Re: Devil May Cry 5 Takes Four Seconds to Load on PS5, 22 Seconds on PS4

BionicDodo

Ever since all the talk started of super fast SSD drives and tiny loading times, I've become incredibly aware of the loading times in my games. I've been playing DOOM Eternal on Xbone and I feel like a quick games involves as much time waiting as it does shooting. I'm willing to take the hit to storage sizes for this improvement. Once we get used to it I predict we will be unable to go back to our old disc based console loading times.

Re: PS5 Stand Solution Is Seriously Nifty

BionicDodo

My ancient little LG TV came with a stand with a captive screw built in. It allowed you to securely fasten it to the base of the TV if required but also held onto its screw if you decided to wall mount the TV and store the base. I fail to see how 15 years later creating a stand with a storage compartment to store a loose screw is an event worthy of praise!

Re: NHL 21 Brings Back an Ice Cold SEGA Genesis Classic

BionicDodo

I own NHL 20, so don't need a new full price hockey game, but I'd buy this if it were a standalone release! I do still have 94 and 96 on Mega Drive though.

I also wish they'd re-release Madden 92 (that ambulance!) with the NFL license.

@nessisonett NHL 94 was one of two Mega Drive NHL games (along with 95) where the fighting was removed at the league's request. The games up to NHLPA 93 had fighting and it came back again in NHL 96.

Re: New PS5 Features Discovered in PS Store's Source Code

BionicDodo

@johnny30 While an official solution from Sony would be nice, there is a great website for this feature called PSPrices. It allows you to build wishlists for all major consoles and then add watches to individual games. You can even set a price level that must be reached for it to send an email to you. It also has graphs tracking price over time for each game.

Re: Tennis World Tour 2 - A Winner

BionicDodo

Has there ever been a tennis game better than Virtua Tennis 2 on Dreamcast? I'm genuinely asking. I loved that one (and enjoyed a few older ones too like Pete Sampras on MD, Super Tennis on SNES and Anna Kournikova Smash Court Tennis on PS1) but don't think I've played a tennis game since.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

BionicDodo

I think part of the problem here is that people expect the platform owner, who is trying to convince them to get the new console, to be the most generous dev, not someone like CDPR. The other issue is that 2 year old games don't really need stand alone remasters. They need a bit of a polish for the new tech akin to upping the graphics settings on a PC release. If Spider-Man has received so much effort that it must be a retail release, then I would suggest they would have been better off spending those resources on adding more content to Miles Morales at this point.

Re: PS5 Pre-Order Mess Put into Perspective as Xbox Buyers Are Also Forced to Scramble

BionicDodo

Well, despite not being in the market for a new console, I had a look an hour or so after they opened in the UK just out of interest and got in on Argos, so I feel this is a combination of Sony defence + social media being invented for people to moan about everything not being fair. Other than Miccrosoft's site having issues this felt about standard for a hotly anticipated item going on sale.

Re: Reaction: Bethesda Acquisition Is a Kick in the Balls for PS5, But Sony's Goals Won't Change

BionicDodo

@zebric21 I don't know what the future holds, but there are often amazing deals out there for Game Pass. I got 3 years Game Pass Ultimate for about £3.50/month. That gives me access on Xbone and PC. If major games are going to be as much as £70 at launch, you wouldn't have to play many on GP to make it seem good value.

The other side of a big collection is this: You may not have time to play 100+ games, but the odds that there are several in there that you really want to play are high. Those odds are obviously lower when you're getting a small handful of (older) games each month.

All that said, I've never fully got on with the service personally. I like owning my own games and am often too afraid to start a really long game on there in case it disappears before I can finish it. For people who play lots of annual sports games and games like Call of Duty where they move on to the new version each year, games as a subscription makes a lot of sense though.

Re: Reaction: Bethesda Acquisition Is a Kick in the Balls for PS5, But Sony's Goals Won't Change

The coming of PS5 and Series X has really shown me that the playground console wars are still very much alive and well. People get so angry when talking about 'the other side' as if they're part of some tribe and not just customers of a particular company that are out to make lots of money where possible.

I currently own a Switch, PS4 Pro, Xbox One S and a middling PC and play all four. I have no allegiance to one company as I buy what appeals to me at any given time (usually long after release as it works out cheaper, although I pre-ordered a Switch). My one hope from this acquisition is that it reunites Obsidian with the Fallout franchise. That would surely be a good thing.

Re: Spelunky 2 - Rock Hard Roguelike Is a Superior Sequel

BionicDodo

Much as I love my PS4, I really wish this one was on Switch. I have fond memories of sitting in bed in the dark having 'just one more quick go' at the original game for Vita, long after I should have gone to sleep. The game just suits portable play so well that it seems a shame for it to be anchored to home machines only.

Ah well, PS4 it is...

Re: New PS5 Photos Show a Big and Weird Looking Console

BionicDodo

It's definitely an out there design. Really hard to tell whether it looks good without seeing it in person.

The Series X is obviously very (x)boxy but i really want to see one in a bold colour. I doubt they'll ever do it officially, but I want to see a colourful one to really nail that double Gamecube look!

Re: PlayStation Store PSVR Spotlight Sale Is Packed with Great Deals

BionicDodo

Sadly all the games I want are either not on sale or are reduced to a price that is higher than their previous sale prices (EVE, Arizona Sunshine). Will probably bite on EVE anyway, for some VR/HOTAS action before Star Wars Squadrons arrives.

Maybe they'll add more games to the sale later - I'd like to see The Exorcist, Blasters of the Universe, Transpose, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Statik, I Expect You to Die, Red Matter, Sairento, The Mage's Tale, End Space, Ultrawings...

Re: Street Fighter Development Passed to New Generation as Yoshinori Ono Quits

BionicDodo

The sad thing about SFV is that in the end it's a great game but its reputation was forever tarnished by their approach to it and the pathetic state of the launch game.

These days I rarely buy a fighting game until what feels like something close to a Final Edition featuring all DLC characters comes out. Except King of Fighters; I know I'll buy KoF XV as soon as it comes out, unless they are somehow stupid enough to pull a SFV.

Re: Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series Dated for 25th August

BionicDodo

Can't wait for this one. From what I've heard it's a thoroughly enjoyable ride, even if it is very simplistic and will not grow old gracefully as VR technology and software develops further. But then I enjoyed Rebel Assault for what it was back in '93, so who cares how it will age if you're enjoying it now?!
