Re: Going Platinum #1: Rocket League

Westernwolf4

Cool feature! I am not an active trophy hunter, and I don’t have a lot of plats compared to many, but trophies are great.

-They are a cool diary of stuff you did in a game.

-They sometimes suggest fun ways to play a game you don’t initially think of.

-They are totally optional, and notifications for them can be turned off if folks don’t like them.

Great system!

Re: Poll: Five Years of PS5 - How Would You Rate Sony's Console?

Westernwolf4

PS5 is a great console and I have had a blast the whole generation. What I wanted out of a new PS5 was great games to play on it and significantly reduced loading times, and I got both!

The common theme around this generation for many is the lack of exclusives, which is a sentiment I get but just don't share. When a fantastic game like Ghost of Yotei or GOW Ragnarok comes along, I rejoice like everyone else. But I have more great games to play than I can shake a stick at, and my backlog is huge. If they stopped developing games right now, I would not be able to get through all the ones I want to play that exist right now in my lifetime. I am simply not hurting for games, and I don't really care if they are exclusive or first party or not.

I have had a lot of fun this generation, and gotten tons of use out of my PS5. That is all that matters to me.

Re: PS5 Fans Say Ghost of Yotei Plays Better, But Can't Match Ghost of Tsushima's Story or Hero

Westernwolf4

I loved both games, but I thought Atsu was a great protagonist and the well worn revenge story was actually nuanced and well told. Jin and the first Ghost were great too, but I think the lead and story of Yotei are being a little undervalued by many. Both were fantastic.

Yotei was able to include a few nice nods to Jin and the original Ghost, which I was really glad to see.

I think a lot of this disparity is because the idea of a person grappling with the contours of a long held moral code is more interesting than the revenge tale we have all seen thousands of times on the surface. But I think Yotei told it really well and made a great character in Atsu.

I am still enjoying Outer Worlds 2. It is not a classic or anything, but it improves upon the first game a good bit (and I enjoyed the first one too).

There has been a stupid virus working its way through my family one by one since Halloween, and it is finally my turn. Bad news: I feel lousy. Good news: everyone else is over it and healthy, and I will have plenty of time for gaming during recovery!

@Carnage Re: Yotei late game bosses. Friendly advice, if you want it:

I thought there was a jump in difficulty in the late game bosses and a side boss. Don’t forget to use the triangle/circle special moves! It interrupts whatever each boss is doing!

Once I remembered to use these, those fights were a lot easier.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing The Outer Worlds 2?

Westernwolf4

I am hopefully going to start tomorrow! I just have one more trophy to platinum Yotei (the most difficult side boss, avoiding spoilers!), and then it is on to Outer Worlds.

I don't platinum games very often, but I like Ghost of Yotei so much that I want to do everything. Great game. Although, I am stuck on this side boss, so maybe I won't get this plat either!

I am looking forward to Worlds. Enjoyed the first one.

Re: Ghost of Yotei Continues to Iron Out Its Minor Flaws with PS5 Patch

Westernwolf4

I am 50 hours in and have encountered exactly one bug. I completed a mission and when I expected a cutscene, the scene flickered and I was at the bottom of a hill. I rode back to the npc and was able to get the cutscene, but I noticed every single one of my resources were gone, and I could not pick up anything. I simply restarted the game and it fixed everything-it returned me to the start of the cutscene with all my stuff intact.

It was a very strange bug, but easy to fix, and so far the only one.

Re: Talking Point: PS6 In 2027 - How Do You Feel About Sony's Next-Gen Console?

Westernwolf4

1.I will get it at launch or close to launch. This is a big hobby for me, and I like having the new machine.

2.I am not super eager for it-if Sony said 2028 or 2029, I wouldn’t be bummed.

3.I think we have reached a point of diminishing returns with consoles generally. I don’t really expect any more graphics leaps or anything similar for a long time. So I think we will have to settle for tweaks and quality of life improvements. Which are great! The reduced loading times for PS5 have been wonderful for example.

4.I have seen a lot of disappointment around this generation all over the internet. I get it. Long development cycles etc. mean fewer exclusives. But I have to say, I am having a blast with this generation. I have more great games to play than I can possibly get to. Ghost of Yotei is just the latest in a great five years.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Ghost of Yotei?

Westernwolf4

9 for me. Excellent game.

Those giving it an abysmal are entitled to their own opinion, but I wonder what games they are playing. It isn’t broken. It isn’t buggy. It mainly succeeds in what it sets out to do.

It is fine to not like a game, or not be a fan of a particular game. But it is possible to not be a fan of something and recognize the quality of it. In no way is this an abysmal game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 601

Westernwolf4

I am playing Ghost of Yotei. I had a rare day off from work that happened to fall on release day, so I have put a good chunk of time in.

Simply put: the game is fantastic. Sucker Punch nailed it. The fun Ghost formula, improved and refined in all the right ways.

I am going to make breakfast and go play some more!

Re: Talking Point: Are You Getting Sick of Sony's Supposedly 'Samey' Approach to Story Telling?

Westernwolf4

I do not agree with the premise of the IGN article. What I am getting sick of is game writers recycling this same chestnut every time PlayStation releases a first party game for the last few years for clicks (not referring to Push Square and today’s article-it is an interesting discussion to have as a community!).

If people are tired of stories with common themes in stories in all media and entertainment like the cycle of violence and revenge, then they can feel free to skip these games, but they are in for a lot of disappointment since basically every story in our society is based on the same handful of human nature concepts.

These games are well executed examples of stories that are commonly told everywhere. Well executed being the operative phrase. The IGN author even writes he enjoyed playing the game-the PS has no original games angle is just tried and true commentary that you can bet we will see during the next PS Studios release too.

@twitchtvpat

1.Glad you are among those who enjoyed it. Hope they work great for you.

2.I am well aware of what these presentations entail. You know the focus is usually games right? I mean, I saw a lot about speakers and GOW controllers in all the predictions threads. People were just crossing their fingers for that next revolution in sound.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 597

Westernwolf4

I really hope Mr. Croft is enjoying Ghost of Yotei-my most anticipated game of the year!

I finished RoboCop Rogue City: Unfinished Business-it was extremely fun. Basically more Rogue City, and I mean that as praise. More Rogue City is exactly what I was hoping for!

This morning, I started Lost in Random: The Eternal Die. It is a sequel very unlike the game that came before it. Lost in Random was a charming, short adventure game focused on atmosphere (it was like playing a Tim Burton movie) and story. The combat system was fun but pretty slight. The sequel is a rogue-lite, completely focused on combat and almost no story.

I was nervous about this change, but so far I am finding the combat slick and addicting. The first few hours are very enjoyable. Have a good weekend everyone!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 595

Westernwolf4

@naruball Good morning. If you have not played any of those, you are in for a big treat. They are all great games!

I think I have the preferred order switched from most people. I think Pyre is their best game. I think most would go with Transistor or Hades as their best.

I think it really depends on what you like in a game, because until Hades II, Supergiant set out to explore different types of games every time on purpose. Each game has outstanding music and story and is well crafted, but they are going for different things. Bastion is the first and has their most straightforward gameplay, but maybe has their most intriguing story. Transistor is really focused on atmosphere, with the main mechanic being fights you can plan in advance, and then hit a button and watch your entire strategy be executed-it is a really satisfying system. Pyre is a sports game, with a made up mythical sport that is like a cross between soccer and basketball with magic powers as the main mechanic. It is really fun. But, like Hades, when you win or lose the narrative gets pushed forward, as the games are for high stakes and part of an overall quest. It is a wonderful tale about the importance of teamwork and friendship in a harsh world. And, I think it has their best music (each team you play has its own theme!).

I hope this was a little helpful. You really can’t go wrong-SG really puts out fantastic games. Enjoy!

Re: PS5 Price Increases Confirmed for USA, Effective 21st August

Westernwolf4

My current government, which I voted in opposition of, is absurd, and this is just another example. Prices rising and economic turmoil for nothing but stupid reasons.

I knew I should have gotten a second PS5 while I had the lower priced chance-I just waited too long. My launch PS5 isn’t going to last forever.

Re: New Dying Light 2 PS5, PS4 Patch Has Completely Changed the Game

Westernwolf4

I loved Dying Light. I found the gameplay loop in 2 highly annoying for a lot of different reasons, and dropped it about half way through the story.

I am glad they are tinkering with it, as it certainly needs improvement. But I am certainly not going back. Already too many good games to play, and not enough time.
