Sony has significantly expanded its Play at Home 2021 initiative, announcing that PlayStation players can look forward to a total of ten free games this spring. Yep, you read that right: ten totally free PS4 games, with no subscription required. Once redeemed, they're yours to keep.
Starting from the 25th March β that's next week at the time of writing β you'll be able to download and enjoy the following PS4 titles for the sweet, sweet price of nothing:
Four PSVR games will also be made available for free:
All nine of these games will be free until the 22nd April 2021, so you've got roughly one month to get them added to your library. Once you've done that, as mentioned, they're yours forever.
And last but certainly not least, starting from the 19th April 2021, you'll be able to nab PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn for free. This open world adventure will be available until the 14th May, and it's the 'Complete Edition', which includes the excellent Frozen Wilds expansion.
So there you go, ten free PS4 games. Will you be playing any of these titles? Give us a thumbs up in the comments section below, and be sure to check out our list of All Free PS4 Games, Offers Included in Play At Home.

Amazing offer. Well done Sony. Even a few on here i dont own yet. Paper Beasts in particular is very exciting
Very generous and excellent selection. I've been waiting on a sale for Subnautica and Paper Beasts for ages, so it's great to know I'll soon own them for free!
Quite unexpected! Time to dust off the old VR headset it seems!! Can't wait to try Astrobot!
Sure, I'll give Rez another go.
Wow! Good deal. Note to everyone - play Enter the Gungeon, and don't give up the first hundred times it kicks your a***. It is AWESOME!
Man I would love to jump into Frozen Wilds dlc, but I haven't touched Horizon Zero Dawn since I beat it when it released.
Nevertheless, adding this to my library of course!
Holy smokes, that is a pretty gnarly selection to give away for free!
This is brilliant. Been meaning to buy paper beast, moss and Rez infinite for PSVR, and had enter the gungeon on my radar for a while. Most of the others I have but this is great and also saves me money I would definitely have spent!
Really impressed they didnβt just have a bumper PS+ couple of months too, but instead actually have them free and not as part of a subscription (hopefully they donβt double up on plus).
On a side note, this is clearly Sony reacting to Xbox.
So before fanboys of either side get mad, this is why you need competition between consoles!!
Jiminy crickets! ππππππ
Wow, what a great list of games!
There are only 3 games I don't own (Enter the Gungeon, Moss and Paper Beast - and I'm glad to get to try them), but for anyone new to Playstation, with this and the Playstation Plus Collection, you've got more than enough great games to play for hours!
@redd214
You have PSVR but havenβt played itβs best game!? You are in for such a treat!!
@Kalvort This has nothing to do with Xbox. It's always been about Sony providing free games during the pandemic, something they did last year too.
Wow and no throw away games in there either. HZD complete edition free is incredible.
@Kalvort This was announced ages ago mate R&C was the 1st free game. Incredible the free games they are adding.
@LiamCroft Yep although they have added some seriously good games this year. Can't wait to grab Moss and Subnautica. Surely no one will find a negative in free games lol.
This is... extremely generous. Huh...
The VR games are useless to me, but even so, that is really generous. I will download these as soon as available.
@thefourfoldroot just never got around to it my friend. Too many games too little time!
@Kalvort I don't think this specifically is a direct reaction to anything other than COVID actually.
They did Play at Home last year and announced they were expanding it earlier this year. I genuinely believe this is mostly a goodwill gesture (although obviously it does create positive press as well).
Subnautica is exceptional. DLC expansion is coming soon too, probably the incentive for giving that one away.
@Kalvort are Xbox giving away some free games outside of their subs as well? Just wondering if I've missed something and whether I need to log on and claim some freebies!
Wow, some really great titles there, with one of the crown jewels HZD included too!
Big shout to REZ too.
Oh cool, I already own HZD but never got the expansion, will give it a try then
I have Enter the Gungeon for the Switch but will HAPPILY double dip. And I've been curious about The Witness because I'm not a huge puzzle guy but I've heard such massive acclaim for it. Been looking for a reason to try it and getting it for free seems like a fantastic reason.
I downloaded HZD as part of the PS Collection - does that version include the DLC or do I need to reinstall this one for that? Cheers in advance!
Also - wanted to play Subnautica for age so... my time has come woo!
That's quite a genorous giveaway. I take it PSVR isn't required to redeem Thumper? If so, I'll give it a try.
@get2sammyb is rez infinite the vr version also ?
While COVID-19 has really sucked, I have a ton of free games thanks to the pandemic.
I already own Horizon, but I don't have the expansion. I will definitely claim it (and all the other free games simply because, why not?!) - plus, it means I don't have to insert disc to play it anymore. I did the same thing when the Nathan Drake Collection went up for free.
Thanks for the generosity, Sony!
Awesome.
I need to find a way to fix my psvr.
@vapidwolf Yes!
@LiamCroft @get2sammyb @Max2574
True about the Play at Home initiative, but wasn't it only the Uncharted collection last year?? Nothing as major as this (I mean 10 bloody games!), which is why I think they are being more generous because of the competition.
Anyway, this is a good thing, and hopefully there will be more of it
Smart by Sony releasing Horizon Zero Dawn complete edition, creates really good press for them and hypes people up who haven't played it yet for Horizon Forbidden West later this year.
Horizon zero dawn complete edition free.now thats incredible.word up son
Lol ouch when you own all of the non vr free games....
Want to try rez infinite.
@ralphdibny nope nothing 'free' on Xbox, but the selection of games in Game Pass has seen a significant rise in both quality and quantity these last few weeks.
Ooo Paper Beast. Really wanted to try that one.
Thatβs a great group of games to be honest.
I tried horizon with my ps now trial and really enjoyed my time so I'm hyped to have the game permanently! Also excited for Abzu and Subnautica! One sea related game being relaxing and one being... f*****g terrifying!
wow, nice one Sony very generous π Plus you might get the Subnactica PS5 Upgrade that is coming guys! such a good game!
@Kalvort ahh fair enough, cheers - I got excited for a minute there! There was a few freebies last year like Injustice and Lego Ninjago but I believe they were multiplat freebies anyway. There's the usual selection there too, the first 2 crackdowns are free and there's a few others I believe
Holy crap. That's incredible. I mean horizon is dirt cheap now but wow, I've been wanting to buy it for the longest time cause it looks so fun but with how many JRPGs there are to buy, they'll always take priority but now I can finally try it out.
Here's hoping it's much better than Breath of the Wild cause I chose that game in favor of horizon during their launch. And that game was a massive waste of $60
What a selection really happy with that. Polished off final fantasy XV last night so was about to look at what to get into next what a choice now!
@Kalvort Yeah, it was much smaller in scale last year!
I've always wanted to play Enter the Gungeon. Also giving the Complete Edition of Horizon is perfect since I never played the DLC.
@get2sammyb I've a question:
I've already got ABZU and The Witness in my library from the last time I subbed to PS Plus in 2019. I only recently re-subbed (thanks to that great CD Keys deal you posted a couple weeks ago). Would I have to 'reclaim' ABZU and The Witness again from the Play At Home list or would they be automatically added to my list of 'owned' non-PS Plus games?
Sweet as my meat!
Hopefully PSV2 is compatible with VR1 Games!
Question.
I own HZD day 1 edition. Does the complete edition use the same save? Would love to beat the game a 2nd time on ultra hard mode on ngplus and play the dlc for the first time.
Nice. Already own some of these through Epic Games free weekly games for PC, but my PC is a bit rubbish so no doubt they'll play better on my PS5. And I already own a copy of HZD, but a physical copy, so no longer having to get off my ass to put the disc in will be a bonus
@Kalvort I mean, there was Journey too, but I don't blame you for forgetting. I would definitely argue that Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection was the better pick.
@Turismo4GT at the moment, if you were to resubscribe to PS plus they would automatically be part of your library again, as PS plus games that you've claimed. But:
If you're no longer a PS plus subscriber, you'll be able to claim these again
Also, even if you are a ps plus subscriber you can re-claim these, so that they're permanently yours instead of just when you have ps plus (at least, that worked for ratchet and clank)
Interested in ReZ VR and a few others. Pity I bought HZD like 1-2 months ago when it was last on sale. After finding Ghost of Tsushima a little bit of a slog with its open world gameplay, been in no rush to jump into HZD.
Disgusting
Awesome. Really stoked to try out Astro Bot Rescue Mission on my brothers PSVR. Loved the free one on PS5!
Really generous of Sony and Iβll definitely check out the other games!
And this is why I have stuck with Sony for so long!Very generous and even better there are a few games there I haven't played.
I wonder if Guerilla Games manage to get a PS5 patch out by then similar to the amazing God Of War one! We can hope!
Astro Bot AND Moss??? I need to borrow my friend's PSVR again.
Really generous, never played the HZD dlc so looking forward to that. Going to claim all the vr games and hope psvr2 will be backwards compatible, as I intend to get it when it releases.
@Turismo4GT To be brutally honest, I'm genuinely not sure. Only thing I can suggest is to try redeeming them when they're available.
@uptownsoul that's good thinking and I agree, especially if the sequel is for sure coming to PS4 too.
Nice gesture. Great to see some PSVR games included.
I nearly bought Rez on sale for Β£12.49 recently and have been eyeing up Paper Beast and The Witness too, so this is fantastic!
i'd rather get PS5 upgrade for Horizon for i have it already. But Subnautica is perfect, because it wasn't worth enought to buy for me, but now i can try it for free
@redd214 oh you'll love Astro Bot. Best Mario game not made by Nintendo.
Wow, this is incredible! Pretty much all of those games have been on my radar at some point but I don't own any (besides The Witness on PC). Can't wait for them to become available!
Generous!!
The only game though that would of appealed is Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Frozen Wilds DLC - but I already have this and the Platinum - would be great to get a PS5 update too. I don't have VR (or plans to get one yet) so those are irrelevant to me right now.
No doubt I will add (some of) these to my Library but doubt I will play them. I still have many games in my backlog I would prefer to play.
Can't deny its a very generous offer though...
As mentioned, perhaps a frame unlock patch for HZD to come around the same time for PS5 owners...
@itsfoz H:ZD is not part of the PS+ collection.
@Kalvort it was the Uncharted collection and Journey last year.
This is excellent news! Anyone yet to play The Witness should give it a chance just to explore such a unique and memorable island filled with secrets.
Iβm stoked to finally be getting the complete version of Horizon!
I know...I'm kinda weird, but I just added them up and with the free Ratchet & Clank from last month it is $270 worth of games!!!
That's sweet, I've had my eye on The Witness and Subnautica for a long time. Great initiative, didn't expect that many games at once from it - and so soon as well.
Some great games and one that may not get much attention in Rez Infinite but its a fantastic game which dates back to the Dreamcast and is kind of a precursor to how Tetris Effect came about, though the gameplay is more reminiscent of Panzer Dragoon. Also if you have VR (you should already have Astro Bot) these are some truly amazing games and Astro Bot really is one of the very best PS4 games, VR or otherwise. As good as the PS5 version is, this is better
I only started HZD a second time last week.
π
Can't they just offer the DLC for free as well?
Some of the other games I may try.
@Col_McCafferty DLC? for HZD? It says there that they are giving the Complete Edition of HZD (includes the Frozen Wilds expansion)... isn't that the DLC?
Anyhow, great offering of free games...
@rpg2000 I meant that I already own HZD but was going to purchase the DLC. I started a second playthrough last week so have no need to download it for free, The Frozen Wilds as a free download would suit me more.
Unless I can download the Complete Edition and immediately pick up where I am in the story, then that's a different matter entirely.
Fantastic! This is extremely impressive. Many of these I have already through PS Plus, but this is simply an incredible offering by Sony.
@Turismo4GT Any games you claimed when you had PS Plus before, you will be able play again after resubscribing. As for the PlayAtHome games - you'll be able to claim them again to make them available to you permanently (that's what I did with Ratchet & Clank).
Oh wow, this is very cool of them! I have most games, but those VR games like Moss I am eager to try!
Too bad VR is so boring to actually setup that I almost never play
Wow what a horrible selection of games. Ill pass
So glad I waited for horizon, this was one of my most wanted title when I got a PS last month but decided to start with title included in the ps plus collection.
@Sorteddan I love Enter the Gungeon! I hate how bad I am at Enter the Gungeon.
Love getting free VR Games. Don't have a set yet (waiting for the 2) but boy will have a backlog to playthrough when the day comes.
Hi there fellow gamers.
Sony just keep on giving.
TheyΒ΄ve been very generous and simpathetic with the whole pandemic situation that almost every single person is going trough with them giving good games for people to not only stay at home but also to avoid some boredom that can clearly happen.
And Horizon Zero Dawn, Moss, Astro Bot and Abzu are awesome games to play.
ItΒ΄s also a very smart way for Sony to promote HZD sequel.
CanΒ΄t wait to continue AloyΒ΄s adventures.
Cheers, stay home, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
WOW!!! That is AMAZING Thanks SONY Will try ABZU... er erm not that I have time with still a back-log of games that seem to be never ending
Great news, but this couldβve been better if they added more games instead of VR garbage
I don't see any downside to free games!
@Col_McCafferty You can pick up where you left off. I Downloaded complete edition from PS Now recently and could load my launch save from years ago.
Of course after I buy Abzu and Subnautica they pop up for free! Rez and Enter the Gungeon are games I've had on my radar though and haven't had a chance to play yet, so that's cool.
Subnautica is the highlight for me as I already have Horizon ! Will try Abzu too, might add the others but not really my shin dig. Who says that phrase anymore?!
Awesome selection, well done Sony. Not to sound ungrateful but lets hope they add PS5 patch into HZD for 60fps 4k
literally just bought subnautica 3 days ago lmao. Otherwise looks great
Awesome of them to do this, I've got a lot of these games already but the ones that I don't, I'm looking forward to playing them.
Subnautica and Horizon zero dawn complete edition are the highlights for me, reminds me of the humble bundle days
Nothing I'm particularly interested in (that I don't already own, at least), but a nice offer nonetheless.
Man, it would've really paid off to skip the PS4 generation and go straight to PS5.
Hi, do all VR games require VR? I know some can be played without. Thanks.
@get2sammyb
"Four PSVR games will also be made available for free"
Astro Bot Rescue Mission
Moss
Thumper
Paper Beast
You can all thank me for those PSV games, I disconnected my PSVR breakout box today so I could hook up my PS4 directly to my new 4k TV w/ HDR. I know the PS4 Slim doesn't do 4k, but I'm all about that HDR color.
Guess Sony never sold that new breakout out by itself, huh? Trade in would be nice. Oh well, I'll figure out the mish-mashed cable spaghetti eventually, right now I'm trying to figure out ARC. Great in theory, no sound in practice. π
So, will there be a free upgrade to a PS5 version of HZD? Not that there should be, just wondering out loud.π€·ββοΈ
@rjejr I doubt there will be a PS5 version of Horizon. A 60 fps patch would be welcome though.
@stu123 I believe its probably 8 TB. π
@GKO900 I always find it interesting too see people even complain when they get something for free.
That is a great list of games (especially the PSVR group). If you like survival games, subnautica is a blast!
Amazing gifts Thank You Sony PlayStation! Greatness and Beyond...
Awesome news, Astro Bot is a must for VR if you don't have it already and Moss is also excellent. For me however I am most looking forward to Abzu, Rez, Gungeon and Subnautica. Nice one Sony.
@get2sammyb Thought it was strange that the PS4's Store app had a section for Stay Safe at Home (or something similar) and when you went into it, it only listed Ratchet & Clank.
Now we know why and I expect the other titles will appear in there as and when they're released.
Good to see PS players benefiting from MS moves. PS has to react and we end up being the winners!
@Tencho2010 Rez: Infinite and Thumper are playable in 2D or VR as well.
Nice! Can't beat free stuff!
Slightly miffed at myself for picking up HZD:CE in a recent sale, I should have suspected it would be given away soon. These are some stellar games though, so even with the odd poor choice of games purchase, buying a PS5 has been incredible value for money, given I skipped the PS4.
Curious that PSVR games have appeared.
I guess we're still looking at the PSVR2 reveal around May then ?
@Flaming_Kaiser I always find it interesting too see people complain about people not actually complaining and just stating their opinion when they get something for free.
I've been on the fence with Moss for ages now so that solves one problem. Very good initiative to try and keep with Xbox. Keep'em coming, Sony.
That's pretty nice. I don't have any of these.
I already own all the major games on the list, but that's a fantastic list otherwise!
With them giving away HzD now it makes me think FW is coming sooner than later, which would be surprising. It also makes me wonder the likelihood of an HzD "remaster" either being sold or bundled with FW Deluxe. Same as how FF7R, without PS5 update was released free for + before the PS5 update releases. That's the only game getting a near-term sequel that hasn't had a direct upgrade other than Spiderman, which had the controversially priced remaster.
It feels almost painful that after a gen of buying all the games, they're handing them out for free now anyway. OTOH if this were Nintendo they'd be selling them all for $60 and calling them "new".
@Voltan As somebody who hardly owns any Switch games b/c I already own them all on Wii U, I see HZD as one of those games that's just old enough that Sony would want that PS5 box on a store shelf in Walmart, Target et al to help enlarge the PS5 game box section ahead of the HFW release.
It's not about us Sony fans rebuying it again for $70, it's about former Nintendo, MS and non-gamers wanting to buy a new PS5 game for their collection. PS5 has bene out nearly 6 months now, how big is that section in retail stores, a dozen games maybe? HZD in native 4k @ 60fps would move a few boxes. Some people still liking lining their shelves w/ boxes. π€·ββοΈ
If HFW gets an actual release date - none of this "2021" nonsense 3 months into the year - and still no news on HZD Complete Remastered, then I'll believe it isn't happening.
@NEStalgia Should have read your post first. π Also GoW, if 2021 is to be believed. π€£
@SilenceCZ Thanks you, good to know.
@Kalvort
How the heck is this anything to do with xbox? Or game pass. Sony also gave away Uncharted collection, journey and Knack 2 last year as part of their 'Play at home' initiative, to help people isolate during covid. This is the same thing.
I don't own any of these games besides Horizon: Zero Dawn, looking forward to adding them to my library but never touching them haha XD.
