If you grew up on a healthy diet of Initial D and MF Ghost, then there’s a good chance you’ll have heard of JDM: Japanese Drift Master.
The game first launched on PC earlier this year, and is a classic arcade street racer inspired by SEGA’s iconic Initial D cabinets and the likes of Ridge Racer et al.
It’s attracted fairly decent reviews on Steam, although some people have complained about the physics, which may come down to personal preference we suppose.
Here’s how the publisher describes it:
“JDM: Japanese Drift Master combines realistic, carefully-tuned physics in a simcade experience that’s as smooth on a controller as it is with sim racing hardware. Tackle hundreds of kilometres of open-world roads and uncover story-driven events and quests along the way. Hone your drifting skills, perfect grip races, take on challenges, and feel the thrill of authentic Japanese street racing.”
As mentioned, there’s a massive open world to explore from the cockpit of a slew of licensed cars, including manufacturers like Mazda and Nissan.
The downside to all this is while the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S next month, from 21st November, we’ll have to wait until early next year for the PS5 version.
It’s possible dev Gaming Factory just doesn’t have the resources to release both editions concurrently, although it sucks to have to wait.
Hopefully the game will have received a few patches and improvements by the time it eventually does arrive on PS5.
