I’ve bought 3 copies of P5R so yeah.. not surprised.
I am open to more P5 but Strikers was a little hollow and I got a lot more from Metaphor.
I want another Persona game that tells a different story. That could be P5 cast in college struggling with being adults. But likely it’s a new coming-of-age story as Persona is about new beginnings.
Sony isn’t a good company. They screwed up by focusing on online games. They lost all the Kpop Demon Hunter profits.
But the bar is quite low. So they’re still ahead of Microsoft and they haven’t been bought out by the Saudis. And they haven’t fired or lost all their talent. And they still release good games.
All excellent choices but a lot of Playstation players are big on brooding souls-like titles or moody action rpgs where you revenge your brother’s killer.
This is a month with a comic-y platformer, THE cozy farming game (which if you like these kinds of games you probably already own), and a puzzle game. So yeah, perfect for me. I got enough drama, I need lolz.
@dancingstar93 yeah, that’s my fear too. I don’t see how it happens. I’m hoping that, like FF7 Remake, this brings more people in. But I am going to always want the OG.
Thank you for this article. I have no problem with Sony buying studios who are doing live service well or building new studios for live service but I don’t understand why you’d make your star players change direction. And I still don’t get the Bungie purchase.
If I understand https://www.playstation.com/en-se/legal/ecodesign/ rest mode costs Ps5 users in the US around $4/year. That’s not nothing when we think of all the Ps5s but it’s a fraction of a 60w-equivalent LED lightbulb. I wish the article did something to inform people vice just polling for engagement.
MATH
1.2W in Rest mode
10.5 kWh per year (1.2/hour x 24 hours/day x 365 days/year)
$4 ($0.4/kWH in Hawaii our most expensive state for electricity x 10.5kWh).
Cozy games especially have this problem. They look nice maybe they have a good story and some attention grabbing gimmicks that get press coverage but they’re just not enjoyable to play. They get rushed to market before they are ready. The traversal and menus suck. The game can be a slog. They can be shallow or can trick customers into thinking they’re more game than walking simulator (not knocking that genre! I love a good visual novel but if you don’t like it, it can feel like a mean trick.) They just lack attention to player experience.
Stardew is not that. Stardew’s graphics are honest. Stardew has depth. This is an indie game, just polished and iterated and revised over and over again for the past decade. And it’s that labor of love that makes it unique. Oh and it regularly drops to $8-10 for 50-100 hours of playtime easy which makes it an easy recommend. If you like farming games, you’ll probably like Stardew.
They should probably acquire a new successful live service game company versus trying to turn their existing studios into making live service offerings.
I kind think Playstation owns the premium home console space. I think the biggest competition is moving to portable spaces (handheld Steam decks, Switch, Xbox, phone/tablet)
So they should go into that space more, but I am not sure if they should make their own mobile hardware.
Old Aloy looks like she had a hard life which vibes with the story and setting.
New Aloy, which —sure— is way better from a technical perspective, looks like they are prepping for movie and tv deals. She looks like she’s got a hair and makeup support team. I find that weird and mildly off-putting but I guess you gotta look your best when fighting hordes of dino robots!
The only reason I wouldn’t if there are serious performance issues. I currently get 60fps on my PS5. Give me a 60fps performance mode and a 40fps balanced on the regular PS5 and we’re cool.
If games just tracked with inflation we would be paying $100+ a game but we avoided that because the gaming audience grew a ton over the past few decades.
👉🏾 That market expansion is over.
And now publishers are put in a position where games cost more but they can’t charge more.
This is a big issue and there is no obvious solution.
It’s both wonderful and terrible as I get low prices 😊 and watch in horror as amazing talent get shuttered and treated like garbage 😥.
Atlas is trying to make a third series to go with SMT and Persona so it’s not shocking to me that they’re trying to earn trust with whoever is on the fence ahead of launch of a new product — especially since publishers are obsessed with preorder numbers. This was also obviously an expensive game so probably also their biggest gamble yet.
Ultimately if PushSquare wants they could just not make an article for each new piece of media that goes live but my guess is they’re getting a good click through rate and engagement numbers.
Very cool. Would have been even better as an actual surprise. Unfortunately the Atlus sales and marketing team got ahold of it. And then Push Square of course spoils it pretending they’re not spoiling it with the headline ad “you won’t see this coming” and the thumbnail absolutely showing you the entire spoiler. No words.
This month is fine. Nothing I am excited about but a good selection. I wish PS would redo some of their polls to be less hyperbolic “it’s a crap selection” just encourages more entitlement and negativity that we just don’t need.
Having played almost all of them now… I think starting with Sky 1, Cold Steel 1, or Zero are all good options. No need to overcomplicate it.
Starting earlier in the timeline, yes, means you get more of the references and lore and the gameplay systems are simpler, but I don’t think it matters. If you love Trails you’ll probably find yourself playing them again just like rereading a favorite book.
Btw so far Sky 1 was my favorite for story/characters.
@Porco they overestimated consumer interest. They can barely get people to buy 4k content or HDR. Most people not gonna pay $500 to have a screen on their face just for “presence” when it feels bad and makes them look stupid.
Yeah if PC keeps getting the better version… I think it’s the other way around.
I got a PS5 but what games would I have to get for a PS6? Apparently Microsoft is going multiplat and Sony is going PC after a year. Seems like a gaming pc and a Switch are all you need to play most games now.

Re: You Can Buy a Fully-Fledged PS5 for the Same Price as a Less Powerful Xbox Series S Right Now
Is anyone talking about Microsoft selling off Xbox?
I don’t think they’re gonna hit a 30% profit margin… This reminds of Google’s push for gaming.

Main hope is we get it this decade. Now that Metaphor is out, time to get to work on P6!

Re: 'There's No Real Need for a PS6': Industry Veteran Weighs in on Next-Gen Debate
System cost needs to drop before we should have a new one.
A $600 PS6 is nuts but a $550 PS5 that is five years old is also nuts. Maybe moreso.

Re: The 'Dark Souls of Climbing' Cairn Ascends PS5 in 2025
I feel guilty not being excited but I need a sequel to Haven. It was so good.
Also Jusant was and is amazing and I don’t know if I want any more climbing games other than those made by Don’t Nod. Total stunner on PS5.

Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers' 20 Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2025
For Playstation specifically, I look forward to Sony exclusives.
But third party I’m looking forward to Trails in the Sky First Chapter, Trails through Daybreak 2, and the next game in Trails (Kai no Kiseki).
Oh and whatever Atlus does with Persona (P5X?).
