Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Really in Competition with TikTok?

Nem

Look, this is all a matter of perspective. How you define your market determines your competitors. But, in reality, just saying so doesn't make it so.
Microsoft did not succeed on the games market, so they are redefining their market as the market of simply every entertainment people consume. In that market Xbox is competing with the likes of Tik tok, youtube, netflix, disney+, etc. and honestly even every social network.
It's quite frankly, *****.
The consumer that watches tiktok is not necessarely the consumer that consumes games media. So, no Xbox is not directly competing with them, nor is Playstation. Though one can make the case that the markets are competing with each other.
Xbox is just trying to sell themselves as a bigger player, but in that market, they are even smaller than they are on the games market. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Doing So Badly That's It's Been Outsold by MH Rise, Devil May Cry 5

Nem

The game has smudgy textures on all versions and it performs badly.
That is the main issue.

It's deserved that sales dropped. The game did not deserve the 10m sales it got at the start that it got from goodwill alone.
I have doubts the December patch will fix it, but i remain hopeful. I will otherwise pass on the expansion. I feel burned by this one launching in the state it did for a game that sells so much and has no reason to release like this.

As it stands, Rise sunbreak is the best MH game in my opinion. It is so much fun and it runs like a dream. It's deserved that it's outselling Wilds. It's a better experience.

Re: Former Battlefield Boss Says Video Games 'Can't Be Built by an Al'

I completely agree. AI is not capable of a single independent thought. It's just a mesh of existing data.
AI games will be generic slop. They will be samey and bad cause an AI can't and will never be able to tell what "feel" is. We cannot mathematically put into a machine feelings we feel. We cannot even fully share it abstractly with one another. The machine will only be able to copy what already exists to try and emulate it and if it tries to deviate it can end hilariously wrong. The plagiarism AI. It's all it is.

All AI can do is repetitive and menial tasks that don't require creativity or sense. A "tool", yes. A game creator? Absolutely not.

Re: New EA Partnership Will 'Reimagine How Games Are Made' with AI

Nem

@SterlingEyes You said "create". A new vaccine would be a new discovery. I don't think AI can do that. You are confusing it with just computational power. A new vaccine is not a mesh of existing vaccines. There are chemical rules and logic to it's creation, plus interactions we have not yet discovered. Maybe it was just a poor example.
But, my point here being that AI does not have a single original thought. It's plagiarism - the software and it has a lot of errors, which makes it's use in medicine incredibly risky. In an image it's something like confusing a hat for a beard. In medicine that would mean people would die. AI needs a lot of curation and i think it is incredibly overhyped.

Re: This Is Why Xbox Is Bringing All of Its Games to PS5 Now

Nem

I don't think comsolidation has anything to do with it. It's just microsft being greedy.
Xbox put itself on the crosshairs of microsoft investors for doing such a high profile purchase. Now, they want to see returns on that investment yesterday.

They should've done the 3rd party thing sooner and not have bought activision.
They'd be doing much better.

Re: Preview: Marvel Tokon's Biggest Battle Isn't in the Arena

Nem

@PuppetMaster I don't agree, but that's ok. I think when you are talking about these cancel timers you are still talking about tiny factions of a second. a 4/60 frames in one second it's 1/15th of a second to get right. That is just too tight for most players. The stuff should be being at least 20- 30 frames (depending on the move ofc). Even that is already tight for the average player.

I mean, it's ok to keep piling up mechanics if you think it makes it better, but you will be losing the average gamers. So, let's hope the hardcore fanbase is enough to keep these games going.

Re: Preview: Marvel Tokon's Biggest Battle Isn't in the Arena

The problem with fighting games is that they throw a million mechanics your way while giving you a list of moves and combos to memorise and get the muscle memory to pull them off.
It's a high entry bar for casual players.
I can see why sf6 easy controls got popular.

My opinion is that the execution barriers must be more generous (bigger cancel timings) and they need to dial down on the mechanics. So, there is less stuff on that mental stack.

I personally love the way tokon looks and am excited to see it. But the amount of mechanics and having to learn multiple characters at a decent level already scared me away. I just don't have the time and interest for that kind of dedication necessary to be decent at the game. I sadly like lots of games and i can't dedicate myself to just one. Gotta keep the ball rolling.

Re: 'Told You So': Ex-FTC Chair Lina Khan Is Having the Last Laugh Over Xbox's Activision Acquisition

@Weebleman Honestly, i recall this website tried to push Sony to go for the gamepass model and how good it was for Microsoft.
Some of us knew from the start what this was. A bait and switch scheme. Said it from day one and here it is. This was always the plan and i am sad that so many still believe the bs that companies say. Lies are part of communication. Companies are NOT honest. Big ones even more so.
Microsoft never brought anything positive to the market. Everything they have done has been anti-consumer and finding way to squeeze more of our money out for less. Started with online play behind a pay wall which is complete nonsense to this day and it moved to dlc, micro transactions, day one patches and season passes. Everything started on Xbox. After the seal was broken Sony and Nintendo were all too happy to follow suit.
Microsoft leaving the market would be the best thing that could happen to it (read, for the consumer, not the shareholders). But alas, they will at least be third party for quite some time more. Given how they can't manage studios, i imagine it will be a matter of time.

Re: Sony Is a 'Terrible Company' That's 'Blowing It in the Games Business', Says Michael Pachter

Nem

These people just convince themselves that this is the future and that's that. Consumer be damned! This is what we are gonna do.
AI... seriously... i am besides myself on how these people don't see how that is gonna bomb when it comes to creating artistic content.
Also... the whole stream games thing again? I thought we had established that from a connection point of view there will always be lag and it will always be a worse experience than having the hardware at home. Heck even Ps Portal that connects directly to our wifi has delay. Much less connection to a server far away. Clearly Stadia wasn't enough of a bomb to get that one through those skulls.
Oh... while at it, how about some more Live service games? Cause that is working out sooo well.

Well... let's be honest. He is a stock market broker. So, it makes sense that he spreads this nonsense to fool investors and make big bucks. Someone else will have to deal with it when it bombs.

I am not sure this is good news. I think the saudi's want FC and F1 and everything else will likely be tossed to the side.
I'm starting to fear that Mass effect 5 will not see the light of day.

On the other hand, I'd love to be wrong and for the saudi's to finance the return of big musmanaged EA IP's such as C&C. Still waiting for the remaster of tiberium sun and red alert 2. 😔

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (PS5) - Still the Benchmark for Turn-Based Tactics

Nem

I love this game. It's one of my all time favorites. But, i have played it several times already. I don't have the time to replay it right now, especially at this price. Which is fine for newcomers, but for someone like me it is not what i am willing to pay for it for the third time.
I do hope it's a success. I will get it on sale. But, most of all i hope they finally make a sequel and for that one, i'll be there day one.
