Re: Feature: Has Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Season Pass Been Worth It?

Shokwave2

I'm gonna have to pick this up again. I played it at launch, enjoyed it, but found it too big and long and got distracted by other games. Now that I have about 2 months before Borderlands 3 releases, I'll probably pick up AC Odyssey again and finish it. Really enjoy the combat and open world of the newer games compared to the earlier ones.

Re: Guide: Best PS4 Graphics

Shokwave2

Of course God of War is #1. It wouldn't surprise me if GoW was also best racing, multiplayer and indie game. OK we get it, GoW is your favourite game, but half the games on this list crap all over GoW's graphics. Detroit, RDR2 and RE2 easily beat it.

Re: Guide: Best PS4 RPGs

Shokwave2

Nier Automata is my number one. It's just so different. Its a mix of genres all in one game, and the ending hits you hard. (The true ending, not the first ending )

I could never get into the Witcher 3. Yes it looks good, but I find the story drags on and the combat ain't as fluid as other games. I prefer Horizon Zero Dawn personally.

Re: E3 2019: Marvel's Avengers PS4 Gameplay Leaks Out of Show

Shokwave2

I reckon this will be a very linear, but cinematic game. As others have said, it probably wont' be a Spiderman or other superhero style game, with upgrades and freedom. I bet this will be a cut-scene heavy title with small spots of combat and free movement. One for the kids, not the fans.

Re: E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Demo Was on PC, Not PS4 Pro

Shokwave2

Graphics are one thing, but if the gameplay is not there, the game is useless. I'm more interested in Cyberpunk's setting and gameplay than anything else. Witcher 3 didn't grab me because I don't enjoy medieval-ish settings. Yes it looked good (back then) but its got nothing on Zelda BOTW. That game proves gameplay over graphics. Hopefully Cyberpunk will play well and keep me interested, and not just look pretty. Ghost of Tsushima also looks good because of its setting. It could have average visuals compared to other big games, but if the gameplay is there....it could be something special.

Re: E3 2019: Bethesda Isn't Giving Up on RAGE 2

Shokwave2

Combat was great, but the rest of the world activities were boring. Once you finish the story there's not much else to do besides clean up the side missions, which become a chore very quickly. I don't see how adding a new expansion pack and group of enemies can make this more interesting. Sorry Bethesda, i've given up on RAGE 2, and i'm not coming back.

Re: Round Up: RAGE 2 Reviews Aren't All Rock and Roll

Shokwave2

I'm only about 90 mins in but so far so good. Very Mad Max-esque with plenty to upgrade and collect. Still has that Rage 1 vibe, with collecting random junk to sell/upgrade. If you enjoy killing, collecting, upgrading, and killing, you'll have fun.

Re: Guide: Best PS4 Graphics

Shokwave2

GOW had good graphics, but not the best. Horizon, RDR2, UC4, Detroit, all had better visuals IMO. Can't wait for the "GOW is the best game/visuals/audio/multiplayer/racing game" to end. We get it, you're God of War fanboys, but admit defeat when it comes to it

Re: Generation Zero - A Woeful Open World Ordeal Stuck in the Past

Shokwave2

@LiamCroft I joined a random session the other night and after about 2 hours the host left and I got booted. When I reloaded my game all progress was kept. Not sure if this is supposed to happen or I just got lucky. Can't complain really.

There definitely room for improvement in most aspects of the game, but I don't see it any worse than Anthems decaying game or Fallout 76's mess.

Re: Generation Zero - A Woeful Open World Ordeal Stuck in the Past

Shokwave2

As soon as I read "explosive, experimental, and action-packed nature of Just Cause 4's Solís", i knew this review would be off. JC4 was one of the most boring and worst games of last year, both in performance and gameplay. This game is a better end product of what it is meant to be.

Generation Zero's world is supposed to be empty and the reliance on markers for quests is just hand holding these days. Time to use your brain and look around. I've spent an hour searching for a certain clue to a mission but in the end I had walked past it 5 times because I had not read the previous clue correctly. I wasn't angry at the game for showing me where it was, I was slapping myself in the forehead.

It's not meant to be a non stop action packed game, and because of this its sets the mood of being what its supposed to be: teenagers with little to no experience fighting robots. Yes the gunplay is clunky but IMO it adds to to realism as everyone can't be a Captain Price. You also have to get out of the run and gun mindset where every other game makes you invincible. I was getting killed easily and quickly until I started playing smart and sneaking around robot patrols, only taking them on once I had planned an attack with flares, explosives and guns.

I do agree that the inventory system is clunkingly bad and needs fixing to make it more streamline, but other than that I'm enjoying the game immensely. I was a bit unsure for the first hour, but after finding clues and getting in the mood of being in a bleak and lifeless world, I really began to enjoy the game for what it is. Something different than all the other predictable shooters at the moment. Also when you jump into a 4 player co-op game it makes it more believable.

3/10 is a harsh score. I'd give it a 7/10 personally with room for improvement in certain areas. Plus its almost half the price of most new release games.

Re: Google Poised to Announce Potential PlayStation Competitor

Shokwave2

My guess is a streaming service, where you can stream to any smart TV. And you download games to the controller, (prob from the steam library only), which is this actual system/console. Also Netflix, YouTube, etc will also be streamable from the controller. Just another Ouya/Virtual Boy, etc, except this one captures all your personal data and WiFi settings.

Re: Soapbox: Crackdown 3 Is Proof That Microsoft Is Still Playing Catch-Up to Sony

Shokwave2

I purchased an Xbox One last year, as i passed my Xbox 360 onto my son a few years ago, and wanted to try a few MS exclusives. After about 2 months of playing State of Decay 2 (which i enjoyed the most), Sea of Thieves and Forza, i ended up selling the console. Why? Because i found that those games weren't holding my attention like the PS4 and Switch games do. Plus 90% of the other games are also available on either Sony or Nintendo's platforms. MS really need to do something special or different with the next console. IMO the Xbox One had the worst dashboard and console performance of the all the systems. Moving around the dashboard was slow and always delayed, as was the internet connection. And way too many ads.

Re: Far Cry: New Dawn - Yeah, It's Okay

Shokwave2

I just couldn't finish FC5. You were repeating the same quests three-fold, and by the time I'd beaten the second sibling I was over it and couldn't do it again. This setting looks interesting, even though its just the same location with a new splash of colour, but i can see myself getting bored real quickly. I'll wait for FC6 or FC7 or whatever the next installment is called.

Re: Guide: Best PS4 Horror Games

Shokwave2

Agree with those that have already said it, i wouldnt call TLOU a horror game. Thriller/drama yes.

RE7, Alien Isolation, and RE2 would be my top 3. I couldn't even finish RE7 in VR, while Alien has the most tense momenta in gaming, and RE2 brings back the good old jump scares and gore.

Re: Tetris Effect Trial Demo Returns This Weekend on PS4

Shokwave2

Finally got to download the demo, been waiting weeks/months to try it. I first played Tetris on the original GameBoy back in the 80's, and thought how can this version be so special since everyone is raving on about it. All I had to play was the first level of the demo and it hooked me. The audio visual elements intertwined into the gameplay is something special. Easily one of the best VR games, probably equal to Astrobot, and even one of the best PS4 games period. Instant buy.

Re: EA Says Battlefield V Didn't Meet Sales Expectations, Despite Topping 7 Million Copies

Shokwave2

@jly1987 fair enough if designing and making your own game, but when making a popular and established franchise such as Battlefield, its a bad idea to replace gameplay mechanics with money making ideas. Spit out an unfinished game with missing modes and maps, and of course you won't make sales. I enjoy Battlefield V but it still feels incomplete for some reason, and not just for the Battle Royale mode which I'm not interested in.

Re: Bungie Pledges Long-Term Commitment to Destiny

Shokwave2

"The vast majority of the team is hard at work envisioning future experiences, enemies, and ways to play the Guardian you've been building since 2014."

So in other words, rinse and repeat for Destiny 3: same enemies, different colours.

Re: Two ANTHEM Demos Set to Launch on PS4 Soon

Shokwave2

I played the closed alpha and actually enjoyed it more than I thought. Felt like I was playing as iron man with a gun, with the flying, hovering, shoulder mounted rockets, etc. The world felt more open and alive than destiny, even though most parts were closed off for the demo. This one has potential if they give you enough customisation and gameplay variety. But then again EA has a way of f'ing things up, i.e. Battlefront 2.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Best Story

Shokwave2

No other game hit me emotionally like RDR2. It was a sad story of failure, one which you couldn't prevent, but then ended with a story of redemption and even more sadness as the credits rolled, knowing what the future held for certain characters. GOW had a cool story, but to me had no ups and downs as RDR2 had. It had its moments but it never hit me emotionally. I just felt it was a story of a disappointed father and revenge. As others have also said, GOW is a tad overrated to me.
