I like what they're going for. The animations are still very stiff and need to be more situative in transitions. Gameplay needs to be figured out, because enemies and interactions were very clearly just placed where they were for this gameplay trailer and not for actual gameplay purposes. We'll see, but it's got the potential to be like an Avatar game we never got.
There's not much fan fare for this anyways, and people can wait for reviews. If anybody just pre-orders stuff blindly and it turns out to be a dud only have themselves to blame.
Despite looking like it being made by Unreal assets and ai, the trailer had a fun A or AA charm to it, but I'm not holding my breath.
Binary Domain was a shift to something else and it was brilliant. Sure, I'm all in on Yakuza/LaD, but having range is fine too.
What RGG has pandered to however is making things more ridiculous for viral memes sake. I skipped pirate yakuza cause if that. Yakuza is best when it's first a heartfelt crime soap opera, and second a silly romp.
Ok, that is some quality TV in his résumé. Especially Shogun is top tier. My only beef is that we don't start with greek mythology. While the PS2 graphics have aged well, a visually stunning retelling would be more needed than the Norse duology.
If Atlus/Sega officially state that Metaphor won't get an extended rerelease I'll be buying it in an instant. Just be upfront.
It's less a matter of money but time. If I'm going to invest 60+ hours into a game, I want the entire experience, because I'll never have the time to do it again.
Man, I really don't care for Fortnite and pop culture crossovers, but I might be checking this one out. Love kill bill and am still waiting for Nikki's revenge.
I find this kind of whining discourse rather toothless... We've been eating great when it comes to games, be it sequel or not. It's like the pointless "super hero fatigue" or "star wars fatigue" discussion. Yes, not every release was a banger, but these people will rather cherry pick to uphold their narrative than admit that we got some very good stuff over the years as well.
Yes, Sony should pursue more low-mid range productions that can take on risks and don't take forever to make like naughty dogs next game, but all that doesn't take away from the greatness from these sequels. Half sequels like miles morales and lost legacy are also great to iterate while using current tech.
Ok, that means a tech hiatus for the foreseeable future for me as I'll just make the most use out of what I have. Was planning for the steam machine, but that'll depend heavily on the price now.
OpenAI screwed the world over with seemingly zero legal repercussions... yay for late capitalism!
Sheesh, the situation is dire, far beyond gaming. That's a situation that could have been circumvented with government oversight instead of an unregulated free market. People rather taking corporate regulation over government regulation baffle me. It's the kind of people that play cyberpunk and think "yeah, that's the kind of world I want to be in" instead of seeing a cautionary tale.
People bash on Amy these days for not releasing a game for years, but at the same time, she and her team managed to release 3 great games in a single generation, and that with hardware that was a pain to work with. They've had x86 dev kits for years and no new game since last of us 2. Usually I'm like, take your time and do it right, but this is just embarrassing.
That's what you get if you let peers and algorithms be the sole tastemakers for your kids. Yes, it's not good to demonize kids trends. I go half ways and try to interact with Minecraft, among us (both already rather old) and the likes, but I make sure that the kids get in touch with quality media of all kinds, discuss and create an understanding for what they consume and move away from open ended time sinks. People gotta take media literacy more serious and not just shove a tablet into the pram.
Would love to play more Genshin, Honkai and ZZZ but I just can't keep up with them.
I wished they'd make retail collections of past seasons/events where they make a grind-free single player retail game of it. It would be a better way to onboard those interested but feel overwhelmed. Have the game content then somehow interact with the f2p version to continue on. I'd pay 40-60€ for it, which is definitely more than the 0€ I decide to pay for f2p.
Both are fantastic together with Silent Hill f, all well deserving of GOTY and Death stranding 2 as runner up. Despite the world going downhill, 2025 was just a phenomenal year in gaming.
@R_Ryder enthusiasts perhaps, if they don't go the "I can build this cheaper myself" route, but maybe not impulse buyers. It's all guesswork really at this point.
The steam machine needs to be sub 500€/$ to have the desired market position. The only thing that'll possibly throw a wrench in that is the mad orange crybaby (and I don't mean Ono michio)
I don't get the argument that "you can't subsidize like a console because some people might never buy a steam game".
I mean, sure that can happen, but you could say the same about Sony never seeing an extra dollar because someone only gets 2nd hand discs. A large part of playstation sales don't see more money coming in after people buy FIFA, CoD or GTA and then never buy another game after that while the console collects dust.
Generally think that the steam machine does attract more enthusiasts that buy a variety of games, most likely on the steam platform, rather than the casual playstation buyer that just plays the occasional sports game.
Another studio Sony could have purchased on the cheap, but rather take on heavy debt with an unprofitable bungie, while embracer, tencent and the like know jack of how the gaming industry works.
Every bit helps!? 5% is a slap to the face! I'd rather take my business elsewhere to retail instead of only profiting big Sony alone. Probably save a lot more while doing so.
Probably won't, but it absolutely should! I find valves approach that respects its consumers very welcome and should have others follow suit.
One of many examples... faceplates. It's a gimmick that won't bring in lot's of money for Sony, yet still they go out of their way to sue custom case manufacturers. Valve releases CAD files. Pretty much "have fun tinkering"
Another example, the switch dock. It comes with the switch, most people won't buy an extra dock. Still Nintendo makes the switch incompatible with 3rd party docks.
These are just minor ways in which the big brands step on consumer rights, but exactly the fact that it goes to such minor, unprofitable areas just underlines the corporate pettiness of these companies. Still, many so willingly pledge tribal allegiance to these companies.
The only point that still speaks for traditional consoles is that they still have physical media to resell, but with game key cards and empty Blu-ray's, that becomes less of an advantage as time passes.
So if the future is inevitably all-digital, then it'll be PC for me.
Japanese games will be top tier as always. Hoping for more Stranger than heaven, but they'll probably keep it for after Kiwami 3 releases. Maybe Konami will have some news. Just no weeb pandering please.
@dark_knightmare2 I just finished the Kitsune segment, so there's still more ahead, but up to now the game had more memorable moments than Tsushima had, despite me really loving Tsushima.
Atsu is just way more engaging, while Jin being cool and stoic was just a step above the silent protagonist trope, which I really don't care for at all (looking at you Dragon Quest)
@LazyDaisy exactly what I'm saying. Of course a huge crowd will gravitate towards GTA, but it doesn't cover the entire game market.
Also, I'm happier to play Wolverine over GTA6. Even if they were to release simultaneously. I don't know how well I can take a game about "Florida man". News about the US is already too obnoxious.
Come on, Yotei is a class above storytelling wise... Kitsune! Tsushima is fantastic, but never quite hit such emotional highs. Yotei is just a much more personal story, that despite the whole lady snowblood, kill bill, blue eye samurai plotline still manages to make it feel fresh and meaningful.
If they treat is as expansive lore that's canon, maybe we'll get something good. Zach's last two movies were very competent. We just also have to keep in mind that Resident Evil is a lot of good things, but it's not very smart. So if it does the schlocky, gory, dumb conspiracy thing right, it'll be fun.
I'm annoyed that other studios have to feel the need to tiptoe around the release of GTA. Is it going to be a good game, yes, I'm very confident on that. But does it reduce my interest in other titles, no!
Another reason why I don't think fear of other releases is warranted is that a majority of people buying GTA are people who don't try any other games besides gta, sports games and military shooters anyways. I don't see the consumer base split on it unless it's another mainstream sport or military game.
This hype dynamic the people online create (same goes for silk song, which has fizzled out quicker than coke on a sunny day) is just annoying and personally rather off putting.
@Jacko11 I usually just buy em 2nd hand if it's something I still wanna play despite any bad business practices. So yeah, I get to play what I want and still vote with my wallet. Generally don't care too much about the entire overblown drama in the industry, but I really hate anti union actions.
Lies... definitely union busting! A no buy for me! I advise, if you really can't resist the urge to play it (because the game does look amazing), just get it 2nd hand.
@ShadowofSparta Absolutely, and the no-kings marches were meaningful. Still awful that a large part of the world condones so much misconduct right there where it actually matters... the ballot. Mass spamming YouTube videos and comment sections over a problematic/criminal voice actor appears rather ineffective and oftentimes just insincere "activism" and not tackling systemic problems.
@Flaming_Kaiser Aha, if that's really your takeaway then I can disregard anything from you by default. As usual personal and hostile, so not surprised. Though I do fully agree with you on comment #71, a point where many here would cry out "censorship" if Sony doesn't publish every smut game.
@Jammer if you mean Tory and the monarchy, absolutely.
