Re: First Impressions: Final Fantasy XV Has Massive Potential

Kage_88

Sounds pretty cool. I haven't played the demo, so I can't be too judgmental. Still, in a way, I'm glad the final game is about a year away from release, as it will give Square Enix the time to refine things and take player feedback into account.

The game really does look gorgeous, too. It's one of the first games that really screams 'next gen' to me.

Re: Shields in Bloodborne 'Might Be Crap', Says Producer

Kage_88

Personally, I'm not interested in this game.

But with that said, I definitely want it to succeed. To me, Bloodborne is videogaming done right; one that isn't obsessed with Hollywood-aping cinematics and shallow, homogenised gameplay. The art style is wonderful, too.

Re: Final Fantasy XV's Combat Is like Nothing the Series Has Seen Before

Kage_88

Looks cool. I give full kudos to Square Enix for trying something different.

Unfortunately, the reality is that turn-based combat would look incredibly weird (and archaic) when combined with such incredibly realistic visuals. Not to mention, Final Fantasy has always been Square's big, defining franchise and (for better or worse) it needs to compare favourably to other blockbuster games - and to do that, things simply need to evolve. It almost feels dirty saying it, but Square needs to appeal to the mass-market if they want FF to stay relevant (and recoup the massive development costs). It's simply the reality of the business.

I think old fashioned JRPG fans need to get their kicks from games like Bravely Default, Dragon Quest and (yes) Final Fantasy spin-offs, like that new smartphone game. I think SE is aware that fans of these classic types of games still exist - which is why they continue making games like these (even if they are smaller scale). Oh, there's also Mistwalker, too - and many indies with titles like Citizens of Earth and Pier Solar.

Re: Talking Point: Is This the End for the PlayStation 3?

My PS3 is one of the main reasons I haven't upgraded to PS4 yet. Big games like MGSV are still coming out for the console (or I can just get them on PC), and the lack of killer exclusives has waylaid my decision to take the generational plunge (well, that and issues like the small HDD, stripped-back features and unjustifiable cost).

Re: Mad Max Hits the Road on PS4 from 1st September

Kage_88

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. The fact that Max's accent was originally American really ground my gears - I can't believe they thought they could get away with that.

Still, I won't be too harsh. It's by the Just Cause guys, so it could be great.

Re: Mortal Kombat X May Yet Have 2015's Campest Campaign

Kage_88

Mortal Kombat is as dumb as a bag of nails - fans really need to stop acting like it's some sort of complex, Shakespearean tale.

I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, and even I can accept that it has many ridiculous elements to the plot and gameplay.

Why so serious?

Re: Review: The Order: 1886 (PlayStation 4)

Kage_88

Yep, pretty much what I expected.

IMO, The Order: 1886 represents the gaming industry at its worst; a title that was first and foremost designed with presentation in mind, whilst the gameplay itself was a secondary concern. From what I've read, there is literally nothing that even remotely resembles an attempt at originality.

If there were microtransactions, day-one DLC, and a plethora of bugs - then this would be the veritable antichrist of videogaming.

Get your act together, Sony.

Re: Ready at Dawn: Some People Will Love The Order: 1886, and Others Will Hate It

Kage_88

Man, I can't remember the last time a game had garnered so much pre-release controversy.

What really gets me is that people are acting shocked and outraged about the game's perceived shortcomings - when anyone with half a brain could tell that The Order was going to be 'Steampunk Gears of War' the moment that the first gameplay video was unleashed.

Whether that is good or bad is entirely subjective.

Re: The Order: 1886 Is Just 'Touching the Surface' of the PS4's Power

Kage_88

No surprise there; believe it or not, there IS an advantage of consoles being a fixed piece of hardware. Optimisation can do miracles on a relatively 'weak' console - I was watching my brother play God of War: Ascension the other day, and I couldn't believe it was running on the PS3. I guarantee, it would be impossible to get that kind of performance on a PC with similar specs!
