PlayStation fans are calling on Sony to make a Diogo Jota PSN avatar available once again so they can commemorate the Liverpool footballer following his and his brother's tragic deaths earlier this week. The avatar was available for free in the Days of Play 2024 campaign, but it was only a limited release and is no longer live on the PS Store.
A thread on Reddit is asking for the PSN avatar to return for those who didn't redeem the digital bundle. If you did, then you can still use it by changing your avatar in the profile settings.
"It’s been my avatar since I redeemed it, and now I’ll never change it unless they remove it. Rest in Peace, Diogo," said Reddit user Meselyn. Meanwhile, Sneakiest said: "RIP. Like another comment said, it would be nice if they gave the avatar away again. Maybe different variants since he had multiple celebrations such as holding a video game controller after scoring."
Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota and his brother, Penafiel forward André Silva, both tragically died earlier this week in a car crash. Memorials for Diogo Jota have been set up around Liverpool's ground, Anfield, as well as at Molineux, the home of his former club, Wolverhampton Wanderers. The funeral for the two brothers takes place on Saturday morning.

Man Utd fan here, was absolutely devastated to hear the news of his passing. Even though a Liverpool player I couldn't help but enjoy watching him play. No histrionics, just one of those rare guys who always gave his all and seemed to play for the sheer joy of it. Heartbreaking to hear he leaves three kids behind.
Seems like now would be the best time to give it away? Update it to memorialize him. 🙏🏾

This hits so hard as a portuguese...he played for my rival club in Portugal but I still loved him as a player, you just could tell he was a great person. Seeing everyone talking so good about him, having no haters online...it just hurts too much. Seeing his marriage pics with the love of his life and the 3 kids they had...it broke me, I have never felt so down on my birthday as I am feeling today. This sucks.
I wish his wife the best, this must be so so hard..

I was only thinking about this last night, I downloaded it when it was first available and as a big Liverpool fan it's still my Avatar to this day.

It’s just horrible, him and his brother both gone. I get why FIFA and PES remove players after they pass but with him being such a huge fan of FIFA and a hell of a good player, it would be nice for them to commemorate his legacy rather than removing him entirely.
I’m not a sports guy but I think this would be a nice thing to do, brining the avatar back. A nice way to show appreciation in the face of the sad news.
Sony should make a new Avatar commemorating both of them.
You don't get to be a cult favourite for nothing. He had that tenacious quality that made him liked by all fans, no matter who they support. But putting football aside, it's just plain sad news. Hopefully Sony will answer the call on this one
I had this as my avatar for most of last season, but didn't realise it was Jota. Will be changing back as a mark of respect. RIP Diogo.

Avatars on PS5 have been a poorly curated feature this generation. The menu that shows all the avatars is the best yet, but we are not getting the amount of avatars we should. They're really important in my view, and Death Stranding 2 and now this are both recent examples of why they should be better purchasable, whether free or paid.
I wasn't familiar with Diego at all since I have zero interest in sports, but what happened to him is terrible. Rest in peace.
God bless both Diogo and his brother they crashed n’ burned. Meanwhile new family has to deal with on the plus side he himself goes out as much a champion as he possibly could have expected; RIP

Have had this avatar since day one , my wife and boys idolised him and all have his name on their shirts , we are going to go to Anfield this morning to pay respects.
