Gran Turismo has surpassed an extraordinary sales milestone – it’s topped 100 million units across the entire franchise to date.
To mark the occasion, creator Polyphony Digital is plotting a ‘Spec III’ update for Gran Turismo 7, which will launch for free in December.
Here’s the full extent of what it will include, according to the game’s official website:
- Two new tracks (Yas Marina Circuit, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve)
- Eight new cars
- Dunlop tires
- Data Logger
- Collector Level cap increased
- Unlimited car invitations in Brand Central
- Enhanced Weekly Challenges
- New opening movie
- New Menu Book Seasonal Menu
- New events in Circuit Experience
- New Curations in Scapes
- Improvements to online races
The studio says it’ll share a lot more information in the near future, but if you’re still playing Gran Turismo 7, then you’ve got plenty to look forward to later this year.

Here was me thinking that they were starting to slow down on updates.
Shoot, I guess I'll finally buy GT7. I'd avoided it due to disappointment about it not having a good standalone physical version, but this much additional content for free is a really good gesture.
Congrats Polyphony for getting to 100M with the series! Been there since GT1.
Always consistent with their free monthly updates. And finally some new circuits. Woohoo
Would have been really cool to celebrate 100 million sales by adding the original GT to PS Plus Premium.
Congrats to PD & Sony for GT 100M 👏🍻
The last time they announced the numbers was back in November 2022 where the series at 90 millions. So GT 7 must be sold more than 10+ million copies in the span of 3 years.
I'm not a GT or racing fans and my only experience with GT series was GT 2 and GT 3. But my brother is GT fans and his birthday is in November. I might get GT 7 for his birthday gift.
@PuppetMaster It’s a great gift. Fantastic game that keeps growing.
I'm a bit scared to see the game install size of this game. But, i intend to get it soon, so this is excellent news.
Now just need a sale on those pricy DD wheels.
I'm. Pretty stoked on this update for sure. 2 new tracks. Gilles is a wicked track. Oh man. Not even iRacing has Yas Marina. Woohoo
Big fan until GT4, wake me up when they introduce a proper career mode again. GT7 career feels like something out of a mobile game
I've probably only put about 5 hours into this since I got it like 3 years ago.
I assume you still can't just pick one of your cars and race it around any track you want? Still gotta go through all the cafe missions to unlock tracks? Are cars still expensive and the prizes still small, with in game currency being purchasable with real world money?
Such an amazing game with so much content. Looking forward to the new tracks in PSVR2.
"Collector Level cap increased" About time. I been capped out for years now. Nothing to improve even when I got every car ingame up to date. Good move Sony, but should been done long ago tbh.
Great news! I wonder what they mean with this exactly: “Unlimited car invitations in Brand Central”
I’ve been waiting for my Ferrari invite for over two years now.
@DonkeyFantasy Ah, that would be a bummer. I’m doing my rounds every day but that Ferrari invite is just impossible to get. I’m constantly getting 10,000 credits or parts.
@DonkeyFantasy Of course they would be an issue. Grinding on the game for hours on end to have the money to buy 1 car that costs a fortune is no fun at all. A whole bunch of them are priced stupidly high and I don't wanna waste my life grinding through races for hours to buy a car in a game. Unlocking all the tracks doesn't take no time at all cause you have to do all the cafe missions, which for the most part are slow and boring to progress. With how open and free games are these days this feels like some 90's crap where they have you go down a specific path to unlocking things instead of letting it be open to choice like most racers are now. And no, you can't pick any car and drive it on any track for the exact reasons I mentioned. There's no arcade mode like the classic games, cars have to be bought or won to use and tracks need to be unlocked. No I didn't want cars just thrown at me like Forza, but I also didn't want it to be a slow grind with in game prices purposefully inflated to push people into buying credits.
After i got the platinum i never touched it, but i think i'll maybe jump back again.
@DonkeyFantasy If 5 hours into a game doesn't let you pick any one of the tracks to drive your car on, that sucks. The FACT is you need to spend a good while unlocking the tracks. The FACT is a lot of the cars cost a huge amount. The FACT is most races don't pay much and it would take a long time to get enough credits just to buy one of the pricy cars. The FACT is they sell you ingame currency in what was a full priced game. Yeah, I'm right mate.
@Arkz Wouldn’t call all of those facts. For me the grinding part isn’t that dramatic. I play it 30 minutes a day (Le Mans circuit) which for me is a fun way to start up my gaming night and I get 800,000 credits for it. That’s not bad at all.
@Nem I've just checked on the app and it's sitting at 123gb.
Great to see new content incoming. A couple of new tracks will be more than welcome.
@Arkz The FACT is you've bought a game with generous amount of content and want to skip most of it. The FACT is there's always been an element of grind to the GT series and the MTX present here have no bearing on it.
The FACT is if you want a game with zero sense of progression then Forza Horizon 5 is available. That hands you hyper-cars in the first hour.
@MrPeanutbutterz I don't want to skip it, I just don't want small progress to take hours. Games should be fun not work. Forza Horizon is the opposite end, being too generous with cash, but at least there's tons of different race modes available very early on.
@Arkz And that's totally fair. At the same time I like the slow progression of GT7. Feels like I actually "earned" the new cars (for what it's worth, I think FH5 is garbage in that sense).
At the same time, I remember checking my in-game clock - at 50 hours I had over 100 cars. A new car quicker than every half hour felt generous enough.
There’s a message on the landing page saying “Free Spec III coming December”, new tracks, cars and features! GT7, the gift that keeps giving!
Well big congrats to kaz and all the staff at pd to getting to 100 million and this spec 3 update sds amazing, didn't expect it but fantastic news really looking forward to it
Canadian GP track. Heck yeah!
