We’re not entirely sure how we missed the announcement of Samson: A Tyndalston Story, but by ‘eck does Sony need to move mountains to get this game on the PS5.
Currently only announced for PC by studio Liquid Swords, which is comprised of a gaggle of ex-Avalanche veterans, this looks like the spiritual successor to the underrated PS4 Mad Max game we’ve all been waiting for.
In a deep dive shared on the game’s Steam page, the team reveals that the release is set in the 90s, and has been inspired by classic Robert De Niro movies like Ronin and Heat.
The game’s got on-foot melee action, but it also puts a big focus on car combat, where the weight and handling of each vehicle comes to the fore.
According to the team, each whip has been tuned to handle differently, so you’ll feel the speed of racing cars compared to their everyday civilian variants.
Furthermore, each collision will damage your car authentically, so you’ll have to deal with popped tires, offset steering, and issues like that.
We reckon this looks great, and with the pedigree of the team behind it, we can’t believe it’s not getting more attention.
Hopefully Sony’s third-party outreach team has already been in contact with Liquid Swords, because this seems like the perfect fit for a full-scale console release.

This kinda reminds me of Ryan Gosling Drive and yeah it looks pretty cool.
Wow, thanks Push Square for alerting me to this game! Mad Max was an underrated gem and the gritty urban setting of this new venture from ex devs looks very promising indeed. Wish listed.
Already on my steam list. Looks epic
I saw something about this late last year, strange as wherever/whatever I saw of it stated that it would release on PlayStation.
Looks pretty good. Mad Max was great. This one reminds me of a mix of Driver and Sleeping Dogs.
You had me at "spiritual successor to the underrated PS4 Mad Max game."
The main character looks like 2007 Sam Fisher from the early Splinter Cell Conviction videos.
Also randomly came across this yesterday, looks ***** rad. Its $24.99 for like a 10 hour focused story. Looks a little Mindseyesque but for much less and telling you up front its not an open world game
Gza better be on the soundtrack or that's just a stupid easy missed opportunity.
Reminded me of watchdogs without the hacking.
Looks great! — and, I can't be the only one getting Matt Berry vibes off of the first pic above.
Will happily buy this day 1 / full price if there's a promise of future DLC to replace the character model + all voiceacting with Matt Berry.
I don't really know why Samson is being heralded right now when it hasn't even come out yet. What if it gets mediocre review scores, would we still want it on PS5? Just because the trailer looks good doesn't mean the game will be.
Looks cool. Will wait for reviews.
@JDINCINERATOR of course this could be bad but if the vehicle combat is great like Mad Max then I'm definitely excited for this one.
How have I not heard of this? This looks great so far and honestly we need more mad max inspired stuff.
This year's Old Country. I love games that are focused and >20 hours. And it will be AA priced iirc.
@RawnDawn I agree, though I am weary too. I thought MindsEye looked cool in trailers, then I like many others played it and it was diabolical.
@JDINCINERATOR Oh for sure, I'm personally gonna wait for reviews before I buy but I'm still excited for it to release.
Glad I moved to pc👍
I was aware of this but for some reason I was sure that it had been confirmed for PlayStation and Xbox. Wishful thinking obviously.
@16BitHero Mad Max was one of my favourite games from the PS4/XB1 generation. Massively underrated and it surprised me that it wasn't a huge hit. A gorgeous, open world game based on an established and well liked movie franchise.
Yea I saw this when it was announced. Would love to see it make its way to Playstation.
@SMJ Same. I even bought it twice when the Series X boosted the fps to 60. The Arkham style combat although not particularly deep, was always crunchy and satisfying. The vehicle combat was fantastic, especially once you had certain upgrades. The visuals and environment still look excellent to this day - I was thinking how good the skybox looks compared to the much newer Avatar game. There are some really good critiques on YouTube if you want to reminisce without another playthrough!
