Re: Monster Hunter World Sales Break 20 Million

CynicalGamer

@Ralizah Yeah I am happy to wait longer for a proper next gen game.

@WallyWest Yeah and also I think Nintendo fans are easier to please graphically. For a new playstation game, they will get more harshly judged if it gets developed in the near future since it would then have to cater to last gen as well. And there are regular doses of people complaining about developing on last gen when it comes to playstation.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 398

Lost Judgement. Wrapped up all Town Go Shop and School tasks including some minigames that need better restart mechanisms truth be told. Pressing multiple buttons each time to restart made the later attempts for some minigames really annoying. Then there's some grindy Town Go City stuff like cat interactions that is also not really fun. But aside from that, the game has been awesome.

Re: Poll: Vote for the Best Assassin's Creed Game on PlayStation

CynicalGamer

Black Flag and Brotherhood for older games.
Odyssey is my favourite of the newer trilogy. I found Kassandra to be the best character in the newer trilogy. Especially the manner in which they expressed her charisma. Valhalla characters just feel bland to me. Honestly if I could get a Kassandra skin in Valhalla I would probably jump back into it.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Deathloop?

CynicalGamer

I think this game should be an 8. It just doesn't have that same stature as many games that have gotten 10s before. Like you still hear about God of War, TLOU, etc. I doubt this will be revered as much years from now, unless there is a sequel that is brilliant.

Re: Best Final Fantasy Games

CynicalGamer

Results are sensible imo. 6-10 was peak ff. First 5 games were good for their time but the five that followed were much better as far as I'm concerned. I do think X-2 gets a lot of hate when it's gameplay was quite good. I guess the story was a bit silly and maybe people hate the main cast as well. Also think 12 is quite good but the main character should have have been someone else. 14 gets very good but it just takes too long to get through the earlier (less stellar) levelling storylines.

Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sequel Announced and In Development

CynicalGamer

@TheArt Fair enough. If it was fixed though, it must have been at least months later, by when most enthusiastic gamers will have finished it at least once. Much like with Yakuza games.

Edit: I just checked again and horse ran off a cliff. Maybe I shouldn't be moving so fast but still find the frequent possibility of this scenario unrealistic. Not that it matters to me, just like it doesn't with Yakuza. My main point of tagging was the suggestion of an anime art style though as I think that would be a major detriment to the identity of Yakuza.

Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sequel Announced and In Development

CynicalGamer

@TheArt I do have to disagree with the anime style part you are suggesting. The art style of Yakuza makes the characters look like Japanese citizens in a Japanese city with a Japanese culture. Anime rarely matches the realism in a Yakuza game when it comes to portraying a Japanese city. And it is precisely this realism combined with the combination of wacky and serious themes that gives the series its identity. I also think both RDR2 and Yakuza have their share of realistic and unrealistic dynamics. Example the number of times you have horses crashing into trees is unrealistic as trained horses are smarter than that. And let's not get into the wacky stuff that can happen in GTA. I guess the point some people are making here is that regular doses of great games can be more impressive to some gamers than the occasional masterpiece.

Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sequel Announced and In Development

CynicalGamer

The great thing about this series is it makes your gaming system worth it purchasing. I would argue that having multiple great games in one generation as a whole easily matches the quality of just one high quality game like RDR2. It means you aren't waiting for a high number of years for your next fix.

Re: Rockstar Removing PS2 Versions of GTA from PS Store

CynicalGamer

This is why I keep all my older consoles. I can play any playstation game on their respective consoles when I feel like conquering games that I failed to in my childhood. If I don't like changes in remasters, I can always go down memory lane with the older consoles.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for October 2021?

CynicalGamer

@Martsmall No, what sells Playstation is its currently superior offering of games. The two companies have very different approaches to games as a service. Sony simply cannot take a financial risk on Gamepass like Microsoft can. So they rely on other strategies.

Edit: Also Sony has a more decorated history and is the default platform for most families that have older gamers.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Lost Judgment?

CynicalGamer

Honestly, in my opinion, the familiar maps is precisely why many people enjoy the game. Obviously when most games reuse map assets it looks lazy. I think the Yakuza games however really nail down resuing map assets. It's like basically living in the games.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Even More PS5 Marvel Games from Sony?

CynicalGamer

I don't see the problem here tbh. It's not like Sony will only make Marvel games going forward. The next two marvel exclusives 2-3 years from now. Healthy gap between marvel games if you ask me. And honestly if any other marvel games are of the quality of Spiderman games then it is worth it.

Re: Atlus Opens English Persona 25th Anniversary Site, Promises 'Game Information'

CynicalGamer

Just announce the games so we know what platforms they will be on. Don't even have to show gameplay. Just show the platforms they will be on. I have plenty of friends that are waiting to hear if their default console manufacturer will still get the games they always have historically. I buy all platforms but not everyone has that option. Better yet can this exclusive war over former big third party devs come to an end please, at least for a year or two.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 394

CynicalGamer

Playing Tales of Arise. Looking quite good. I dont quite like some of the respective dialogue such as when finding a certain type of bird buts that is minor to me.

Gave Deathloop a try by my friends house and while it's decent, I'm not feeling the 10/10 sentiments that many reviewers have. It just doesn't give me the same feeling as games like TLOU, GOW, RDR2, Zelda BOW or Persona 5 Royal. I personally feel it's a solid 8.5.

Re: SEGA Breaks Hearts by Announcing New RPG Is a Mobile Game

CynicalGamer

Tbh wasn't expecting Persona 6 to be announced yet. On the topic of of Sega acquisition in comments, I would hate it more for their screwing over their traditionally loyal fan base on playstation than for the effect on Sony. I would probably not even get their games anymore for my PC or Xbox. Might even "retire" from gaming as gaming will truly have lost its soul to me at that point.

Re: Techland Delays Dying Light 2 Again, Now Coming February 2022

CynicalGamer

@ruralamerican Lol mate. Most of the games are from series that did well so worth the hype. But any game can be overhyped based on previous games. Including Dying Light 2. It's a a wait and see game. Also please note that just because a game gets support for years, does not make it better by default. I always wait for reviews anyway. Maybe Dying Light will review better. Let's see. Cheers.

Re: Round Up: Lost Judgment Reviews Are Off to a Great Start, But Story Is Dividing Opinion

CynicalGamer

I feel like lowering the score because of superficial detective gameplay is a bit unnecessary. The detective part is mostly the narrative theme imo. Are we going to start punishing RPGs just because the minigames around the narrative theme are not as robust as the fighting gameplay? Just feels like double standards given how shallow minigames are in other highly rated games.
