Ubisoft has indicated to the media that For Honor review code will not be unlocked until the game's publicly released on 14th February. The reason for this, according to the publisher, is because of the hack-'n'-slasher's open beta, which will tie up the title's servers from 9th February through until 12th February.
The company has said that it will allow press to pre-load the game, but no one in the industry will be able to begin playing until launch day. This means that you shouldn't expect our review until at least a week after release, so if you're still on the fence regarding this title, then you may want to stay there.

Weren't there rumours about the matchmaking being....err....completely broken?
I mean it's a Ubisoft game so....it wont be amazing. Hell even FC4 has flying objects, colliders for objects in the wrong places, some even unreachable (Testing doesn't seem to exist!), dodgy mechanics and broken animations.
I feel like this is going to bomb hard. Withholding review copies didn't serve Bethesda well with Dishonered 2. Hope this practice goes away soon.
Can't help but compare this to a certain samurai game. On one hand you have NIOH that's receiving glowing reviews a week before release & on the other you have For Honor- which is withholding review copies till after launch.

252 votes. For Honor didn't receive a single vote. Makes me think it's gona bomb.
Sneaky way of holding back reviews by having an online demo right before release. Watch out... they're learning!
Well at least they're doing an open beta. That way you can see how the game plays, then it's just up to you whether or not you NEED to be there Day1, or if you have any trust in Ubisoft's servers. I wouldn't, especially considering R6 Siege still has issues.
I'm guessing the "beta" will be of a stable and enjoyable bit of the game to encourage people to buy it without reviews, but the full game will be medocre at best.
I tried the beta. Played one round of 4v4. My team had me and another level 1 player with 2 bots. The other side had 2 lvl 16s and some other higher levels. Levels mean they've unlocked some extra skills and upgraded gear. The game played okay...it reminded me of Smite.
Man, what is up with all those negative mindsets? You can totally check the game yourself during the open beta. So it isnt a trick to fool people into buying the game on launch without being able to make an informed decision. I wonder why so many people have become so wary and negative about new games? For honor actually designs a very new and unique gameplay mechanik. I have played 2 closed betas and enjoyed both immensely. Finally something fresh and new besides all the shooters. Try finding a game you like, and put your energy into that game. Stop putting so much energy in games you don't like. #enjoygaming#
Considering the main focus is pvp, it shouldn't matter that this is online only. Yes it sucks that the campain is online only, but when you hear its not that long, and the game is too much fun in any of its modes played so far I don't see a problem with this game.
And ps+ goes down every now and again. Big whoopdedo. If you don't have anything else you can do during that time it sucks to be you. All the cod players aren't all of a sudden going to switch to the campaign when ps+ goes down. They come to the net and cry about it. I'll just switch to another game or read a book, or play with my dog, or visit my friends.
Oh no i can't play a game for a few hours of my day, what ever will I do..... SMH..

Hiding something, Ubisoft ? Crapy game perhaps ?
@TrueAssassin86x Psn is only down once every couple of weeks. I think I'll manage not playing for a few hours now and then. Your arguments are hollow and illogical. As I said before, find a game you do like and put your energy in that game. I have already played the beta for about 20 hours, and I can say it looks very good. Plays well, and the combat system is well thought out. Cant wait to play the full game, I'm pretty sure this is gonna be a hit online and it will become another succesfull franchise.
I'm interested in this but I'll wait for review.
Will take a special game (Uncharted 4) for me to buy without reading a review
I'm not preordering games anymore (unless it can be cancelled) because I've been burned with street fighter 5 (digital) and no man sky special edition ("ok" games but there's no way I'm buying the special edition if I know the game is just "okay").
Only few games that can make me preordered without worry, naughty dog games, and games thats already out and receives good reviews in japan like persona 5 and yakuza 0 & 6.
@Fight_Teza_Fight Yup, customer aren't fool, maybe withholding review copies for doom work because its legacy, but I don't think it will work for a new ip, or B games (compared to doom) like dishonored. If its working and the game is bad, you can bet it's the sequel that will suffer bad sales.
@Kingclinhyde Its called smart with money, just wait a couple of days for a review and you'll save $60 if the game isn't good. Why trust a company that doesn't trust its game for a early review? Also there's no way I'm buying single player game that have always online requiement, I can play uncharted 4 single player as long as I have ps4, I can't play for honor single player if the server is being shutdown sometimes in the future.

But hey - acting like that usually proves that a game is not worth to be bought at all! No Review at Launch? No Buy at Launch
Fair game ^^
I'll be amazed if this game doesn't bomb.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was Division. The issue that caused people to be locked out was something known to Ubisoft, but they choose to keep quiet. I had myself locked out. That was it for me.
So no more pre-order or buying Ubisoft for me unless the meta scores say its worth it. And even then I will wait some to see if there are any issues (knowing ubisoft, they WILL have issues).
ps - to everyone else that will be getting the game, I hope it goes well for you guys.
Haha you guys crack me up. "No review? No buy!". Sure I enjoy reviews of games I havent played myself. But for honor lets you play for free in the open beta. Why not try it, to see if you like it? If you can't trust your own judgement, who are you going to trust?
And people complaining about always online? The singleplayer will probably take about 6-8 hours to finish. Do you think you can manage a connection for that period?
Concerning to say the least...
I'll say this. I had a TON of fun in the closed beta, but the matchmaking was definitely rough. Lots of disconnects and also it was just hard to find a game in general.
@JoeBlogs I think gamers are much more informed now than they have ever been. Hype sells games. Strong word of mouth sells games and reviews are one way of achieving that. Gaming personalities/news outlets sell games---> No Man's Sky. I just don't think there is a lot of hype surrounding For Honor. I think NIOH has all the market awareness right now.
I think it's interesting how some publishers are changing their preview approach. Instead of sending out review copies we now have sponsored streams on twitch in a controlled environment. I think that's them recognizing the change in gamers behaviors- speak right to the gamer.
As for Titanfall 2. CoD and Battlefield happened. It had no market awareness. Little to no hype surrounding it. It's unfortunate, but I'd put that one down as an anomaly.
and they want people to pre-order...
@TrueAssassin86x Im guessing you dont ever play ANY mmos then?
Or any competetive multiplayer game that has no true single player component?
I agree with him, if you are interested then youve already researched it and are probably going to buy it.
If you arent then its the opposite.
If "online only" is such a big deal for anyone then the simple solution is dont buy it.
Whether a game is enjoyable on the whole is solely down to the player, no review on earth will change that.
And going back to the online only, is it not directly linked to the multiplayer aspect?
So much like any MMO ever made ever, its "single player" isnt truly single player, as its within the online universe.
Comparing it to a game in which the overarching mechanics are different isnt a good example.
@Kingclinhyde I played the alpha, beta and last chance demo of Nioh. Still wanted to see the reviews to ensure that the quality is consistant throughout the game. Ubisoft "could" choose to show only the most polished portion of the game in the beta, therefore giving the consumer a skewed outlook on the game. I understand that everyone likes different things, however this is a different issue. Reviews before launch are consumer friendly and in our best interest. Ubisoft doesn't trust their products to review well, so put reviews on lockdown. Don't cheerlead this awful practise.
@Shellcore Im gonna enjoy the poo out of this game. You and all naysayers can stay grumpy forever.

@Kingclinhyde
Just wondering - how is being cautious equates to 'stay grumpy forever'?
@testyardallen It doesnt, still some people that commented here are definetly grumpy. I just wanted to let you guys know, what I thought about the game after playing it in the beta for 20 hours. It saddens me to see people bashing a good game.
