I love the game even though I haven't played it yet.
@HotGoomba Congratulations, you’re eligible to write a review for a Sony exclusive.
Its truly amazing. Looks amazing, no load times. Alot better than other games you guys gave 10s to imo.
I dont trust review sites anymore that gave TLOU Part 2 a 10 anyway, like you Push Square. But im not against you guys making money...
I Platinumed it in 19 hours, but there is no option for between 15 and 20 hours.
@HotGoomba @nessisonett Welcome to the team
There were a few loose ends and a few visual glitches which held it back for me but overall it was a really great experience and the game played and looked amazing. Currently about 25 hours in and im now starting NG+ on the hardest difficulty to finish upgrading all of the omega weapons.
@katamariUK Whoops, sorry, that should be fixed now!
7/10 for me. It's a consistently enjoyable game that never tries to be anything more than "fine".
7/10 as well. Too short for a premium priced game, and the platinum is a joke. Collect 5 gold bolts, fully upgrade a weapon, ... really? I really enjoyed my time with it and it looks and plays amazing, but it's over far too soon.
8 for me.
There are times when it's quite breath taking.
On a Push Square scale, it’s an easy 8, I would possibly go for a 9. Think I clocked in at 21 hours to finish everything. Really enjoyed the time I had with it. Great fun from start to finish.
I would agree with Push Square & give it an 8, I have never played any other R&C games so this was my first and thoroughly enjoyed it (apart from flying Trudi - that was terrible IMO).
The length of the game doesn't bother me in the slightest (in fact I think it's about right) so it's right up there with a 9 for me. Not genre-defining perfection/innovation but a spectacularly bombastic example that I loved every second of.
7/10 from me, was a great enjoyable experience, but after buying digital and playing for around 15 hours to platinum I wish I had bought it on disc so I could sell it on🤔
@LiamCroft All down to opinions but I reckon you're being a bit disingenuous there, mate.
@mrtennis1990 You'll love it and hopefully soon !
i never played it , but if its not like r&c 1 , 2, 3 & deadlocked , then meh.
Really enjoying this. Yes it's not going to break any records for innovation but it's a really solid game that looks amazing and plays really well. Sometimes that's what you want.
A solid 8/10 for me.
Graphically outstanding but nothing that sets the genre alight in terms of action platforming.
Still one of the best PS5 exclusives available though.
"Outstanding" for sure. Graphics+Gameplay (it is 2021, publishers need to do both) are top quality.
And then Fluidity puts it over the top. Felt like playing on my PC - stunning but also rock solid (even in the bonkers ending the PS5 crushed it)
20+ hrs for me... but more important, tons of fun - A must play.
8. I agreed with Sammy, it's a "perfect" game — in regards to R&C games. New weapons, new adventures, next-gen graphics, utilizes next-gen hardware ... But for me, feels like an extension of 2016 R&C...which is not a bad thing either. I just don't feel the "newness" of a new experience such as Returnal, so I wasn't as hooked into this game.
I haven’t played Rift Apart, I’ve only played the 2016 reboot. R&C 2016 was my first R&C and I just started playing it when it got the PS5 60fps update. It had the intended effect and made me add Rift Apart to my wishlist. I’m waiting for a price reduction before I pull the trigger.
I can do $60 for a new game but $70 sounds more expensive than it is, even though it’s just a $10 difference. Not to say I won’t buy a $70 game in the future but I need time for the price change to marinate. Ideally it’ll have the benefit of playing it fully patched up by then.
Quality game but the bosses definitely need more creativity rather than just running in a circle firing and more challenging.
Haven't played it and won't do until it's £40 or so.
9 for me it’s a great game but I think it was missing a few key characters that should have been included in the story and although the return of arena was welcome it was the most boring one for me
I can’t really fault much else with it
I loved it at first, but it had worn pretty thin by the end. I settled on a 7 for the poll, but it hovers around an 8 for me.
I haven’t played it (no PS5) but I’m a HUGE fan of the series. I’ve read a lot of reviews online for Rift Apart and it sounds like just another R&C game... which is great because I love them all - but I also know as a fan that they have gradually been getting more and more ‘dumbed down’ over the years to appeal to a younger audience. Characters are just too nice/inoffensive and villains/jokes toned down and over used. The scale of their most recent adventures feels much smaller too, with characters (or the galaxy) rarely in any real peril. They need to bring back some of the grit that made the original games so popular. Gold bolts and Rhino parts just sitting out in the open for the most part etc is another example I forgot to mention.
But it’s still Ratchet & Clank - even if it has been simplified and defanged.
I don’t think they’ll ever top R&C2 on the PS2. That game had the best story, best characters, best weapons and loads of twists and turns in the plot to keep you guessing.
Still looking forward to playing Rift Apart - first game I’ll play when I get a PS5 - but I’m not expecting anything groundbreaking (other than the visuals).
Gave it an 8. I feel Ratchet and Clank games have a ceiling of a 9 to them. Amazing game, but too many bugs, and a tad too short brings it down to an 8.
@Deadhunter Was it the general gameplay mechanics that wore thin and did you feel the same way about previous R&C games?
@ShogunRok "that should be fixed now"
45 minutes later, refreshed a few times, still no 15-19 hour bracket.
How many hours have you spent playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart?
Over 20 hours
Between 10 and 15 hours
Between 5 and 10 hours
Under 5 hours
I haven't played Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
I’ve only played about an hour and a half of it on my PS4 through Share Play. I really enjoyed it and didn’t want to stop playing.
I'd say a 7 sounds about right to me. I thought it was a good game.
Great game. Got the platinum in 23 hours, The thing is I'm more inclined to replay shorter experiences like this which will ramp up the hours played than jump back into a 100+ hour game!
From a technical standpoint it's a clear 10/10. For me the gameplay and fun is also a 10 but I'm a Ratched fan since the remakes on PS3.
I love everything about it and as a long time fan of this series this is my favourite game so far. An easy 9 from me.
@RBMango A six in my opinion is not ok because a test score is not a matter of if a person/reviewer likes the game or not but you have to consider the technical quality, the gameplay, the artstyle, etc...so everything under an 8 is like saying the godfather 2 is an average movie. You might not like it but as a reviewer you have to admit it's a great one.
10/10. 20+ hours.
@Salt_AU Dang you got ripped off! Where did you pay $125 for it at?
Bought it yesterday and played around 2 hours. What an amazing graphics.. Curious how the rest of the game is..
Removed - unconstructive
From a graphical & performance standpoint it is jaw dropping & the way they are doing RT + Performance is really setting a standard.
From a longtime fan of the series though, I give it a solid 8/10. The story felt a little on the short side and seemed more Pixar-esque like the 2016 movie tie-in (as opposed to A Crack in Time/Nexus), there was a limited amount of planets (some even revisited), no skill points, no Insmoniac Museum, lack of real challenge in the battleplex (i.e. survive 100 rounds), no races, flying sections were “meh” considering we could fly across space prior. Just minor nitpicks but I still thoroughly enjoyed Rift Apart & am happy we still have the series today
I'm a jaded old gamer with not all that much time to play games. But I'm loving it. It's just fun. No frustrating parts. I'm just properly geeking out at the visuals and it's making me very excited for the next PS5 big hitters.
@djdizzy Some was gameplay related. It would have gone a long way to have Ratchet and Rivet play a little differently. But I think mostly it was the story. It doesn't really go any interesting places after the set up, and I found myself ready for it to be over a few hours before it was. I found the last couple of levels and bosses to be a drag. I only needed a few cleanup trophies for the Plat and couldn't really be bothered. I found the movie tie in and A Crack in Time to be better paced. (I didn't care for Into the Nexus or All4One.)
8 for me. Was an awesome experience and one of the best looking titles I've ever played!
Im nearing the end of the game and really enjoying it. I voted 8, but i agree with the negative points Sammy highlighted in his review.
I also think Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time had the edge, although that is possibly as i was newer to the series then.
As it is, Rift Apart is excellent, but doesnt do anything to massively differentiate it from its predecessor's
My first playthrough was 21 hours. Easily the chunkiest Ratchet yet, so I'm not sure about comments saying it's short. Midway through Chaenge mode now. Great stuff.
9 out of 10 to one of the best series in video games.word up son
A 9. I'd go as far as a 9.2 or .3 if it was an option. I have personally found some bugs and glitches, getting stuck in places and so on but that's really only because I'm weirdo who tries to break games and get to places you might not be meant to, otherwise I'd really consider a 10.
I gave it a 10/10 on my instagram and I don't regret it one bit. Awesome game!
As someone that has played every single Ratchet and Clank game and had Tools of Destruction as my favorite in the series...
...and I'm about 8-10 hours in...
...I feel it's going to be a 10/10 for me and my new favorite in the series. BUT we'll see once I finish the game, but I'm having a damn good time with it.
I’ve played and enjoyed the recent PS4 Ratchet & Clank. I’ll get Rift Apart when it’s cheaper. Are the PS3 games worth investigating?
I really enjoyed it, platted it, but I agree with the review here. It does what it does very well, but what it does is kinda standard and over familiar.
Not nearly enough content for a $70 price tag. It felt about as long as Into the Nexus did... which had a reduced price upon release.
It looks great, but there's just not enough to it.
6/10.
@LiamCroft Totally agree. The game is fine. Not great. Not bad. Fine.
Great game, it took me about 10 hours to platinum. Visuals were near perfect, story was ok, but gameplay was repetitive. Not a game I'd replay due to already finished it 100%. Overpriced.
A definite 9 ,sure its gameplay doesn't deviate from other ratchet games but it doesn't need to, also my god what a looker and the implementation of the ps5 pad is genius ,superb game
I'm giving it an 9 out 10. Although I wanted to give an 8,5 but the game blew me away on the big LG screen and it's not that short if you collect stuff. The rifts were awesome but the R&C characters overall weren't better than previous games and if you have to pay it full price, that's gonna be a negative.
Off-topic: Hope to see a free PS5 upgrade soon & maybe they are going to do it like Spider-man. A Remastered Edtion + short DLC Ghost of Ikishima game for a fair price.
Finished and obtained the Platinum today in 24 hours.Easily a 9/10 for me!
Been a fan of Ratchet And Clank since the start and never been dissapointed. This game is fantastic and a real looker for the PS5!
I give it a 9 only because it's too short. I love the game.
Great game with stunning visual,no load times and a strong gameplay loop with excellent pacing that always made me say "just one more section" to myself at 2:00am in the morning. The only criticism I could give was for the money £70 it was a little on the shorter side only taking me 19 hours to platinum. Think the game could of perhaps done with 1 more planet to take it up to the 20 hour pluse mark to platinum. I would give it a 9/10, 100% recommend even at the full £70.
Easily the best game I've seen, and alot of fun too. I did get a couple of bugs though, my favourite being the final boss getting stuck in an archway & stopped attacking.
Top game though!
I'd give it an 8/10. It's a solid game, and very well polished to perfection in the areas the series has already excelled at for years. It's a bit short and simple for a game with such a hefty price tag, but I'm willing to bet this is more down to Sony wanting a headlining platformer to showcase on the PS5 - and it does this much as the game looks and plays mostly like a dream.
The issues for me are in the writing and direction. Never before has the franchise felt so de-fanged. There used to be a real edge and grit to Ratchet and it's sadly fallen by the wayside. This is arguably true of quite a few of the newer games, but Tools of Destruction was able to hide it behind the innovative jump to PS3, and A Crack in Time behind some truly innovative story telling. Rift Apart doesn't have that to help it out. It looks stunning, but it doesn't do anything to innovate. It plays well, but on little over half of the planets that you used to get. By the time you get to the sense it's humour and wit has been neutered too, there is something worrying 'generic platformer' creeping in about it all. Little is actually done with the universe-bending premise once it's presented very early in the game, if anything it ends up leading to a somewhat patchy and ambling story that is more likely to go for traditional schmaltz than trademark snark. Even Nefarious doesn't get that much of a chance to shine, and the script doesn't afford him a shred of the humour he used to get.
This isn't a bad game by any stretch of the definition, but the issues with it are... pronounced? It leaves it feeling a bit superfluous compared to entries before it. For the next one, above all else I'd try to give it some fangs again. If you're not going to reinvent the wheel (which is fair when you've near perfected it) then at least give it some of that old edge that used to make the games stand out as so enticing.
10/10 for me. My favorite PS5 game and as far as the series goes I'd put this up there with the PS2 trilogy and ahead of the 2016 remake (which I'm also a big fan of) and the PS3 games.
An absolutely beautiful game that plays so seemlessly. This is how video games should be made. 10/10
Solid enough and polished as a expected from a R&C game. I found a lot of the weapons disappointing and samey in comparison to previous games. Even the Ryno was a bit meh.
@Salt_AU Gotcha! So normal priced Sony game.
Review numbers are by and large irrelevant, and completely arbitrary, but my god this game is great. Innovative, fast, gorgeous. The music and sound design are fantastic as well.
I'm super biased because platformers are my number 1, but I'd give it a solid 9. I was constantly in awe and didn't really have any moments where I was bored even when getting the platinum. I'll save my reasons for it not being a 10 to not spoil it for others.
Most fun I’ve had playing video games in a long time. 10/10 for me. Almost near the end of first play through and am already itching to do another. I rarely go for the 100%, I’m usually perfectly content with a single rip through and moving on to the next game. Since I’m new to PS, this will likely be my first Platinum as well.
Random question, but are mandatory loading screens usually counted within the 'total time to complete a game' or just the time actually spent playing?
I wonder if the lack of loading on ps5 will make all games appear shorter.
7/10 for me!
I enjoyed it: graphics were stellar, gameplay tight for the most part. Really liked the use of the adaptive triggers for the weapons BUT felt it was too short. I 100%ed it within 10hrs. Felt like I was just getting started and then it ended.
Plus, being a totally biased original ps2 Ratchet fan I just felt the story as a whole was lacking with not much character development.
I know the franchise has gone in a different direction tonally since the ps3 games to more of a heroes tale rather than satire of commercialism, but the latter is what made R&C so unique to me!
If there were a few more twists and turns with Nefarious and more time spent fighting alongside the resistance members that you only really see once (really wanted to hang more with alternate Skidd McMarxs and Quantum), I probably would have liked it a bit more.
Clear 8 for me. I love it, but it’s no crack in time.
It feels a little bit short to me and missing something, which would make it a 9, but then you just can’t ignore the glitches and crashes.
Still, one of the best games I’ve played in a long while, just short of perfect.
@Perryg92 That's pretty much exactly how I feel. It looks amazing and it's fun to play, but the writing couldn't be more bland and safe. The terrific voice-acting carries the story as far as I'm concerned. I really miss the edge that the original trilogy and Deadlocked had.
@The_New_Butler Yeah I'm totally in that group. Currently holding firm on my no new games for 70 bucks policy.
If it wasn't for a few bugs (a couple that have involved a 'restart checkpoint') it'd be a solid 10/10 for me. It's visually amazing, well written and animated, the control implementation is fantastic, and above all it's just really good fun!
9/10. Exciting and fun with a great storyline and top-notch voice acting. Fits nicely into the R&C series. Graphically mind-blowing. This game feels like an evolutionary step forward.
