PS5's God of War Laufey Dominated Summer Game Fest 1

According to analytics firm Level Up, spin-off God of War Laufey dominated Summer Game Fest by some margin.

Just for clarity, in this context ‘Summer Game Fest’ is being used as a catch-all for all of last week’s showcases, including the State of Play and Nintendo Direct.

The research firm collates trailer views, streaming performance, press coverage, and community sentiment to create a kind of engagement index, which the Santa Monica Studio title topped by quite some margin during the livestreams.

Sony’s State of Play was obviously the first event of the week, so had a lot more time to accumulate engagement – although it has fared particularly well, attracting more than 7.2 million views on PlayStation’s YouTube channel alone.

According to the firm, Switch 2’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake landed in second, with Resident Evil Veronica and Marvel’s Wolverine just behind. Gears of War: E-Day also netted lots of engagement, although I do wonder how much the console exclusivity conversation is contributing to that.

One surprise for me here is Until Dawn 2, which landed in 10th place on the index – an impressive result for a game which I feel has been going under the radar a little bit.

Also of note: both Persona 6 and Kingdom Hearts 4 trended ahead of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which was given the big show closer spot during Geoff Keighley’s showcase.

To wrap things up, Spyro: A Realm Beyond rounded out the list in ninth, proving there’s still plenty of pent-up enthusiasm for a new adventure starring the purple dragon.

All in all, the index does look largely reflective of what I’d expect coming out of Summer Game Fest, and with three Sony games on the list, it looks like it was a good week for PS5 overall. In fact, eight of the ten games on this list will all launch day one on the PS5.
