We don't know about you, but we never thought of Sherlock Holmes as a ruthless killer. The famous figure has always struck as the silent but deadly type, using words to get his way instead of guns. Apparently not, however, if this new gameplay trailer for Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is anything to go by. The detective shoots more enemies than he does uncover clues, all within an open world we'll be able to fully explore at some point later this year.
As well as raw gameplay, two and a half minutes of footage showcases cutscenes and clue solving in action. We're just surprised by the sheer amount of combat the trailer highlights. There was some of it in Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter, but this follow-up seems to be taking the feature to the next level. Exciting stuff? Potentially. We just hope the open world mechanic is done right this time around.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but that trailer doesn't inspire a lot of confidence from me. The detective stuff looks fun as always, but holy hell do I hate it when Frogwares tries combat. It usually ranges from mildly tolerable to downright awful. If Chapter One is doubling down on non-investigative gameplay like combat, shooting, and mini-games, that might be a deal breaker for me. Combine all that with the bigger focus on an open world, and this just seems to be something I'm growing less and less interested in.
Also, I'm still not onboard with these new character designs and voices. I really miss their designs and voices from Crimes and Punishments.
Interesting trailer. I doubt the combat will be as big of an emphasis as this trailer makes it look. Looking forward to the game, although I hope they can bump the performance because it's not running well here.
@get2sammyb That too. I noticed the shoddy performance immediately.
Looks like The Sinking City: Amalfi Coast Edition based on the UI and mind palace look alike
That combat reminds me of whenever you have a fight in a dream.
“ The detective shoots more enemies than he does uncover clues,”
Liam, what on earth are you talking about? He literally shot zero humans. He shot a wooden balcony and some ceramic objects that I can’t quite make out. Zero bullets passed through zero persons. If you want to take umbrage with his use of a gun in general and that stupid Wild West rapid hammer move then I get it. But don’t straight out lie for a clickbait headline. That’s just plain dishonest.
It reminded me of Assassin's creed. I'm pretty excited for it. Jon is growing on me but I'm still unsure of him.
I'm hoping his brother Mycroft pops up.
The Sinking City would have benefited from removing the shooting in my opinion, it was really clunky and didn't really add to the atmosphere. I also miss the older Crimes and Punishments and ealier designs for Holmes and Watson.
????? Nobody got shot ?????? The way I read the article was expecting victorian gears of war..... Oh w8 we had that in 1886 😉😋😂 dumb question why does frogware seem to ring a bell?
I thought the trailer looked great, sure it was a lil' bit janky but I've gotten used to that lol.
Hoping we get a release date nailed down by Summer.
I have Devil's Daughter but tbh I don't know if I'll get round to playing it for a while. Sinking City was awesome, though.
Trailer looks good, I just hope the open world will have more to it than Sinking City. The side quests made me explore it but they were kind of tedious tbh.
