Push Square (and NL and PX) is that you don't shill to the companies you report on. At least you don't outwardly appear to do so from my perspective anyway! You give criticism where criticism is due and praise where praise is due.
Whether I agree or not with the criticism or praise is not necessarily relevant, I fall on both sides of the fence with plenty of the sites opinions. That's a good thing though, it shows that you are willing to voice valid opinions even if they can be divisive.
I don't think it has become overly negative yet, I'm sure you may find your breaking point with it in terms of the sites readership but I suspect it's still a long way off. It's nowhere near as bad as the last website I used to visit before I found NL and by extension PS and PX. That site was WiiUDaily which subsequently became NintendoToday, the line they crossed for me was when every positive article was tinged with a closing line that brought it back to the site's overall negative perception of Nintendo at the time which I found to be unhelpful and depressing. The difference with you is that your frustration for certain issues seems to come from a genuine love for all things Playstation so it's much more positive and for me is much more enjoyable to read about.
But yeah, I've never considered myself to be a popular person or a good businessman so my opinion may not be worth much but I just wanted to say I appreciate the appropriate tone that you take with your articles!
@Shepherd_Tallon PSlifestyle is just not as good as Pushsquare. They are more late with news and stories and don't post as much, also the comments section is usually only made up of the same 3 people commenting.
I'm sure there are great people working there and I wish them the best but I would definitely recommend PSU.com over them if you're looking for an alternative to Pushsquare.
@Juanalf Honestly the best thing about Push Square is that the news is bang on and super fast. It's up before most other sites.
I like PSU too, but the comments sections don't bother me. Push Square is actually the only comment section on the internet that I visit regularly. I block them on most other sites with plug ins.
I just use those other sites as supplements to this one.
I think we all knew this was the case.
Just a shame that Sony didn't react and put this on PS Now to try and get the ball rolling with that service.
I do wonder though if they'll get access to Game Pass data for this game so they can see from themselves if it this route is worth taking for them?
@Ken_Kaniff small in comparison are you high? Trampled by MS? you are talking nonsense!
@Ken_Kaniff why is that then? companies like boomerang offer games through the letterbox for cheap & have done for decades! yet guess what games still sell.
I don't understand. A lot of people are hoping that Bethesda has some agreement place that will let them publish some games on the Playstation still; but if the reverse is true for something like MLB, it's the end of the world?
@The_Real_JMK ok then...
@get2sammyb even funnier that people know close to nothing about the details of the contract and think they actually know better than those who were part of the negotiations.
But hey, it's the internet. So easy to think we'd do better from the comfort of our couch.
As someone who owns both a series x and a ps5 I'm pretty pissed with Sony at the moment. I foolishly pre-ordered and Sony don't let you cancel.
@thedevilsjester Stop entertaining that possibility. Microsoft payed 7 billion to get those games off playstation, nothing more. They were never at risk of not coming to Xbox. They are not coming to other systems.
@Nem I never said I was. I couldn't care less about Bethesda; I just found it odd that a lot of people are holding out hope that it happens one direction; but seeing it as a platform failure if it happens the other direction.

Dude! This is what I literally said to a buddy of mine yesterday. But I guess it’s the “free” aspect of GamePass. Funnier still is seeing people say “I play PlayStation for God Of War, Uncharted, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc. I don’t care about anything else.” and even though none of those games are on the spot MLB: The Show is in they’re all losing their minds.
@CosmicFuzz Pre-order lesson learned my friend. Never pre-order (ever).
Wouldn't put it past Sony to let this play out, collect the pre-order and week 1 sales, and announce it as a PS Plus title in May or June.
Why say theyll give it up now and give up millions of pre-order and early week sales?
@get2sammyb As you said in a previous article, there have clearly been some very poor negotiations happening from Sony around this whole drama.
If I were Sony, Id walk. Who are the MLB to tell Sony what they have to do when theyre fronting all the money? Seriously, if thats how they wanna be and I were Sony, then Id tell them develop your own game then and goodluck getting that kind of quality from Electronic Arts that cant appease their Madden and NHL fans.
Bytheway, Microsoft got a rare gem, its a legitimate game from Sony and Microsoft sees it at a victory, not a favor or anything like that, theres no "Hey Sony, you scratched our back, so we'll scratch yours." Phil Spencer took an opportunity and PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan and now Executive Herman Hulst were STUPID enough to fall for the bait trying to play it safe rather then using their brain and taking a gamble with a threat to pull the deal altogether, and wouldve won, and now their own fans are and should be furious.
Xbox are NOT going to rotate the only MLB game they have, and a game from Sony let alone with that kind of quality out, they see tremendous value in getting an IP from Sony that requires nothing of them but the pocket change they paid for it out of their sight. This ones staying in the catalog as a personal Trophy (no pun intended) for Microsoft from Sony. Jim Ryans a spinless idiot and Herman Hulst, the once king of Guerilla Games really screwed this up. Can you imagine seeing Master Chief on Switch or Mario seen on PS5? Thats not good for the company's that own those IPs. Gears of War trilogy doesnt make money on Xbox anymore, what, are we gonna see Microsoft port Gears, Gears 2, and Gears 3 to PlayStation? No, because that would be equally as stupid a move as what Jim Ryan just let happen, what a putz.
