Re: The Outer Worlds 2 (PS5) - Mechanically Fantastic RPG Struggles to Be Memorable

TBubs311

Playing avowed right now, so this seems to read like a sci-fi skin of that game. I’m enjoying the exploration and combat enough, but the writing/characters/story is just not captivating at all so the rpg decisions/choices don’t really land. Sounds like this has a similar shortcoming, so will probably wait until this is on a deep sale

Edit: and characters with fake Mediterranean accents can get in the bin. Ubi games ruined those for me

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Ghost of Yotei?

TBubs311

Tsushima is one of the very few plats I’ve gotten, just loved being on that painting of a world. I will probably pick up yotei a bit down the line after I’ve cleared my backlog a bit

Re: Hell Is Us Playable Demo Is Seemingly Imminent on PS5

TBubs311

I played the PC demo a few months ago it was a bit janky gameplay but the atmosphere and exploration was spot on. I’m also weird in that I hate when modern games don’t give you a jump button. I get it it’s all part of a design philosophy, but dudes got knees, he should be able to give a little hop when I press x or triangle

Re: The Witcher, Kingdom Come Vibes in Blood of Dawnwalker Gameplay

TBubs311

Yeah it looks super good so far, except for the dinky skill tree. Kind of don’t see how it would be an RPG with a skill tree so barren (I’m hoping they just hid a bunch of skills on the UI). unless they are calling it such from a choice/consequence perspective moreso than the gameplay side

Re: The Outer Worlds 2 Wants to Be Much More of an RPG Than the First Game

TBubs311

While I enjoyed my time with the first, I hope they tone down the overly satirized tone in this one. It became cringey after the 10th time in as many minutes that I was reminded “Corporations are bad”. I certainly agree with the sentiment, but I don’t need to be reminded every 30 seconds.

Also that gameplay snippet from ign didn’t really do much for me. I feel like they need to show more overworld exploration stuff to see how/if they improve on that.

Re: Video: Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5 Remaster Is a Massive Upgrade

TBubs311

I can certainly acknowledge that the remaster has improved the texture work and the ambient effects significantly, I feel like something is lost with the color range. The original looks so much more stark and unique in its lighting compared to the remaster (at least in the video above and what else I’ve seen) it’s just a preference thing for me which is why I’ll stick with the original

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds' Beta Is Prompting Fans to Reconsider PS5 Pro

TBubs311

I don’t really like this as a precedent. A game looking and playing like crap on current gen consoles because there’s a mid gen upgrade that allows you to play an acceptable version of the game. Should be the mid gen upgrade allows for more bells and whistles, not being the only viable way to play the game.

Re: Silent Hill: The Short Message (PS5) - There's a Reason It's Free

TBubs311

Honestly didn’t find it too bad. There was some corny VO and theming around the high school stuff that felt pretty trite, but it also had some heavy hitting stuff as well. As for the last chase sequence can’t argue with that one being frustrating as hell. Overall I didn’t mind the 90 minutes I spent with it. That said I didn’t grow up with silent hill (no interest in horror games as a child) so I guess I have a bit less invested in it as a property.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 513

TBubs311

Playing enshrouded in early access. Got sucked into the hype even though I usually don’t like survival games. But I gotta say this is one of the best I’ve played. I’m enjoying even more than valhiem because of the npcs so it doesn’t feel as lonely and isolating (yes I know that’s kind of one of the main points of survival games 😜)

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 504

TBubs311

Just finished my second play through on lords of the fallen. Probably will put that down for a while. Alan Wake 2 is far and away my game of the year, but lords of the the fallen was definitely a sleeper hit and probably my second choice. I did not expect to love it as much as I did, even with some of the issues it has.

Re: PS5, PS4 Owners Are Understandably Irate with PS Plus Price Hike

TBubs311

@Texan_Survivor totally agree with your sentiment. Saved up enough to buy a halfway decent gaming laptop last year and my purchases for PS5 have taken a nosedive. It just feels like I’m being fleeced by Sony. Only time I buy ps5 games nowadays is for the rare exclusive or if I happen to see a physical game at a decent sale

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for August 2023 Announced

TBubs311

That is so crazy that they’d wait until there’s no longer support for the game to do this. I bought it a few years back but didn’t really find anything compelling enough to keep me. The dev tools were pretty cool, but very unwieldy with a controller. I always wondered if it would be easier with the move controllers over traditional.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 16 Sales Way Down, Out of the Top 10

TBubs311

@rjejr just finished the game last night and have quite polar feelings about it. The game has some insane spectacle and really high highs, but incredibly low lows as well. At the end I couldn’t bother with the side quests because it felt detracting from the experience. And I’m one who usually avoids finishing a game so I can do all the side stuff. Like you said it’s very oddly paced, in a way that I didn’t like.

Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Might Be Gaming's Best Subscription Service Now

TBubs311

While I do think it’s good value objectively, it really just doesn’t suit me as a gamer with a limited amount of free time. I’d rather spend money on a game I know I want to play and will enjoy, rather than gamble on a subscription where there might be some games added in a given month that I could play and possibly enjoy. That’s why going forward I will pay the markup for a monthly or 3 month sub when something that I want is announced rather than pay for the year and hope that I’m not disappointed each month. Is it rational, maybe not, but I’m generally happier for it.

Re: Consumer Spending Growth on Subscriptions Like PS Plus Is Slowing

TBubs311

I’ve changed my habit to instead of subscribing for a year at 100 bucks hoping maybe to get some games I might play throughout the year, I now wait until there’s a game I actually want, and spend 15 bucks for the month or possibly 3 month sub max then let it lapse. Works for most single player games. I don’t think I’ll ever have a lasting ps+ sub again. Just way too much of a gamble each month
