I wonder what they mean by mobile games. I say that being completely aware of where mobile games are and have been for the past decade. I just wonder if they mean something similar to what is or something new.
@ED_209 is it though? Nintendo wants all their DLC and downloadable games validated every few hours on all secondary Switches… it’s a nightmare for my family when we travel.
The biggest challenge for Sony is that it’s going to struggle to communicate the value. Maybe at some point — if they do a good job — people will think of it as “there is something there for everyone and there is plenty” but MS has it easier because their GamePass system leans into the movie-going no-spoilers cultural phenomena of gaming by offering their products on day one. That’s just easier to communicate: sign up and get day one access to (insert list of studios). Sony’s version means people have to look at the full list to see if there is more than 1-2 games on it they want to play and do math to figure out if it’s cheaper to just buy those.
I hope this is the last year of first party cross gen. I don’t think having a 30fps PS4 version and a faster loading shinier 60fps PS5 version is bad. I think the past few years have really hammered home how graphical fidelity is just one part of what can make a great game but it’s not a necessary condition. But i really want to see AAA games pushing the boundaries of the SSD and CPUs. I want to see new level designs and physics and AI and weird concepts that are not achievable (or financially ruinous to do workarounds) on the decade-old weak mobile cpu in the PS4.
Ultimately the products they make are their primary form of communication and that’s been going ok. But I agree with the article because (1) it points out simple, obvious ways they could do better and (2) competition is real now. Microsoft is at the top of their game and their comma strategy is light years better.
It’s great to have choices. I am more likely to shell out for PC Game Pass than upgrade my PS+ to a higher tier. It will really depend though on what kinds of games regularly show on PS+. I have been delighted by what is constantly showing up on Gamepass. I had it over the holiday break and played The Gunk, Unpacking, The Wild at Heart, Forza, Psychonauts, Halo, Age of Empires, and more… it was awesome. If Sony wants to deliver a similar experience than I am all in.
@Balosi the price points are clear but the value proposition is confusing. Let’s say I already have Death Stranding and Spiderman. What am I getting for paying premium? Sounds mostly like a PS Now rebrand with .. some extra stuff? That I might care about?
Bad marketing. You only get a first impression once. I suspect the premium tiers will converge to something competitive with GamePass but I don’t see it in this announcement. GamePass just has a clear intent: all first party games day one plus other good stuff that they rotate. PS+ Premium is some good Sony content that already exists and PS Now and probably some other stuff sometime?
The coop gameplay was a little rough. It was difficult to always work in tandem to ride the flow streams. But the music, the story, the characters were something else. It was a really special game and I’m glad that I was able to play with my significant other
I pay for both PS+ and Switch Online. Getting 2-3 games per month always feels like a better deal even if/when I don’t like a lot of the games offered it still feels a better deal than getting a couple of bad third party NES or SNES titles once a quarter.
Pick 3: Donut County, The Wild at Heart, OnRush, Lost Words, Artful Escape, Forgotten City, Solar Ash, Ender Lillies, Shadow of the Colossus, Toem, Roki, The Touryst, The Pathless, Nex Machina, Metro Exodus, Chicory, Hades, Death’s Door, Erica, Kentucky Route Zero, Sakuna, Sackboy, Scott Pilgrim, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Tetris Effect Connected, Doom Eternal, Life is Strange 2
So busy with other games. I really want HFW, but I still need to finish Death Stranding DC, TOCS 3&4, Last of Us 1, and probably Persona 5R again. And then I need to replay HZD at 60fps. Life is tough! It’s great to be a gamer.
@freddquadros I don’t know rates but I think handing out small indies is generally a better path than half of a AAA game with tons of microtransactions. I got the GamePass trial ($1 for 3 months) and I have been in indie heaven. It’s so nice to just try a short game and find out if I like it with no hesitations.
1. Sony should stay away from NFTs, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrency and other nonsense. 2. Be the champion of indie devs — don’t let Switch and Gamepass and Steam Deck win the indie market. That’s where you get growth and goodwill. 3. Multiplayer and shooters. Have something to compete with Halo. 4. Make fun games that are joyful. More Team Asobo please. 5. You don’t need a Gamepass clone to succeed. It depends what success means.
Played it on GamePass on PC. It’s a very linear title that’s just a touch more than walking simulator in terms of gameplay, but it was delightful and weird. It reminded me a lot of 80s movies like Bill and Ted.
@ED_209 me too. I love short games and indie titles. Wish more https://twitter.com/_wholesomegames were on PS. And I would love Sony to do more to get indie titles in their lineup. Bugsnax was such a win for PS5 day one.
I think it’s quite a challenge. Could be a distraction. I think it won’t matter if Sony at least can deal with its other real issues (1) lack of hardware (2) its relationship with indie devs and (3) GamePass. But VR could become a distinguishing factor. I just really hope it offers pc connectivity. I want Half Life Alyx, etc.
If it is similar or better than the $300 Occulus Quest 2 and can connect to mobile and PCs I think it can be a decent hit. I would probably buy it. I think VR is cool.
That said, I think VR is a big distraction for Sony which imo needs to focus on (1) getting adoption for their existing tech (3d audio, dualsense, os features) and (2) improving their existing PS5/PS+ user experience and less on making games and development for what will certainly be a niche product. It’s not clear to me what it gets Sony.
The whole thing felt like an FMV but wasn’t. This was a great tech demo and the whole Matrix /4th wall breaking is perfect for all the technical imperfections and moments when it was a little uncanny valley. Someone said real games would be scaled back, but I don’t see how they could confidently say that after playing. It had lighting, objects, physics, and player interaction. And few optimizations. Excellent excellent demo. I look forward to the next 5 years of UE5.
Most played is not the same as max hours imo. Astro’s Playroom deserves some spotlight today both on Sony’s blog and here. It was a phenomenal included title.
This is so dumb. Just do for their 1 year old console what Valve is doing for Steam Deck. $5 preorders for those with Playstation accounts. Stop the weird games and timing. Just make a line and give estimates of when they will get one.
Really hope a video game company might have , you know, video game announcements.
Wants: P4G on Consoles please P3 remake P6 trailer and release date Clarity on the rumored p5 game.. put them in college! Digital soundtracks on bandcamp
Didn’t watch the show, but I watched some of the highlights afterwards. It was ok. I think everyone’s 2021 expectations are just still too high. I am looking forward to the Persona 25 celebration.
I’d like to see lots of weird stuff. Indies. Games requiring weird hardware attachments (maracas, power pads, etc). Indies being allowed to mess with PS franchises (HZD turn based?). More 2 player games. Stuff that is over-the-top joyful like Astro — maybe preview Team Asobi’s new thing. Stuff that connects your phone (in-world murder mystery?). Just go nuts. Don’t take everything so seriously. Playstation is a toy.
@get2sammyb part of that observed dissatisfaction is collection bias. Content people generally don’t write comments. They are too busy playing or living the rest of life.
Part of it has to be the fact that the people buying it probably were or would be the most active and engaged Ps4 users. I think there is a collection bias issue. Put another way, what specific about PS5 is making people behave differently?

Re: Gallery: Spot the Difference in The Last of Us: Part I PS5 Screenshots
Nope. I am happy with the free remaster for my PS5. I am glad Naughty Dog is using it as a chance to learn how to work with Ps5 though.
Re: PS Plus June 2022 PS5, PS4 Games Announced
Just want more indies. Use PS+ to support and promote those who need it most. More Bugsnax, Maquette, Concrete Genie.
Re: Rumour: PS Plus Games for June 2022 Might Have Leaked
I want more indies. Support small studios + good value for Sony. I get jealous of all the neat indies on MS Gamepass.

Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for PS5, PS4 in May 2022 Do You Want?
Something with color. If it’s brown, gritty, and hack & slash-y or shooting things.. probably not interested. I want something weird.
Re: Poll: Do Remakes of Old Games Get You Excited?
@Steve30000 how should I play Persona 3?
Re: Poll: Do Remakes of Old Games Get You Excited?
Generally just want devs to make new games and stories and have backward compatibility available that is legal and affordable.

@Th3solution Thanks. I figured there was some risk there. I started with Playstation on the PS5 launch. So many good games.

Re: Sony: PSVR2 Will Offer 'Best in Class' Visuals
If it’s <$400 and works on Pc and PS5 it’s a win.
Yes, the $300 Occulus:Meta Quest headset can play some games but it needs a $80 cord to attach to PC. I think Sony can closely match that.
