Were you hoping to grab either Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots or Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD from the PS Store this week?
Probably not, right? But tough luck if you were, because Konami has ripped them from Sony’s PS3 storefront without any prior notice.
Word has spread across social media about the delistings, and it even expands to the original PSP version of Peace Walker as well. Existing owners will still be able to download the games from their libraries, but no new purchases will be allowed.
The company has clearly removed them in preparation for the PS5’s new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 2, which includes updated ports of both of the aforementioned games.
But the logic makes no real sense to us: we can’t imagine many people will be dusting off their crusty old consoles in order to purchase these ahead of the new compilation. And isn’t the whole point of the Master Collection to make these games more accessible on modern hardware anyway?
Regardless of its goals, Vol 2 doesn’t release until 27th August, so it could have given fans notice about these impending delistings, and removed them later in the year, when the new bundle drops.
We’ve been loving this resurrected Konami recently, but this is a bad look.
