Re: PS5's God of War Laufey Dominated Summer Game Fest

Oh good, we can now calculate "performance, press coverage and community engagement" into an easy to consume graphic and see who factually won E3. I was worried I would have to actually think for myself there for a minute or, God forbid, enjoy the trailers on their own merits.

Re: Mina the Hollower Well on Its Way to Saving Dev, Sells Half a Million Copies

I'm having a fantastic time with it so far. It's worth repeating here that the difficulty PushSquare's review complained about is really only present right at the beginning of the game so I urge people to stick with it at least until they have beaten the first dungeon. After that you begin to power up so quickly that the game really levels out and becomes much more enjoyable and more about exploration and puzzle solving than super hard battling.

.....until the end level at least (still battling my way through that).

@LiamCroft you are my favourite reviewer here - just wondering what your opinion on Mina is?

Re: Round Up: What Was Announced in Sony's State of Play Livestream for June 2026?

Ooccoo_Jr

A decent show. Too long and that decision to show 20 minutes of God of War was bizarre but there was a lot to like overall. I can understand the criticism that the Sony formula (excessive playable cutscenes disguised as gameplay) is becoming a bit played out at this point but I can't blame them for playing it safe. More remakes and mostly third party stuff means when you sit back you realise the presentation wasn't quite as exciting as it first appeared but kudos to Sony for most of the games having release dates and not too far away at that.

Re: Mina the Hollower (PS5) - Masterpiece for Many, But Not for Me

@MrPeanutbutterz The silly thing is that there are actually decisive elements of the game that are well worth discussing. The focus on trophies baffles me. If the reviewer gave an 8/10 and said he felt a little more signposting would be better and that the game was hard enough without the soulslike elements then I don't think anyone would have argued. It is only the trophy entitlement nonsense that he misjudged (imo). I'm loving the game, but it won't be for everyone - but trophies should not be the reason why not

Re: Mina the Hollower (PS5) - Masterpiece for Many, But Not for Me

@themightyant They have a huge suite of difficulty / accessibility options. If your definition of being punished is not being awarded a trophy for an achievement that you did not actually achieve then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should play on Switch so you can enjoy it without worrying about pointless trophy pop ups.

Re: Mina the Hollower (PS5) - Masterpiece for Many, But Not for Me

Ooccoo_Jr

@themightyant Yes I know, I was suggesting that as a compromise that a couple of trophies are available to all, but the harder ones are locked out if you use modifiers. That would seem completely fair to me (and I speak as someone who has no hope in hell of getting the platinum without cheating).

Regardless I think this is a dumb argument to be having anyway. I am loving the game and trophies are a complete non issue for me. I do accept criticisms about the lack of map and loss of bones on death though. What I would say is that the early stages have proved the hardest as it takes a while to build up the trinkets and extra health etc. Once that happens things start to level out a bit and it becomes more enjoyable and less of a grind.

@themightyant You actually do have to finish marathons in a set time. It differs from race to race depending on road closures. Besides that medal is for participation, you get better prizes for actually winning. I would have no issue if your still got a basic bronze trophy for finishing the game using whatever modifiers you like, but the higher difficulty trophies should absolutely be locked away from those using modifiers, otherwise they become completely pointless.

Then again I grew up in age where they didn't give every child in sports day a medal just for turning up.

Re: Mini Review: PowerWash Simulator 2 (PS5) - A Bigger, Better, Squeaky Clean Sequel

Ooccoo_Jr

@themightyant To be fair I don't know how you are meant to review a game like Powerwash Simulator. I've put almost 100 hours into the first one but is it actually a 'good' game? Is it really a game at all? It's satisfying and addictive but would I actually recommend it to most gamers? Probably not. So 7/10 sounds right to me. I love it, but I can't really justify it.

Re: Almost 5,000 PS5, PS4 Games Discounted in Player's Choice Sale

Ooccoo_Jr

It's not 5,000 games. GTA online currency is not a game. Paw Patrol costume packs are not a game. If you apply the filter to just show you full games it is under 3,000 and even that includes multiple versions of the same title.

It doesn't really matter of course, it just really annoys me when this is misreported every single month and I needed to get it off my chest.

Thank you.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong (PS5) - A Silky Smooth Sequel Well Worth the Wait

Ooccoo_Jr

@themightyant I too became dangerously adept at speedrunning that damn approach to the Last Judge. Was so glad when I finally beat him so that I never have to do it again. Whilst I do wish the benches were nearer the bosses I think that would risk ruining the immersion a bit by signposting exactly when they are about to appear, taking away the organic feeling of the world. It's annoying, but I can just about live with it.

The Citadel however can absolutely go and do one.

Re: 'We Won't Make You Do the Same Thing Over and Over': Ghost of Yotei PS5 Will Keep You Guessing

Ooccoo_Jr

This is where trophies become detrimental to some games. Open World titles like these shouldn't be about ticking off every single event/collectible. They are designed so that you find enough of them to power up and complete the game, but not so many that it becomes tedious. I loved GoT, but then I didn't spend my time hoovering up absolutely everything within it.

I have found all 1,900 Koroks in BotW and TotK though so am clearly a massive hypocrite.

Re: Mini Review: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5) - Decent Souls-Like Suffers Technically

Ooccoo_Jr

As usual people are completely missing the point of reviews. You should choose which ones to listen to basis reviewers that you know from past experience tend to align with your own views. Personally I like @LiamCroft as he doesn't tend to give games free passes like some others (particularly on fansites) tend to. Also if you are only looking at the score and not actually reading the thing then you don't get the right to criticise.

In this case I would have thought the conclusion you should draw is pretty obvious. If you love Soulslikes and can't get enough (a bit like me with Metroidvanias, of which there are also far too many) then you should give this a go, you will probably enjoy it. If not then you are best off giving it a pass as there isn't anything special to make it worth your time. Unfortunately this take is probably too nuanced for most, who would prefer instead to respond "6/10 means bad, grumble grumble".
