Echoing what other people have already said, this is a series I'd love to get into (I own multiple games from the series) but I just don't know if I'll ever be able to find the time. If I do, I will most likely start with ToCS and just read a synopsis for the Sky games. That would give me a chance at least.
Looking forward to trying out Luke when he releases. Overall I really enjoyed SFV. In recent years I've not touched it that much, but in the earlier years I played a lot (on PC in those days). Even though there are other great fighting games around, you can't beat Street Fighter.
In a new game I'm not really sure what I want. Mostly more of the same I suppose? The return of parrying and a dash mechanic would be good (lifted from the Arc Systems games). However I do wonder whether a dash would change the fundamental feel of the game too much. I'd also like a soundtrack on par with Third Strike. That was very much of its time though so I doubt we'll get anything quite like that again. Besides that, I just want Street Fighter to continue feeling like Street Fighter.
What I'd really love to see more generally is a Blazblue game in the Strive engine. I suspect this is highly unlikely to ever happen.
Been switching between Tales of Arise and Trails of Cold Steel 1 on PS5. Arise is good, about 25 hours in now, but I really don't feel the need to rush through it. If I make it this far into a game normally it means I want to see it though to the end ASAP. I will definitely finish it as it's a good game. It's just not a great game.
I also picked up a Series S this week. My first Xbox since the 360. I've been somewhat distracted by Game Pass. Unbelievable deal.
I'm really enjoying Arise (taken a quick break to blast through Metroid Dread) but have never played a SAO game. Even if I was a super fan of both, this DLC does seem rather pricey.
Always been intrigued by SAO - are the games worth playing? I can never really tell if they're single player games or "online" as the name suggests.
Still playing Tales Of Arise. Way to go yet but I’m taking my time with this one. Really enjoying the setting. Doing quite a few side quests and chatting to all NPCs, which I rarely do. Most games I just do the main story.
Like many others, I’m also playing Metroid Dread. Still pretty early but loving it so far.
@Voltan Amazing! I had no idea about that. I used the cards a bit at launch with Demon's Souls, but these days I tend to skip over them. Thanks for the tip!
So glad they’re sorting the wait for connection issue out. I mainly play offline so having to wait ages is especially galling given it’s for no reason at all. Sounds like it’ll be better now but really it should be deferred until an online mode is chosen.
I've been playing Tales of Arise. I think this might be the first Tales game I see through to the end. Perhaps it's just because I'm building on my previous attempts with Berseria and Vesperia, but the combat makes more sense this time. The story, world and characters are also playing a big part too. Looking forward to seeing what's next beyond the few hours I've played.
Probably going to buy it in a few minutes when I head down to work a bit more on 13 Sentinels. Will be nice to have it loaded for when I beat that game in the next couple of days.
Wrapping up 13 Sentinels. Nearly 100% done with both the battle mode and story mode. I can kind of see a few options for how it might end but it still seems kind of open which is exciting. Really great game.
Looking at Tales Of Arise to dive into next. I enjoyed the first 10 hours or so of Vesperia and Berseria but I just can't quite get into the combat. Perhaps the third time will be the charm. I certainly enjoyed the demo.
After playing the demo I’m kind of getting interested in this. I played the first few hours of Berseria and Vesperia and whilst I liked them I dropped off due to the combat. I don’t hate it but I feel I don’t know what’s really going on. The same would probably happen with Arise but I’m very tempted all the same.
Still working on 13 Sentinels. Mostly focussed on the story so far but have hit the lock on pretty much all characters at around 75%. Will be heading into Destruction Mode for some time next.
I'm really not sure how I feel about the addition of a map. It's not something I ever missed in Demon's or Dark Souls. In fact, it's somewhat more fun without one. By the sounds of it though Elden Ring's levels will be a lot more complex, so perhaps a map system will be a welcome addition.
@Ristar24 Been having a blast with it all evening on Switch. Completed episode one and did some deathmatch with bots. Performance seems perfectly fine and the gyro is cool.
@SplooshDmg It was too tempting in the end. I’m old enough to remember having a 486 which couldn’t run the game originally. Amazing to have it handheld!
I am very tempted by Trails of Cold Steel IV at that price. I just need to actually get on and play I - III first... I played around the first 10 hours of III last summer when it came to Switch and was really impressed. That made me want to go back and start from I. I have the games from previous sales, just haven't started them yet.
I just picked up Ys VIII in the sale so I'm currently trying to decide whether to start ToCS, Tokyo Xanadu eX+ or Ys...
I played P5R, P3P and P4G last year for the first time. Whilst I enjoyed P5R the most, P3P was very much a close second. P4G didn't click quite as much as the other two for me, though possibly because I'd only just played the other two games recently and I should have taken a break
I'd love to see a modern remaster of FES, or some super remaster which contains all of the content across the various games. Even if I did spoil the new story content in FES for myself.
A bit of a mix. SMT 3, HZD, GG Strive. Not really heavily invested in anything at the moment. Dropped off FF7R again for now too. So much filler in that game it feels like to me. Always end up switching between things like this when I'm coming off of a game I really in enjoyed (both Nier games). Lots of stuff I want to play, just not really committed to anything in particular yet.
This game was one of the big reasons I got a PS5 at launch but it coming to PS4 wouldn’t bother me at all. For one thing I wrapped it up months ago and I don’t think you’d get 60FPS on the PS4. I’ve played mostly PS4 games on my PS5 but the great thing is some have great updates for the new platform. Even those that don’t benefit from faster loads etc. In short, I don’t think Sony going cross gen for supposed PS5 exclusives is a problem at all.
Now that Intergrade is here I'll be picking up from around the 10 hour mark in FF7R. So nice to have the game run at 60FPS! Also carrying on diving into Guilty Gear Strive. Sadly I can't get my fight stick to work so I'm having to play on pad. Mapping dash, roman cancel etc to buttons helps a lot.
I've put Returnal down for the time being. The run times to the first boss and lack of some kind of resume functionality are killing the game for me. In a way I wish I'd bought Rift Apart instead.
I also finished Nier Automata earlier this week. What a great game. I'll be thinking of that and Replicant for some time to come.
@Reveluv I was surprised how much I enjoyed the New Leaf on 3DS. I played around 15 hours of it last year when everyone else was playing New Horizons. It's also the complete opposite of what I would have liked in the past too. I find as I get older I appreciate a slower pace more and more
Still playing through Nier Automata route B. Getting towards the end now. As much as I like the Nier games, they could probably do with a bit more streamlining when replaying sections.
On a similar note, also struggling a bit with Returnal. It's a great game, feels responsive, amazing atmosphere etc. The issue I'm having is that the route back to Phrike is usually too long in my opinion. And if you make it you won't always have a great weapon. It's funny how it makes the run back to bosses in Dark/Demon's Souls feel relatively streamlined. I think that's partly down to the static routes, the fact you keep your equipment and you can make many more attempts on the same boss in a given amount of time. As I said, Returnal is definitely a good game, possibly even great. It's just going to take me a long time to get through it.
I'll also be continuing SMT 3. Just got to (for what I presume is the first time) the Amala Network. Love the design and music of the area. I discovered one of my PS4 controllers has stick drift on the right hand side - the camera was always going above my head. Not something I've experienced before. Blowing in whilst depressing the stick seemed to improve matters dramatically. I suspect it just needs some dust to be removed or something like that.
I finally caved and bought Returnal last night. By the time it finished downloading I had enough time to do the first run, which I guess is a hardwired tutorial and you're supposed to die when you hit that huge enemy. Now back in the ship and will continue today. I'll also carry on my second run of Automata. Just hit the fairground again.
My copy of SMT3 popped through the letterbox this morning too, which was rather unexpected! I will be booting it up later. I'll probably play on my PS4 so I can keep rest mode free for Returnal.
I was going to pick this up day one, but I think I might actually wait as it'll be some time before I get to it. Heavily into Nier Automata at the moment and on the cusp of picking up Returnal. After that there's going to be FF7R Intergrade to keep me occupied. Plus, I think I'm a little burned out on SMT games having played Persona 5, 3 and 4 back to back from last summer into the new year.
I've been playing both Nier Replicant and Automata. I've just reached the new content in Replicant and all I can say is "wow". I was really hoping for it to be something like this, but it's exceeded expectations so far. I think I have about half of it left. As for Automata I'm still pretty early on in the first run. I did get quite close to ending A a few years back but put the game down. After Replicant I feel much more invested in it this time.
Once I finish Replicant I'm pretty sure I'll allow myself to buy Returnal so will be playing that alongside Automata for the next little while (and probably SMT3 too!).
I'm pretty sure this will be my entry point to the world of VR. I've used the original Vive and was very impressed but haven't felt the need to get a VR setup of my own yet.
Just got ending A in Nier Replicant so will be starting off the next part of the game. Will definitely get B, but whether I go for the other endings or watch them on YouTube remains to be seen.
Nier Replicant for me. Really getting into it though still relatively early on. Also bought Automata in the sale and will give that another chance after I finish Replicant. Would have been tempted by Returnal but the lack of a quick save to pause and resume a run is a killer for me.
Sekiro would certainly be incredible. I played the first 10 hours or so on PC. Would be interested in giving it another go. I'd also like to see Nier Automata.
Nier Replicant for me. I wasn't going to get the game as I fell off Automata, but a few previews convinced me that there should be a lot for me to like in both games. About an hour in - far too early to have an opinion - but it seems promising.
Very excited to grab this. I don't think I'll play it right away as I'm still relatively early in God of War. Nier Replicant is coming on Friday too. Definitely one I want to get to in the next few months though.
I'm still mostly playing Monster Hunter Rise but I have started up a new game of World on the PS5. Been enjoying it more this time around now that the franchise has clicked. I do miss my palamute companion though.
I've also put a bit more time into God of War. The game is absolutely stunning in 4k/60Hz. First time playing through the game and glad to be experiencing with the PS5 patch.
I've also been tempted to pick up 13 Sentinels in the current sale. Looks quite interesting, though like many people who haven't played it I'm not completely convinced by the combat sections of the game. Seems as if this fear is put to rest by most people who've actually played the game.
I'm not too bothered about any of these but happy that some are. There are always going to be on and off months. We've also just had, what was for me at least, an amazing drop of games from Play At Home. And Horizon is still to come.
I've been back more on the Switch again of late. Started Monster Hunter Rise yesterday having finished Bowser's Fury on Thursday. on PS5 I've been enjoying Yakuza Like A Dragon. Still pretty early on I think, about 7 hours in. Also checked out the free Play At Home games, because why not. Gungeon in particular is one I've always wanted to try but haven't picked up.
I wonder how this will work as a standalone purchase. I have the base game on PC but have yet to pick up the first lot of DLC. I was tempted to get it standalone on PS5. I wonder whether this will be possible with the second set, and whether there will be a way to buy both standalone packs together with a discount.
Wow, this is incredible! Pretty much all of those games have been on my radar at some point but I don't own any (besides The Witness on PC). Can't wait for them to become available!
Back in the 90s I used to replay games many, many times. Fast forward to now and I rarely do, though I often wish that I did. There's always something new worth playing, which is why I tend not to go back. I always think of the mythical point in the future when the backlog will be clear and I'll go back to some favourites.
The exception is Doom which I must have completed 100s of times since the 90s. I did a run of episode 1 just last week.

@Reveluv Funnily enough I’ve been pondering Animal Crossing for a while now. Just for something with a totally different pace.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 378
Still playing through Nier Automata route B. Getting towards the end now. As much as I like the Nier games, they could probably do with a bit more streamlining when replaying sections.

My copy of SMT3 popped through the letterbox this morning too, which was rather unexpected! I will be booting it up later. I'll probably play on my PS4 so I can keep rest mode free for Returnal.

After that there's going to be FF7R Intergrade to keep me occupied. Plus, I think I'm a little burned out on SMT games having played Persona 5, 3 and 4 back to back from last summer into the new year.
