A screenshot of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ character select screen has left fans trying to deduce the size of the PS5 and PC release’s roster.
After announcing the four-on-four brawler will be playable at Evo next month, Sony released a new screenshot showing the game’s menus. At the moment, only six superheroes can be selected, as we’re still waiting for the platform holder to reveal more.
However, fans used the UI to predict the final size of the release’s roster, deducing that there’s space for up to 35 characters on the screen:
While it all lines up, there are a few caveats worth considering.
One space will likely be used for a choosing a random character, so that lowers the maximum total to 34. And the developer will almost certainly want to save room for DLC additions, so we wouldn’t expect the whole screen to be filled.
The decision to make this game a four-on-four brawler does increase the need for a large playable roster, though.
The reality is that if you’ve got a small roster in a release like this, you’re going to keep seeing the same characters over and over in a standard arcade run, which isn’t fun. It’s an issue we had with the recent Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact.
We should start to get regular new character reveals beginning at Evo, though, so let’s see who makes the grade. Fantastic Four seems like a lock considering the four-on-four format, but who else would you like to see?
