'We Won't Make You Do the Same Thing Over and Over': Ghost of Yotei PS5 Will Keep You Guessing 1

If there was one major issue with Ghost of Tsushima, it’s that it lacked the variety to keep its open world interesting.

While we did initially have fun following foxes and writing haikus, the game unquestionably ran out of steam as we pursued its Platinum, and honestly ended up grating at times.

Creative director Nate Fox is well aware of this, and he says the team at Sucker Punch has responded to the feedback from fans.

On the subject of Ghost of Yotei, he told Automaton:

“Ghost of Yotei improves [the minigame] segments in a sense that we won’t be making players go through the same thing all over again whenever their curiosity leads them to encountering new secrets during exploration. We’ve prepared different kinds of outcomes that could go beyond the player’s expectations. We believe that the beauty of open-world games is in the exploration, so we were determined to offer players a diverse experience.”

A big theme of the sequel, as detailed in its recent State of Play, is the idea that you can pursue the things that interest you. In order for that to function, though, there will need to be interesting and dynamic outcomes.

While it hasn’t shown a huge amount of that, we do have confidence in Sucker Punch when it comes to its second games. Both Sly 2: Band of Thieves and inFAMOUS 2 massively expanded on their predecessors, and we’re expecting a similar step forward here from Ghost of Yotei.
