Square Enix won't be expanding Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with any DLC, but it did have plans to at some point during the development of the RPG.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared with Wccftech the developer had plans to make Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC, but after revisiting the topic, it ultimately decided to focus all its efforts on what fans really want: the third instalment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
"We figured that what fans want the most is to bring the third instalment as soon as possible. That would take priority over the Rebirth DLC, so we decided to take that approach."

However, looking ahead, Hamaguchi appears open to the idea of the third game receiving an expansion, or potentially another "full title" after it. He explained: "With the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, there’s probably going to be a much wider audience for Final Fantasy as a whole. Whether we bring another new DLC or a full title, that’s something we are actively considering."
It has been known for some time now Square Enix won't be doing anything more with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, besides bringing it to more platforms. Last November, Hamaguchi said fans "really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible."
Would you rather get the third part of the story sooner instead of a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth expansion? Let us know in the comments below.

This was the right call, god SE would've got eaten alive if they made a secret part 4! Fun fact they were also tossing round ideas of having a Vincent/Cid DLC for Rebirth like what they did with Yuffie in Remake, but scrapped it so they could focus purely on part 3. Call me a fan boy or whatever but I have been loving the remakes so far, and I have complete faith they will stick the landing.
Edit: I will say though, once the trilogy is finished FF7 as an IP needs to be put on ice for a very very long time.
Good call. The release schedule has been meandering enough as it is, and this way the content will likely get more care.
I think what they should do is give Dirge of Cerberus the Crisis Core treatment.
Agree that this was a good decision. However hope they ignore the unjustified complaints about the "padding" in rebirth and make part 3 just as expansive.
Definitely the right decision!
@tameshiyaku I will never understand that "discourse" at all.
There's already an FF7 Part 4, it's called FF7: Advent Children.
@Oram77 A secret cameo from the Yuffie voice actress featuring in SHf was bad enough. I changed the voix for my second playthrough and had to check IMDB for unintentional comedy. Well if Yuffie is now in Silent Hill and in a screechy way that is.
“With the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, there’s probably going to be a much wider audience for Final Fantasy as a whole”.
That is quite an optimistic take. Just checked the latest figures: FF7 original - over 15 mil; FF7 remake - over 7 mil; FF7 Rebirth - no definite figure, but I would estimate it between 4-5mil.
A lot seems to hang on the assumption that there are millions of players just waiting for part 3 to release and then play trilogy in one go…
@tameshiyaku I don’t know how they’re gonna do it tbh. Because they’ve got flying and underwater exploration to think about.
Give me an ADVENT CHILDERN GAME.. you cowards!
@Vovander This maybe cope, but I do feel there is a certain % of people waiting for part 3 to come out before they take the plunge, what's the actual number of this %? I have no idea, like I said I could be high on copium lol
Should have never even made the dlc for the 1st game. It was bad enough being split into 3 parts. But to split it up even further with a bunch of dlcs? Come on now
That’s a shame, I would’ve loved it. As much as I want part 3, I’m in no rush and love spending time in the remake trilogy world.
Good decision really. I would rather that they focus on the 3rd game instead of stretching out Rebirth further. I think Rebirth already have plenty to offer on its own.
@Vovander I don't know whether that is right or not time will tell but there are a bunch of people arguing that they won't buy 1 third of a game which is a bad way to look at the individual entries but over time I think this trilogy will pay off greatly with re-release potential galore.
@rjejr How the third game of the Retrilogy will link to (in Kitase's exact words) Advent Children will still be open tbh, and with all the new plot devices introduced AC will have to be substantially retconned at least if it's still to be a chronological sequel to the Retrilogy.
I would've gladly paid for a Vincent valentine story dlc
@GoatFace04 I don't see it as one 3rd or 2 3rd's of a game. I see it as a series, each one as a direct sequel. It's not one big game at all, like a movie trilogy
Scrapped for third game because they need to release it before ps6 comes out so they can start work on ff9 remake
@Noone2025 I agree and I don't think it could've reached its full potential if it was one entry.
This is old news like before rebirth even came out old news
Also, I feel like the DLCs and any other games set in the FF7R universe(s) will most certainly involve going into the alternate worlds, and I can see one centered upon Zack and potentially Aerith too, with the former essentially becoming a Crisis Core II of sorts.
@SweetSummerShunv The FF7 Retrilogy will end with Cloud in the shower and Tifa waking up in bed saying "Cloud, I just had the weirdest dream." And then Advent Children will be fine. 😂
Just playing ff7 rebirth right now and it’s awesome. It doesn’t need more content!
Since the story DLC was scrapped..... why not make a DLC that adds in the FF7Remake weapons, there's some attachment to those especially for me I love the Hard Edge's design and by Rebirth it was only displayed at Johnny's house lol
..and maybe when Part 3 drops have the save file upload to include weapons acquired from the previous two games to be playable.
Currently playing FF7 Ever Crisis(due to the FF13 collab) and seeing a mobile game had more weapon variety(which includes the ones from the OG FF7) than the single player one is just sad.
