DOOM Eternal will round out its post-launch DLC campaign tomorrow as part two of The Ancient Gods releases on PlayStation 4. Those of you playing on a PS5 will be able to access the DLC via backwards compatibility before the native version arrives at some point in the future, so check out the launch trailer above to get a taste of the hell-raising action. You'll get to ride a dragon. Yes, really.
Multiple new enemies will pose a threat in this second part of the expansion, but you'll also have a new weapon to arm yourself with. DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One was a fantastic extension of the base game that left us wanting more, especially after that ending. Let's hope part two picks up right where id Software left off and delivers another exhilarating DLC. What's very cool is that we don't have to wait long to play it either thanks to that release date of 18th March 2021.
Will you be seeing off the Doom Slayer in this final expansion? Let us know in the comments below.

I'll wait for the PS5 upgrade before playing this again... also I'm probably too weak for the DLC lol
I really enjoyed Doom Eternal but this is just not doing it for me almost has more Painkiller / Serious Sam vibes going on. I think I’ll pass
@Voltan I wouldn't be able to be that disciplined tbh. I can't wait to get stuck into this especially with the recent news and the possibility this may be the last time I play DooM for sometime
Does this expansion mean we’ll be giving our money to Microsoft??
@YETi tbf it's not really about discipline
I took a break from the main game near the end (because FF7 Remake came out) and have been reluctant to jump back in ever since because I know it would be HARD AF to get back to at those hardest levels.
So instead I'm willing to start over but I might as well do it with a better version
@2cents technically, yes
@Voltan I guess stranger things have happened this year
My body is ready!
@2cents Well when The Show comes out on Xbox next month, Xbox players will be giving Sony money. Lol
@Voltan How hard is this Doom? I was tempted but all that talk back around release about some guy with a sword and shield being impossibly difficult kinda put me off
@Welsh_Will It's definitely not easy! it's not impossible but the arena encounters require you to be on the move constantly and use everything at your disposal effectively to survive. There are specific weapons and tactics effective against specific types of enemies and your ammo is often limited.
The game introduces new weapons and tools gradually and I was in a spot where I had them all already so jumping back in there after a few months didn't seem like something I wanted to deal with
I haven't played the DLC but I hear it's even more challenging...
@Welsh_Will the game is definitely hard, but if you trust it and lean onto all the mechanics and tips it gives you, you'll have an awesome time and keep getting noticeably better throughout the campaign!
The DLC is definitely way more brutal, so focus on the campaign at first and don't be ashamed to lower the difficulty if a particular encounter hands you your butt over and over.
Regarding the Marauder (the enemy you mentioned), it's actually funny cause at first everyone hated it, but with the passing of time you can see in Eternal-related content on YT etc. that pretty much everyone who was willing to play the game as intended understood very soon how the Marauder works.
Trust me, after you get the hang of it it's actually one of the easiest enemies in the game, and there are countless guides out there.
Hope it might help you!
@2cents You'll also be giving money to MS for Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo that are timed PS5 exclusives(!). Like you said: stranger things.
In any case, you're always giving money to someone when you buy a game so don't give too much thought on it and just enjoy playing whatever you feel like
@Voltan @clvr Thanks both, you've made it sound similar to Souls difficulty then. I'd heard that marauder guy was just cheap difficult (massive health, massive damage, crazy accurate etc). Might give it a go when it's on sale next
@Welsh_Will you're welcome!
To be fair I'm not really well versed in Soulslike as I only played DS1, but yeah the principles are similar, even if Eternal plays 1000 times faster: listen to the game, watch the animations, and learn. Personally I think Eternal amply exceeds DS1 in this regard.
The Marauder really seems hard at first cause he works a bit differently from the other enemies, but this is a game about learning and adapting so it's not a problem for long.
Once you learn to stay distant to bait out his axe attack, he then charges you and exposes himself. Rinse, repeat.
One thing the game doesn't explain all too clearly is the doggo, though.
It only comes out when the Marauder is hit by a projectile while his shield is up (an enemy projectile works as well), so don't shoot until the eyes flash green.
Trust me, they become a pushover by the end of the campaign 😃
Hope you enjoy it when you get it, by all means let me know how you fare!
Have a good one mate 😃
@Welsh_Will The difficulty of the Marauder comes from the fact that he requires a very specific timing-based approach, which can be difficult if there are other enemies around. He's not spongy at all, quite the opposite actually - he'll die in a few good hits but if they're not timed right, you'll do 0 damage and get punished while at it.
@Welsh_Will
Play doom 2016 if you want a easier intro but to be fair eternal does a great job of introducing you to the mechanics. I play it on normal mode and have completed the first dlc which is harder than the base game.
The game has a learning curve; I hated the platforming and the marauder on my first play through but on the second I was acing all the aspects of the game. Strongly advise watching some YouTube vids.
I will be buying part 2 tomorrow to play Friday and I can’t wait.
@Voltan there’s YouTube vids where the pro’s and speedrunners kill him in 6 seconds. Though pc keyboard makes it easier to quick switch weapons.
Oh, I agree btw - if you haven't played Doom '16, play that first.
This will be the last of doom I suppose, so may as well enjoy it.
I wonder how this will work as a standalone purchase. I have the base game on PC but have yet to pick up the first lot of DLC. I was tempted to get it standalone on PS5. I wonder whether this will be possible with the second set, and whether there will be a way to buy both standalone packs together with a discount.
@LiamCroft: Hey Liam, will there be a Year 2 DLC with more story missions?
I only ask because the Season Pass is named "Year 1", I had assumed this would be the only Season Pass when I first heard about it.
@KidBoruto This second piece of DLC is being pitched as the “end of the Doom Slayer’s story”, so I think this will be the last major expansion. The year 1 stuff is probably more linked to the multiplayer, which never really took off.
