Resident Evil 2 Director Says Requiem Needs a 'Non-Scary' Mode for Fraidy Cats Like Him 1

Hideki Kamiya, a legendary game designer and director, has called for an option in Resident Evil Requiem to minimise the scares.

Known for games such as Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Viewtiful Joe — as well as the original Resident Evil 2 — Kamiya and his staff at Clovers have been checking out Capcom's latest horror action title.

You can hear what he thinks in this clip:

"I've been saying for forever, they should make a 'non-scary' mode," Kamiya comments as a colleague plays the game.

"Look, I just want to enjoy the puzzles. The puzzles and the combat," he continues. "I don't need the scary stuff."

We reckon it's a fair point. Obviously, Resident Evil Requiem is a horror game, so it's to be expected that it's scary to some extent.

However, including an optional way to play that avoids the game's most intense spooks would serve to make it that little bit more accessible.

It puts us in mind of SOMA, which was eventually updated to remove enemies from the game, allowing you to absorb the atmosphere and the story without any threats.

Similarly, Crow Country — a horror title heavily inspired by early Resi games — includes a non-combat option for those who just want to soak in the story and solve the world's puzzles.

That's not quite the same as what Kamiya is asking for, but it sounds feasible to us.
