Well this has got to be one of the more interesting news stories of the past week or so. Collaborating with SEGA, Game Freak - the developer behind the mainline Pokémon games - is bringing Tembo the Badass Elephant to the PlayStation 4.
The brilliantly named title is a side-scrolling action game, where you unsurprisingly play as Tembo - a particularly badass elephant. The release's first trailer paints some good impressions, with high quality visuals and fast, hectic gameplay.
It looks like it'll be absolutely bonkers, but is this something that you ever saw coming? Squash us in the comments section below.

Actually looks really nice, would have been amazing on the megadrive.
Looks like a flash game, not interested. I just want a proper Bethesda style Pokémon RPG like everybody else on the planet
Viewtiful Joe-reminding graphics, a feel of Donkey Kong Country Returns and the hope if it's doing well we'll FINALLY get a Pulseman sequel? Count me in.
@benrawr Maybe in three handheld console generations it will happen. Not before they can do those sort of games on the 3DS 4 or whatever it'll be called. A proper Pokémon will never happen on a home console as, as Game Freak and Nintendo have said a billion times, it's Pocket Monsters so they want it to always be portable.
@benrawr That would be AMAZING!!!
When GameFreak, of all companies isn't developing for Wii U (outside the close relationship with Pokemon) you know you have a problem.
@Punished_Boss_84 The Game Freak that isn't owned by Nintendo in any way and has made games for Sega, PlayStation and mobile phones/tablets?
@Punished_Boss_84 i was going to say that "before anyone says something, Nintendo DOES NOT OWN Gamefreak, they have a fair share of stocks, but its not 50%+1"...
Alien Hominid mixed with Donkey Kong?
By the way @benrawr and @rastamadeus, I think if they ever did make a proper 3D Pokémon MMORPG, it would completely destroy the segment, possibly even beating WoW's records. Too bad it will probably never happen. All the bones are there though, I wish they would.
Also, I'm not sure they're pocket monsters because the game is in your pocket, that was probably part of the double meaning, but they also fit into pocket "poke" balls, and the monsters in the game fit in the characters pockets. Just saying it's a work around so it doesn't have to be handheld.
Seems more suited to Vita. But even then, I would've hoped for more than this from Game Freak.
@Faruko @rastamadeus
Hmmm, you're aware that I'm aware of that "(outside the close relationship with Pokemon)". That implies I know GameFreak isn't owned by Nintendo. Regardless, it shows exactly how dire the situation surrounding third parties is.
Alright I'm listening. Tell me more of this elephant.
@rastamadeus what about Colluseum and its spinoffs on N64 and GameCube? 😏
I agree tho; in a few gens it'll look as different to us as Blue looks compared to AR/OS and finally have "good graphics" (at least as good as contemporary consoles now)
@Punished_Boss_84
Third party games don't typically sell well on Nintendo consoles, and haven't for generations, so it's no surprise to see thin support on that front. But as far as games like THIS go, they've got plenty.
Viewtiful Dumbo
@Punished_Boss_84 Fair enough, my post wasn't meant to sound so snarky but reading it back it does seem it (unintentionally). Game Freak have spoke before of their displeasure of the Wii U hardware though and, to be fair to them, it must be annoying only ever making Pokémon games. Just wish they'd make Pulseman 2.
@charlesnarles You used a word there which is I will say to you: spinoffs. They've always been just that as they don't want to make a home console Pokémon. As awesome as it would be, I agree with them. It's better suited to a handheld.
@Gamer83 They made a 3DS game a year or two ago called HarmoKnights. Simple but fun rhythm action game. It was only the Pokémon music (owned by Nintendo) and little nods and winks to the series that stopped it also being released on Vita.
Up until now I always figured Game Freak was a first party studio with Nintendo. Had to wiki it haha.
Bizarre that this isn't coming to Wii U (anybody see the excuse? Holy moly).
Oh well, whatever. This looks lame anyway.
Seeing this makes me think that there might be hope for a Pulseman 2.
