Re: These Could Be All the Atari Anniversary Collection Games on PS5, PS4

Unlucky13

Is there a big market for Atari games still? Who's the intended audience?

I grew up with these games. They were the best thing that I had until the end of the 80s when my family could afford a NES. And while I have some nostalgia for that era because it was a part of my childhood, I've never once wanted to play an Atari game after that point again.

@NEStalgia Thank you for the very well thought out and well stated reply. That makes sense. I guess my own age and perspective had me look at it in a different way.

Either way, I guess its fair to say that I won't be getting my own personal niche from JRPGs again. I have to keep my fingers crossed for Bioware, who seems to be the only developer intent on making more of the specific thing that I'm after.

Re: Sony Wasn't Interested in New JRPG from Ex-Wild Arms Devs

@NEStalgia I guess my feeling is that in the NES and SNES days, the tech simply didn't exist to offer better graphics, so the player was left to use their imagination. That's certainly how I did it back in the day when I was a teenager in that era.

But as tech got better, so did JRPGs for a while. FF 7-12 are all games that were at least in the conversation of better graphics and gameplay in their eras. Sometimes Square would look to push the envelope in a direction that didn't work well, but that's OK too.

But then once the PS3 era started, and other studios started to really crank out games that looked fantastic, the Japanese RPG studios all seemed to just not have an idea about how to keep up, and a lot of them, in my view, just gave up and went to the anime graphics at that point.

For younger gamers, 15-16 years might seem like forever, or thats the way that its always been. But I was 30 at that point, LOL. So my expections were set and haven't really changed.

Re: Sony Wasn't Interested in New JRPG from Ex-Wild Arms Devs

Unlucky13

I've been playing JRPGs since the late 80s, with Dragon Warrior and the original Final Fantasy. And I miss the days when the genre was at the cutting edge of game development and design. That really hasn't been the case since the end of the PS2 era, sadly.

Do you guys think that we'll ever get another fantasy setting party based RPG that has top end graphics, UI, smooth controls, ect? Or are the anime style ones just all that there will ever be? I just have a hard time getting interested in those. I want a game that looks and feels like Horizon or Ghost of Tsushima, but as a party based game.

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Is Old Enough to Apply for Its Learner's Permit

Unlucky13

I still remember watching the reveal of Uncharted and Assassin's Creed at the E3 Expo the year before that, and being so excited for what the PS3 generation could bring. Both were very revolutionary in their day.

It does hit me hard that games which came out the year that I turned 30 are now 15! My young adult gaming days are in the rear view mirror.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Will Try to Bring Unity's Highly Praised Parkour System Back

Unlucky13

Its interesting to see the change in discussion about Unity. The game was absolutely blasted and outright hated by so many people when it was new. Bugs or not (and I played it after most of the issues had been ironed out), I think that its very easily the worst AC game, and that the series had bottomed out with it, and could have died had they not made the switch to RPG with Origins.

Re: Like a Dragon: Ishin! Won't Have an English Dub

Unlucky13

Playing games without an English dub is frustrating, but its not as bad as trying to watch anime and read as fast as possible. I grew up playing games before anything was voiced, so its not foreign to me. Still, I would STRONGLY prefer an English version of any game.

Re: SEGA Is Dropping the 'Yakuza' Name from Now On

Unlucky13

I'm pretty new to the series. I tried out Yakuza 0 and another earlier game and didn't like them at all. But I still gave the one titled Like a Dragon (7?) a try, and I'm loving it. Its a lot of fun, and I really like the tone compared to the others.

So while I don't really care what its called, I'm hoping that future games feature the gameplay and style of the newest one, and not the dark and overly cinematic features of the others.

Re: Americans Earn the Fewest Platinum Trophies for PS5, PS4

Unlucky13

@SerJosh97 Please don't come at me with that. I'm in my 40s and have been a Sony gamer since I was in college 25 years ago. I'm not a foolish child.

I play games slowly and carefully, exploring every corner of the map, talking to every NPC, max leveling my characters and checking off every quest on the list that it gives me. My play throughs are generally about 25% longer than the average completionist.

Here are some examples of games I put a ton of time into and didn't come close to getting the majority of the trophies:

I put 261 hours into AC Valhalla earlier this year and have 49% of the trophies. 63 hours with Biomutant, and 56%. 147 hours with Dragon Quest XI and 57%. 126 hours with FF12 remaster, and 32%. 78 hours with FF 15, and 39%. 95 hours with Immortals: Fenyx Rising and 41%. 130 hours with Persona 5 and 67%. 74 hours with Ghost of Tsushima and 51%. 57 hours with the FF 7 remake and 51%. And the big boy, The Witcher 3 with 370 hours and 49%.

Games where I got over 80% recently are the two Horizons, AC Odyssey, the Mass Effect LE,

Re: No Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade Path for Persona 5 Royal

Unlucky13

I played the game, but didn't love it. Very repetitive, limited scope, and a few really annoying characters. I don't know that I would play a Persona 6 even should they make one. I just didn't feel like had close to the control over the characters and the action that I want or need to. More like an interactive story.

Re: Poll: What PS Stars Rewards Do You Want?

Unlucky13

Given that its free, I'm in. The question is how useful it will be for someone like me who doesn't play online games. How much will I be rewarded for playing games offline on a regular basis? Will we be able to track progress for what we're trying to do?

If I can earn money towards buying games on the PS Store, or extending my PS+ sub, then its cool. Also, it would be nice if they made some of it retroactive and gave those of us who've been around a while some sort of bonus. I've had the same Playstation account since the PS2 era. Just saying.

Re: PS5 Has Now Sold Over 20 Million Units as Sony Plans to Ramp Up Production

Unlucky13

I waited to buy a PS4 until it had been on the market for about ten months because I had no interest in the release lineup. But when I went to buy one, I had absolutely no trouble. The shelves were full. That's obviously not the case now with the PS5. I know that more sales are a good thing for Sony, but as a long time PS gamer, its very frustrating that I'm having so much harder of a time finding one for myself due to much higher demand. Fingers crossed that they do actually increase production and most of us who want one can get it.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS Plus Extra or Premium?

Unlucky13

I'm never going to sign up for the top tier, period.

As for moving up from the basic to the second level, it will depend on how many games are in the list that I'm interested in. For now, there aren't very many, as I typically have bought the ones I was very interested in as they came out.

Re: Rejoice! Final Fantasy 16 in 'Final Stretch' of Development, Says Producer

Unlucky13

I have played Final Fantasy since the original on the NES in 1990. I've played every mainline release and enjoyed most of them. But I am not enthused about this one so far. From what I've seen, it doesn't even seem to be a party-based RPG, which is basically throwing the idea of a FF game out the window, and making it into a generic JRPG if thats the case.

Re: March 2022 NPD: PS5 Stock Problems Put Sony in Last Place

Unlucky13

At this rate, I'd say that the hope of things getting better this year is pretty much dead. At some point, retailers are going to start hoarding units for the holidays, that's going to be an insane mess, and there are probably going to be none to be found for a long time in early 2023 because of it.

Depressingly, saying that it might be easy to find one a year from now might even be too optimistic....

Re: New Mass Effect 'Now Early in Development', BioWare Confirms

Unlucky13

@Porco Honestly, I pay very little attention to online games, so that's all on the extreme periphery of my radar. I do inderstand that they've been hemoraging talent, but all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that it works out.

Bioware is basically the last major developer who's making party based RPGs, and that is my number one preferred video game type. I'm starving for more. So while I'm not by nature an optimistic person, I'm just going to really take a deep breath and count on it working out.
