Re: Persona 5 Tactica Is Launching This Year, But No Mention of PS5, PS4 Yet

koffing

@turntSNACO From Persona Central “For those who have enjoyed the main game, an additional downloadable content episode will be released! This DLC introduces a highly anticipated character available exclusively in the DLC. Not only will players experience a new story, but they can also enjoy thrilling battles with new rules!”

I’m guessing their highly anticipated character is someone from a Persona game, probably from the P5 universe. I would hope it would be Kasumi. But who knows? If they are going to keep building on P5 it gets increasingly weird to ignore her storyline.

Re: Persona 5 Tactica Launches 17th November, Persona 3 Reload Early 2024

koffing

@rachetmarvel i have a friend who was suicidal and even just watching me play p3 was upsetting to them. I get that’s not everyone, but my friend would like to play p3 and doesn’t feel like the current version will work specifically because of that regular animation. In P5 you mostly can avoid using guns if you choose.

I hope P3RE tones down the gun violence — I mean “evoker” violence. Either way, I will probably buy it.

On P5T, I am frustrated and not really interested. Atlus, just because I love P5R — a turn based RPG — doesn’t mean I also want dancing, fighting, musuo/hack-and-slash, and now tactical games and I think it’s bizarre to drag the characters across so many genres (though I get it from a financial perspective). But — dang it — can I just get P6 or another turn based P5? Maybe send my phantom thieves to college? … And where is Kasumi?!

Re: Rumour: A New Persona 5 Game Announcement Is Imminent

koffing

Put the p5 crew in uni and I am all for it.

I want P6 but with so much success and some of their staff having left they are probably trying to figure out what the next jump is for P6 and are keeping themselves busy with more obvious options.

Oh and I very much appreciate the bad spinoff idea comments and that could easily be an separate article/comment thread.

Re: Alan Wake 2 Thinks It'll Beat Spider-Man to PS5's Best Graphics of 2023 Crown

koffing

I think it would be challenging to beat Horizon BS. But we’ll see! (And for graphics of the year? So far it seems like Cyberpunk RT has that title)

Spiderman 2 looked amazing. I don’t know if I want it, but the graphics even in the livestream were imo more faster, more fluid, and higher quality than MM.

I look forward to the DF review of both.

Re: Feature: PlayStation Showcase Biggest Winners and Losers

koffing

@Sequel i think Foamstars could be fun. In some sense I think some of the design pushes where I think Splatoon 4 will go — more interactivity in the stages, using foam and water to change the level.

My concern is that it looks like a free to play title and it looks kinda generic. I don’t have confidence that it will be special enough to warrant my limited attention/free time. If I had tons of free time and no money I would be more interested.

Re: Rumour: Persona 6 Could Be a Timed PS5 Exclusive in 2024

koffing

I think it’s unlikely we get P6 for another year or two. P5 is hard to top and Katsura Hashino is not directing. P6 is going to be different.

I expect more P5 and remakes for a while. Maybe a teaser this year and then a concert announcement, more merch announcements, and some cameo dlcs in other games.

Re: GTA 6 Publisher Is Anticipating a PS5 Pro

koffing

I think if they want to do a pro, fine. But what feature set is new? This is the first year it seems the 2020 consoles are finally getting first-class games made for what they can do without being hampered by the 2010 systems.

Re: Best Trails Games Ranked: Which Trails Games to Play and Where to Start

koffing

I recommend playing Cold Steel 1 and 2. Then if you are hooked consider Sky else proceed to 3 and 4 knowing you will miss even more references but will still have an enjoyable time.

ToCS 1 and 2. Sky 1 and 2. ToCS 3 and 4. Zero, Azure, Reverie. Repeat (jk).

Exception if you have a Steam Deck or are big into pc gaming then maybe try Sky first. 🤷‍♂️

Re: 900+ PS5, PS4 Games on Offer in New Bumper PS Store Sale

koffing

Dang it! There are so many new interesting games. Too many new interesting games?! Guys I am deep in Witcher 3 now and Tears of the Kingdom just shipped. What am I supposed to do!?

I want Oxenfree, Dorgodone, Dead Space, Plague Tale 2, Signalis, Tchia, Chained Echoes, Cassette Beasts, Teenage Exocolonist, Dredge, etc…

I can’t bring myself to buy games that just I can’t play for months until I get to them. I need time travel. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores?

koffing

The vast majority people don’t care about Aloy’s sexuality. But some percentage of anti-gay activists do and they are the ones doing the reviewing bombing. I think it says more about them and about how the internet gives power to small fringe groups to harass others. Everything is Gamergate. https://deadspin.com/the-future-of-the-culture-wars-is-here-and-its-gamerga-1646145844

You don’t even have to make Aloy go down that path.

Re: Can You Put a Price on a Quality RPG? Yes, and It's Rising All the Time

koffing

It seems pretty clear to me that there are already too many games to be able to raise prices much. Many games (except Nintendo) are 20-50% off within a couple of months of launch. There are constantly huge sales of hundreds or thousands of games. Epic, Sony and others give you free games each week/month. The phrase “backlog” has real meaning for a lot of gamers. I think the market has room to grow but for the individual supply outstrips demand.

So… yeah sure publishers can charge … some “insane” amount like $120 for an amazing game at launch just like they already offer $300 collector editions with knick-knacks, but the baseline price would drop to $50-60 within a few weeks and most people would pick it up for far less.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores?

koffing

Just started Burning Shores. Enjoying it. It’s beautiful. The story is beautiful. So far easily worth $20 but dang I need to play some smaller games this year. Zelda is up next. Gulp.

Oh and There are clearly some bugs to work out. Seyka got stuck/frozen at one point and I had to reset. Camera mode sometimes doesn’t let me move the camera.

Re: U.S. Senator Says Sony Has 'Monopoly' on High-End Japanese Game Market

koffing

The implication in the article and the follow up in the comments all suggest that this Senator is corrupt. PushSquare, if you believe that just say it.

I don’t know her. I’d have to look at her voting record and all the conversations surrounding this topic rather than a single soundbite to have a real opinion on whether she has “been bought.”

That said, I wish Sony could just stop caring about losing Call of Duty.

Re: PSVR2 to Receive Renewed Competition from Meta Quest 3 This Year

koffing

With Carmack leaving it’s pretty clear that Meta is going for a premium experience versus a cheaper more accessible one. That approach will limit who uses it.

VR and AR are interesting but they lack killer apps and the interaction model is too complex.

On AR: think the movie Her is probably the best depiction of an AR future where we converse with an AI using natural language which is close to the ChatGPT + AirPods tech that is already present.

On VR: I think people to-date have preferred just putting more screens everywhere (in cars, in pockets, tablets, on wrists, on fridges) than walking around with one strapped to our faces. I think games are driving some adoption here and there is a dedicated fanbase that is funding the tech year after year so maybe it will grow, but I am still not seeing the necessary tech to do it well which would need 8k microled screens and even more power efficient chipsets. VR needs a Nintendo Wii like moment.

I am most interested to see what Apple is going to bring to the table here but I suspect even if they have amazing hardware there still won’t be a killer app. Apple doesn’t really care about games and I am not going to pay $500-1000 for a personal AppleTV movie theater or an Apple Maps driving directions experience.

And oh Meta, I have no interest in your corporate virtual business meeting dystopia.
