Can someone explain what you mean by loadouts? I've been playing games a long time, but I've never encountered the team before. Going into the menu and switching seems really easy to me. What would be the process otherwise?
@DavLFC I was actually extremely comfortable with it immediately. Its not exactly like the ones in Uncharted, but its very close. Having played AC and Uncharted for the past 13 years, it was super easy to step into this one and just go. Felt very natural.
I gave up on ES Online pretty quickly due to the enormous amount of space that it takes on the PS4, given that updates require 100 gigs before they'll load. Hopefully, that will be less of an issue on the PS5.
@LiamCroft I totally agree. I want the PS5 to keep track of everything that I do on the console, and for how long. We know that they collect that data anyways, why not let us have it too?
I want NG+ and a playtime tracker. But along with NG+, I'd like to be able to enable charms that give some unrealistic bonuses too. Unlimited arrows and throwing blades for example. Let the second time through be just for fun.
I buy story DLC for RPG games if it looks good, and I'm happy to do so if it expands and fills out the game for a second playthrough. But I've never bought anything cosmetic, and never would. I'm still of the mind that those things should all be unlockable through enough gameplay.
I've never understood what the complaint is about the battery life on the DS4. I mean, after I game for a few hours, I turn the PS4 off and plug the controller in. Is that so hard?
When the PS4 came out, I was delighted that I could charge the controller on its own rather than needing to plug it into the PS3 while the system was turned on. Now, I just have a cable next to my couch.
In the last two console generations, the term "launch window" was used pretty loosely to mean just about anything within a year of the release. I'm hopeful that it comes out in 2021.
It depends wholly on whether AC Valhalla is a PS5 launch title or not. If I can buy the PS5 version the day the system comes out, then I totally want to do so. However, if the PS5 edition is pushed back a few months like some other titles are, then I'll just wait.
I would also love to be able to change the time of day. I sometimes cheat by fast traveling far away and then back again. There are lots of things that I only want to do in the daylight.
@Dreman99 Yeah, I would never even attempt that game. I had a few friends that told me about it, and I just laughed. Not anywhere close to my deal. Tsushima, HZD, and AC are about as action oriented as I get.
@Constable_What Without the kunai, there is absolutely no way that I could defeat the various Brutes, or the ones that set their weapons on fire. They just ragdoll me to death otherwise. That weapon has made the game playable for me.
@Strumtrulescent Oh yeah totally. I always play games very slowly and carefully, finding everything that I can, and exploring every corner before I move on. I did absolutely everything on the first map before I moved onto the second section, and now I've done most things on the lower half of the second one. I have all of my weapons and pouches maxed out, and most of my armor, including two sets that I've gotten in Act 2. If I hadn't, I'd probably die in most battles, lol. The enemies in the second act are no joke. Regular ones will rough me up if I'm not careful. I wish that I was able to carry more throwing weapons and arrows on me, because I run out quickly, and the further into the game that I get, the fewer that the enemies drop when I kill them. And the timing on the stand offs gets harder and harder the further I go. At the end of Act 1, I was getting it right about 75% of the time. Now, its about 25%.
I always have to laugh at how different people are with things. Standard difficultly is totally pushing me to my limits. Its as hard as I could ever take with a game. And there are people who say that HARD mode is too easy, lol. And the Devs have added something beyond that now. I just can't react that fast, and I die quite a lot.
@Salt_AU I'm actually having an extremely challenging time with the game, into Act 2. I found it to be brutally difficult at the very start, then I felt that I got the hang of it by the end of Act 1. But now that I'm facing more difficult enemies in the second area, nearly every battle, and every standoff nearly kills me, and some do. And that's all despite me maxing out my skills and equipment as much as I can at a slow pace.
Since the game, for reasons unknown, doesn't track time played, I can only guess. But I'd say I've put in between 20-30 hours so far, near the start of Act 2. I went back and completed as much as I could find in the first area before doing anything at all in the second.
So far, I give the game an 8/10. It's very good, and I'm certainly enjoying it. But its not as good as TW3, HZD or AC Odyssey. Maybe not DA Inquisition either.
What's the big problem with two good games coming out at the same time? Its not like you have to pick only one, and will never play the other, right? I see it as a total win. Play the game you want more (or flip a coin, if you can't choose) and then by the time you're finished with it, maybe the other one has gone on sale.
Either way, with big games like this, it means that for me I have three to four months straight of gaming lined up at that point between the two.
All of that being said, I'm much more looking forward to AC Valhalla, and will wait to buy it with my PS5, whenever that happens. If the PS5 release of the game isn't at system launch, then so be it. I'll be patient.
I've fully expected that $70 would be the cost for PS5 games for a long time. I have no issue paying that amount for new release, AAA games that I buy at launch. But I only buy a couple of games that way every year. Most of the time, I wait for the price to go down, and/or bundle games with B2G1 sales. So the $70 initial price doesn't/won't effect me all that often.
I've been a huge FF fan since the first one came out on the NES, and have played every one that was released as a new games in the US. 9 is easily, easily my least favorite of the bunch. It was just so lame, almost as if it were made for little kids. As a 22 year old at the time, it was a huge disappointment for me, after having loved the previous ones so much. Luckily, they got back on track, and X, X2 and 12 were all wonderful games......before things went off the rails.
@RaZieLDaNtE I have a very different opinion on AC Odyssey. Its one of my favorite games of all time, in part BECAUSE of how much there is to do. I absolutely love that aspect of it.
@Crowley22g I'm very similar. I play games in a slow, careful and methodical way, exploring and trying to find everything for myself. Because of that, and a desire to do most of the side quests, I find that my personal playthrough tends to be about 25% longer than what's listed as the expected one most of the time.
With rare exceptions, 50 hours or so would be my minimum to feel like the game was worthwhile. I like to buy a game, and then put all of my focus into it for about two hours a day for two months straight. 80-120 hours is a really solid experience. And if there's great DLC, then I'll wait until that all comes out, and then do it all again. Dragon Age Inquisition, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn and AC Odyssey were the all stars of the current generation. Games like The Outer World, Greedfall and Jedi Fallen Order were fun, but I see them as more bargain, $30-40 games than full fledged, buy it at day one experiences.
With my setup, I have no choice by to put it on its side, which I prefer anyways. Seems bizarre that Sony would make it so that putting on the side isn't easy and natural, even if the official way is to be upright.
I own Cities Skylines already, and its a great game, with the exception that the DLC costs an arm and a leg. I think that they've included it in PS+ for that reason, same as I feel about The Sims 4 earlier. Get people the game free, then have them buy the add ons. That being said, you can still really enjoy it in vanilla mode.
While I've only briefly left my house in the last two months, I'm actually gaming less than I was before because I'm with my two kids 24/7. These days, I'm mostly only gaming at night after they go to bed, though I do sometimes sneak in some games of MLB The Show on low volume while I listen to them from another room.
If it comes out on Feb 28th (or sooner) then its a day one purchase for me. Honestly, Im just killing time right now waiting for it as it is. But if they push it back, even two weeks, then I'm going to just wait for ME: Andromeda, and get Horizon ZD later on. Im sure that there are plenty of other people of my mindset as well, as the audience seems to match up better for ME than it does Nintendo.
I've been playing the series since the start on the NES, from age 13 to 39. There are few things that have been part of my life longer, honestly, especially when talking about pop culture and media. I'm very thankful for the direction that the series has taken with XV, after falling off of a cliff with XIII and its family. I haven't finished the game, but am 60 hours in. I wish that there was an option between "love it" and "its ok", because my feelings fall somewhere in between. There are many things that are great about the game, but many where it falls short of other more recent RPGs from other studios as well. Right now, I'm looking at it as a good experience, and hopefully the starting point of another golden era from Square as they make more.
I've been playing Final Fantasy games since 1989 on the NES. While I'm a bit apprehensive about some of the changes in gameplay, I've been looking forward to this one for years and will own it day 1.
I guess that I'm either very lucky, or don't have the high standards that others might, but I've never seen it as an issue. I game for 1-3 hours a day, and only need to plug my controller in once every three or four days. And since it charges in rest mode, its always ready in the morning after I go to bed. I also tend to get around an hour of game time after it warns me that the battery is low, so there's plenty of time to plug it in and save the game.
I read people saying that the battery is worse compared to the PS3 controller, but I really haven't had that same experience. After using the PS3 as my primary system for eight years, and then the PS4 for the last 18 months, to me the PS4 charge is somewhat better than the PS3's was.
And of course the quality of the controller is MUCH better than the junk that Sony was building (or still is building) towards the end of the PS3's cycle. My original PS3 controllers were great, but after the buttons wore out and I needed to buy new ones, all of the news ones (each one an official dualshock from Sony) were lighter, felt hollow, and would crack around the sticks. Every single one.
