Played like 1 hour of the demo that went up last week and was super bored along with it not being very pretty to look at. It was a bit weird that they only let ps5 owners play the ps4 version. Like they thought letting people play a worse version of their game was a good way to market.
Depends on the game. AC valhalla looked like a cartoon at 60 fps. The lighting was so much better on quality mode that I played through it and thought better of it on that mode.
Think they will do anything with the ridiculous looking side quest npcs who look horribly dated? It was jarring to see the amazingness of the main characters and (most) scenery, and then to see those side characters who look like they are straight from a ps3 game. My fiance who doesn't pay much attention when I game literally laughed hysterically when she saw one of them speak to Cloud.
@huntbearpig for sure! Part of me enjoys walking along side enemies and stealthing as if the npcs are 75% blind. That said ill take a more immersive experience if thats what the plan is.
Glad to hear an update. Took a break after 20 hrs, and while I am very much enjoying it, I want to see what the 1.2 patch brings before really getting into the meat and potatoes of the game
I dont know, I kind of enjoyed the demo. Sure the maps are a bit small, and the fade between cut scene and gameplay seem a bit antiquated (not the first game to do that recently). But I have to say the gameplay was quite fun, and the story was entertaining in a pulpy camp sort of way. I could see myself buying this on a slight sale.
I kind of want this solely based on how amazing the soundtrack for Nier Automata was. Haven't played the game in 2+ years and I still think about the desert and carnival themes.
Looks pretty meaty. I've taken a couple week break from the game as the story started to feel pretty grindy after about 70 hours.
At first I liked the whole approach to side content. Now most of it just feels utterly pointless when you can level up just fine without it, and you aren't really missing out on anything narratively. Theres just not much of a sense of mystery/wonder to the world because you know exactly where a thing will happen, so the story was the only thing keeping me going before that got too bloated.
All that being said, I do enjoy Eivor as a character and may consider jumping back in soon tho
"Targets 30fps" makes me nervous. I know a lot of games use this verbiage as a CYA but I'm weary for how this will run based on less than stellar performance of the original game on ps4.
I got really frustrated by all of the loading screens in devils daughter, which is probably why I dropped off after completing the first couple cases. If its actually an open world and not tiny open areas, consider me interested
About 40 hrs in and I can definitely understand the repetitiveness criticism. However this is the first assassins creed game where I've actually wanted to follow the plight of the main character (female Eivor). She reminds me of S1-3 Ragnar Lothbrok from vikings. A bit unpredictable but generally a good person (besides the pillaging). I feel like all other AC protags that I've played as are way too blank to actually be interesting.
Mixing it up with sleeping dogs definitive edition, FFVII remake, and FFXV for the umteenth playthrough. I kno FFXVs got issues, but it's what reinvigorated my love for video games, so I'm always thinking about another playthrough. Hoping to the powers that be I am able to find a ps5 so I can get the royal upgrade as part of the plus collection.
Jaw dropping... it's staggering. I haven't purchased Cyberpunk yet to have first hand experience of the bugs but I do wonder how shovelware like Life of Black Tiger or those absolutely garbage Gilson Pontez (Pontes?) games still have a place on the psn store. Part of me feels like its a bit of grandstanding on sony's part to capitalize on the buzz of the day rather than a true commitment to quality software. Unless they truly think Life of Black Tiger is actually worth 10 USD.
Edit- I know maybe a false equivalence given the publicity and hype Cyberpunk had , but let's not pretend Sony are the protectors of consumer rights.
@Old-Red that was totally me as well with RDR2. Regardless of the gripes one may have with the gameplay, It had some pretty solid UI implementation. I could flip on the minimap with the click of a button for a few seconds if I was really in a bind, but had it off for 99.8% of the game. I think HZD did something similar too. LOVE it when games let you turn on/off the minimap/compass on the fly like that
So this is an unpopular opinion, but I just couldn't get into P5. I played for like 15-20 hours and felt like I was not let off the leash to do what I wanted. As someone who likes JRPGs, it just felt especially restrictive. Did I not give the game enough time to really come into its own or is that just how it plays?
I have absolutely no problem with Now. I generally subscribe for a month or two every so often to play the hot 'new' game that they advertise (Control, KCD). With the library being as vast as it is I invariably find a few gems (or at least semi-precious metals) that I hadn't considered playing until then (SOTR and Vampyr).
Plus' free games on the other hand had continually disappointed me up until I stopped my subscription, and I really haven't looked back. The new plus collection intrigues (alas no ps5 here), but the 2-3 free games has always seemed like it's been phoned in.
@JohnnyShoulder I really recommend the Surge 2. I wanted to like the first one but the environments were way too samey and combat way too slow and punishing for me. The Surge 2 stepped the game up in pretty much every respect as long as you can stomach a bit of cheese with your story.
I put a decent amount of hours into JC3. It was super mindless and empty but good fun anyhow. For some reason JC4 just didn't seem have the same charm, so I stopped playing it after like an hour or 2.
@God_of_Nowt God that's a tough and heartbreaking story, I really feel for you and hope that your health continues to improve. Stay safe and best of luck!
Most of my family unlucky enough to contract it have had mild symptoms luckily, but I do have an uncle who has been struggling with it over the last couple weeks where it's been touch and go, which has been really tough on the rest of my family.
I'm done with the political discourse as well. You can lead a horse to water but can't make 'em drink. I understand that everyone has sacrificed or lost something because of this pandemic or its downstream impacts. I wish everyone a safe holiday.
@God_of_Nowt So sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. My condolences.
I have had more than a few family members whove contracted it, and its scary even in the mild circumstances because we just know so little about the illness and what it might mean for their health down the line.
@TheIdleCritic Very much agree with your sentiment. Should be a pretty straightforward thing to wear a mask to be safer. However certain (soon to be former) world leaders decided to politicize that. We now live in a world where there are facts and also alternative facts when the science isn't suited to one's beliefs, political or otherwise.
Not tagging anyone out of curteousy. I'm not usually one to be gaslit by ignorant comments but it is clear that some people have not been personally impacted by the pandemic and are not capable of empathy. As some others have said, looking only at worldwide recovery rate is an extremely myopic view and are not considering the physical (disease related or otherwise) and emotional toll this is having on the world at large and at home (front-line workers forced to put themselves at risk every day, health care workers who do the same, those who are experiencing economic or other hardships). Hoping that this message resonates and that people can be a little more considerate before they make their comments. That and I hope that people are lucky enough to have their and their family's health AND to have fun gaming this holiday season!
I just don't understand how people are able to get a console. The site (Walmart) breaks for the 10 minutes when the console becomes available, and by the time it stops breaking, the item is out of stock.
Nowadays, the populace of the servers would probably be more akin to the game's original "lone-wolf" marketing premise, however likely to the chagrin of the developer
@Shigurui such a good description for how I'm feeling with the game! Still loads of fun to play, but there's always something that pops up during a session where I'm like "yup that's some bull****" honeymoon phase is over
Interesting, multiple reviewers I typically go (aside from you all) have said the play as anyone gimmick is great and offers immersive sim-like gameplay possibilities. Maybe difficulty level/perma-death impacts how useful switching between characters is??
I was interested in this, but then I played Genshin Impact. Kind of got my cutesy openworld game fix in for a while. Hope everyone has fun with it though.
Been playing Genshin Impact for the last couple of weeks and I feel like I'm starting to see that paywall on the horizon, still good fun to explore though! and just bought The Surge 2 for a 10er and loving how they incorporated some aggro incentive into the combat system compared to the first.
Okay, first off I'm a huge PS fan. And also I don't necessarily care about 4k/60FPS. But I do feel like earlier this year it was made part of the next gen hype that 4K/60FPS would be a given with the new systems. It just seems like it was a bit of a fib now that we are actually seeing the games and what they are actually producing. Not saying the next gen games won't be enjoyable or still look great. I just feel a bit hoodwinked from the hype train.
May have renewed for greedfall if I hadnt watched a synopsis on youtube. The first hitman(new) didn't speak to me like it did so many others, but glad that people will get to enjoy these!
@NotSmartEnough Personally I didnt mind Aloy's and the other major characters acting, mostly perfectly serviceable, and in many cases much better.
I think if they take it up a notch in terms of meaningful exploration (random collectables were pretty throwaway) npc interaction and more npc dynamism in the open world (i.e. exclamation marks and all side content pretty much relegated to being found in towns), that would be cake.
Not that the game still won't be good if they don't compile my gaming wishlist, but just the thoughts of a serial open world gamer
Just started Watch Dogs 2. Definitely a Ubisoft game, but I feel like it works due to the setting. Plus finding the collectibles requires a bit more thought and consideration than the usual collectathons.
Dont really think I'd like the one-hit death mechanic. Seems like trial and lots of error will be the name of the game. Looks pretty fun to zip around, though

Idk I feel like I already got my clunky co-op apocalypse shooter fix in with Remnant:FTA last month. Anyone with experience able to compare the two?

@InsertUsername the entire brom quest for one. And much of the VA work outside of the main characters is stilted.
That said HZD is one of my favorite games of the gen. I don't usually replay games, but this along with Witcher 3 are one of the few.
