Re: Crimson Desert (PS5) - A Generational Open World Buried in Early Access Cruft

@MrPeanutbutterz well don't play in performance mode. And if you're that serious a gamer, upgrade to Pro and a HDR 4k TV. I know my limits of the base PS5 and I except it.

As for identical hardware running the the same game, ever had an appliance start to malfunction, turn off, overheat, and not work properly? Yeah that happens to consoles too. So saying every console is identical is rubbish.

The problem is too many "gamers" rely and trust "gaming" websites, YouTubers, and "influencers" and can't make a decision with their own brain. If the game interests you and looks fun, buy the damn thing. Or you could listen to a 20 year old guy who put in 6 hours of gameplay before reviewing and if he says it's crap because he just sucks at the game and is uncoordinated.

Hang on! 60fps except for that one dip? I'll pick it up in a few years when's it's on sale and if it's ever patched. I'll add to my wishlist of a hundred other games. Until then I'll go back to playing the same game I've been playing for years. And then wonder why gaming studios getting rid of staff or shutting down.

I'm going back to play CD on my base PS5 in balanced mode. Because I can and it's fun.

@themightyant well if digital foundry says so, then it must apply to every PS5 and TV in the world. The Gods have spoken 🙄. Instead of looking at graphs, tables and stats, how about people play the game and experience it with their own eyes. I'm playing in balanced mode and my gameplay is pretty smooth and highly playable. Nothing to whinge about. Or maybe I could whinge it's not 120fps, 240Hz and unlimited ray tracing?

It's funny how other open world games like RDR2 and AC Shadows can get away with rough visuals and performance. Pearl Abyss make a damn good game, start patching in days, and listen to feedback.

A lot of gamers these days focus on numbers in instead of enjoyment. How many FPS? How many hours? I'm not paying full price! They're not real gamers. Just a bunch of online fakes.

@kyleforrester87 I'm playing on a base PS5 and it looks pretty good for me. My settings are balanced, HDR, V-sync on, particle effects and blur halved, and I haven't any graphical glitches, slow down or ugliness.its a pretty gorgeous game.

Also: "We've tested the game on both consoles and the difference is largely night and day. On base PS5, at the time of writing, you've got two options."

I have 3 options on my base PS5: performance, balanced, and quality. Not sure why you only have 2 options.

Re: Crimson Desert (PS5) - A Generational Open World Buried in Early Access Cruft

I'm playing on a base PS5 and since the updates I get no crashes, performance is fine and the game is fun. I think people need to change their settings.

Difficulty spikes? Yeah it's called use your head. This game doesn't hold your hand unlike 99% of the games out there. This is a breath of fresh air. Puzzles galore, tough combat at times. I'm loving it.

It's not perfect, its main problem is trying to fit a heap of game mechanics into one single game. But you don't have to use them. I can play how I like. Once you get through the longish tutorial (first few chapters) the game opens up so much that it kept me amazed. And I haven't spotted any forced wokeness yet.

Re: Dev Pledges to Make Crimson Desert 'Even More Enjoyable' as It Sells Over 3 Million Copies in First Week

Shokwave2

I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. The world is impressively huge and I don't mind the slow paced style of having to mine ore, chop trees, etc. For some unknown reason it feels less tedious than other games that force yo to do this and more like an true adventure game.

Yes the story is boring/crap, but I find myself reading all the posters/books/letters when I find them. The world itself is more interesting than the playable characters and their story.

It's far from perfect, but the last game that made me want to just wander the map by foot just so I don't miss anything was RDR2 or BOTW. I'm having more fun with this game and getting more play time, than some big name games.

Re: 'The Jumping, Movement, and Attacks Are Way More Responsive': Crimson Desert PS5 Patches Fix Crashes and Controls

Shokwave2

"But some would argue the game should not have released in this state at all"

Pretty much every second game gets released in an unfinished, unpolished state these days. The only reason this and other games stand out is because of the size and hype.

It was frustrating trying to play this game before the patches. Constant crashes, missing prompts, buggy missions. If the game world wasn't so addictive and explorable I would've given up for a few weeks. But these patches totally saved the game IMO.

As others have said, this game is like BOTW or DS2, giving you tools and letting you go off and do things your own way most of the time. The first few hours can drag on, learning the basics and maybe too many different game mechanics, but it's well worth it when you gallop through a forest, climb a mountain, then come across a massive castle town with surrounding farmlands, outposts and circus tents.

Re: Hands On: Crimson Desert Runs Well Enough on PS5 Pro, But What About That Intro?

Shokwave2

@RobN I agree it is sad that we have to endure crashes, patches, remakes, etc. The last time games were sold fully completed and tested was back in the PS1 and N64 days. I guess games were offline then so there was no way to fix them if they weren't thoroughly tested in house.

At least this game isn't as bad as Cyberpunk77 or even Assassin's Creed Shadows were only launch. Actually at least CP77 has redeemed itself. AC Shadows is still a steaming pile of mess IMO.

Re: Hands On: Crimson Desert Runs Well Enough on PS5 Pro, But What About That Intro?

Shokwave2

Websites finding excuses to say something negative about a generally good game is getting tiring, and it's only been out for 24 hours. Yeah it's not perfect, but still better than a lot of games out there. As others have said, it's essentially a MMO.single player game, as you can tell from the menu settings, missions, checklists, challenges and even controls. I reckon this started out as another MMO but changed during development. As for the random missions, this is normal for an Asian game.

I'm playing on base PS5 and it plays fine for me. I've had two crashes, but that's to be expected for a massive game on day one. No progress was lost. The graphics are fine, performance mode can be ugly but balanced looks good IMO. A few patches and maybe some DLC and this will be a great game.

Re: Hands On: Marathon Is Dense, Demanding, and Drop Dead Gorgeous

Shokwave2

Being a longtime Destiny fan (except for their latest lot of DLC garbage), I have to agree the gunplay feels great. I've only gotten to play a quick 30 mins but it has surprised me. I really like the art style and the gunplay is punchy. Hopefully they fill the rest of the game with interesting and various things to do. Extraction shooters tend to get stale after a few hours.

Re: Star Wars: Galactic Racer Seems Like an Exciting Mix of Burnout, MotorStorm, and WipEout

Shokwave2

So this is just another track racing game with a SW skin. The boost system is nothing new, walking around your ride is normal these days, and different vehicle types is to be expected.

I'm tired of developers trying to talk up there game like it's revolutionary. They need to impress us with a good variety of tracks, some great looking visuals and most importantly great handling. Make it memorable, not generic.

Re: Sorry Haters, But Marathon Is Looking Real Good Right Now

Shokwave2

Personally I like the art style. But I'm tired of online extraction shooters. If it had a Destiny style mission/open area/pve gameplay, I'd be very interested.

I loved Destiny 2, then hated it, then loved it again, the hated it again. They just couldn't get the it right in the end. I'll wait for a sale.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Shokwave2

Could never get in to turn based combat games. I've tried so many times. But I still tried the demo as everyone was raving about it. I ended up skipping some of the cutscenes because I'm not into that type of story telling it writing. I love the wacky and cringey Japanese style writing but this was too 'French' for me.

Personally I put this game into the same category as the The Last of Us games. They're raved about but I find them boring. To me the characters are whingey and too much drawn out dialogue. I play games to escape, have fun, and be entertained. That's just not my style of gameplay unfortunately.

My GOTY was probably Death Stranding 2, follows closely by Donkey Kong Bananaza. DS2 is the usual Japanese sci-fi weirdness I love, and smashing and breaking absolutely everything in DKB was something I never knew I needed in a game.

Re: State of Play Set for Wednesday, 20 Minutes of Borderlands 4 Gameplay

Shokwave2

You either love or hate Borderlands. Just like any other game franchise it has its good and not so good games. Personally I love the games overall. I find the whole looting and shooting cycle enjoyable.

Yeah BL1 started it all, BL2 made everything better and is the peak of the franchise, BLTPS was more of the same but not ut as good, TTW changed the scenery but felt more like DLC, and BL3 was ok with great gunplay and controls but cringe IMO.

I'll be buying BL4. I know it will be the same core gameplay as all the others in the series but if it was any different I wouldn't buy it, or just go play another game.

Funny how this franchise seems to get smashed with negativity all the time, but if that was said about other franchises, comments would be edited or removed. If you don't like the game, no need to bash it. Just go play something else.

Re: PS5, PC FPS Concord's Poor Player Numbers Have Predictably Gone Viral

Shokwave2

@Artois2 I've played the game too and know what I saw. Unless they've gone into damage control and patched the game.

I'm guessing you like playing crap games. Look at the reviews (besides this sites "keep every one happy equality" review), look at the comments, look at the player numbers, look at the stats. It's a game no one asked for and it will soon be on sale and forgotten about.

I know plenty of words, but some of them would get my comments removed (again), or my account banned if said them to you, because I don't agree with the admins views or I'm not going along with the crowd and have my own thoughts on gaming.

Thank God for X (Twitter) and even Reddit, where people can comment and speak freely without offending the soft crowd.

Re: PS5, PC FPS Concord's Poor Player Numbers Have Predictably Gone Viral

Shokwave2

@RoomWithaMoose it's not a bad saying, it's common truth these days unfortunately.

I'm guessing you didn't, or refused, to see the Lead Character Designer's comments regarding white people privileges/supremacy, bad/ugly character designs, and other issues in the game that are constantly shoved down our throats by most media these days.

Look I don't care what sex/gender/animal the main characters in the game are, as long as the game itself is enjoyable and isn't shoving it's wokeness in my face. I play games to relax and escape the crap that is out there in the real world. As soon as it enters the game I trying to play, then that game is deleted/returned/binned.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Rise of the Ronin?

Shokwave2

Once you get past the the opening hours and expand your world and travel options the game becomes more enjoyable. The combat is fun and I don't mind the ticking off the open world checklist. Missions can be repetitive but show me an open world game which isn't just as repetitive.

It seems most reviewers didn't get too far into the game or even finish the game even. No mention of the later towns, their well designed layouts, or how nice sunlight breaking through trees at a forest shrine can look.

An update or two could clean up the visuals and fix a few shortcomings. But as a YouTube reviewer said, this game is more focused on a realistic setting and visuals, compared to the Hollywood/glamourised style visuals of Ghost of Tsushima. Real life Japan looks more like RotR than GoT.

I'd give this a 8.5.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Rise of the Ronin?

Shokwave2

I'm loving the game. I don't mind a Ubisoft type checklist game. I'm too old and time restricted to worry about aimlessly looking for collectibles or solving complex puzzles. Plus give me an open world feudal Japan game any day and I'll play it Fr weeks on end.

Re: Rise of the Ronin (PS5) - A Safe, Outdated Open World Game

Shokwave2

I'm a sucker for any game set in Japan, especially feudal related. The Nioh games, and any souls-like game, are too hard for me, as I be softened in my old age and restricted for time. So I usually play games on the easiest settings so I can enjoy them instead of constantly buying new controllers.

Yes Ghost of Tsushima looks and plays better as a samurai game. Yes it follows the same open world formula of clearing areas of bad guys and unlocking areas as Ubisoft games. Yes it looks like a last gen game. But personally I'm loving this game.
