Platinum Trophy #12: Burly Men At Sea
Date Earned: 30th November 2018
Dopamine Index:
This instalment of Going Platinum is going to be a shorter one for a few reasons, but maybe that's quite fitting for a shorter game.
Burly Men At Sea can be platinumed in an afternoon if you aren't hanging about, but that's not to say this is one of those rubbish games purpose built to get you Trophies as fast as possible.
No, this is a proper game, albeit a little one, and very enjoyable it is too.
It's a sort of point and click adventure game, but instead of solving obtuse puzzles, you're simply spinning a yarn.

The game has a branching narrative that leads to numerous endings, and because of its short duration, seeing everything isn't a chore. In fact, it's well worth exploring every possible story.
That's because, not only is that basically the extent of the Trophy list — getting to specific endings and story moments — each tale is charming, often funny, and just quite pleasant.
This is about as easy-breezy as games can be, and if you're in the mood for something light, it comes highly recommended. The silly situations the trio of beardy sailors get into are great, and the lovely storybook visuals are simple but effective.
Cheers, Burly Men at Sea.
Oh, and happy Valentine's Day.

An amusing game but I didn't take any joy in the platinum on this one. When it's this easy, it does feel rather pointless.
I guess making a platinum trophy fun and enjoyable to obtain is a skill in itself.
I have its plat, but to this day just remembering this journey to grind that plat gives me only the worst memories. What a miserable game
I have the platinum and don’t remember a thing about it 🤣 finally got my on the beach platinum today 102 hours I think I know every inch of Australia now
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk nice work bro. You beat me easily I was over 150 😆. I left my platinum trophy to be the dollman dance.. so cool 🤪
Love this one. Got the platinum but I decided to spread my playthroughs out, which maybe avoided the grind others have mentioned
@GamingGod I wish I thought of that 🤣 I’ve got my PlayStation to record a 30 second clip when I drop a plat. I think I’ll still jump back in from time to time to do the odd delivery and listen to the fantastic soundtrack. What you playing now? I’m thinking of getting the new Doom game while it’s on sale
This is by far my fastest Platinum, which is the main thing I remember about it!
It is absolutely amusing and charming. I think it was a PS Plus game too?
I bought Jazzpunk for four dollars in the current indie sale because of your last Going Platinum article. Cheers.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk ha I didn’t know you could change the amount of time they record for I’m going to look into that as I always upload the platinum unlock video to my YouTube! My current platinum runs (I always run 2 on ps5 so I don’t get too bored) are Diablo4 and Roadcraft both of which I’m enjoying a lot. But since DS2 I’ve also done The order 1886/ Tales from the borderlands/ Horizon forbidden west and Lego horizons. So apart from Diablo and Roadcraft my list is 100% complete. Ah Doom looks quality mate! I’m looking forward to Marathon for my FPS fix and platinum run naturally
@Stevemalkpus nice! I actually grabbed this for PS4 and Vita from a sale a few weeks ago for £2.49 or something similar. I’m going to do it on my Vita I think
@Westernwolf4 I think you’re right about PS Plus, I’d forgotten that, that’s probably why I played it!
@Stevemalkpus That’s brilliant, hope you enjoy it!
@GamingGod The Order was my first ever platinum, I really enjoyed it and thought a sequel would have fixed a lot that was wrong with it. I thought the world and premise were outstanding. Tales from the boarderlands was the best story they’ve done in the franchise. Got 14 platinums last year and on the beach is my 2nd this year after thank goodness your here..Got less than 2 weeks for RE9 so might see if there’s a small game I can squeeze in beforehand. Will be starting my replay of split fiction with my son soon. Happy gaming 👍🏻
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk mate I love the order. The fact it never got a sequel grates a lot! Still looks amazing even today. So far ahead of time graphics wise. Ray tracing before ray tracing was a thing lol. TFTB is brilliant and absolutely hilarious at points! RE9 looks insane man. Seeing Leon walk back into the RCPD gave me massive chills in the state of play 😆. I’m down for some split fiction as well. Me and the Mrs loved a way out. And I’ve recently co-op’d Lego Horizons with my daughter she loved H’aloy 😆👌👌. (Also co-opping certainly speeds up the platinum time if you are thinking of doing that one)
@GamingGod it’s been a while since I played a Lego game so might play that with my youngest son. It takes two is fantastic if you want a great co-op game with the Mrs. Love a way out too but didn’t like what you had to do in the end, played that with my oldest son (who’s a much better gamer) and he destroyed me 🤣 looking forward to what Hazelight do next. I wish I could go back and play the order but I just can’t play games at 30fps anymore, must be my old age. Going to give Marathon a go when the server slam starts to see if it’s for me, was a big Destiny 1&2 player but fell off after final shape. I just wish they had a single player story baked into the product so I could of explored the world at my own pace first
@Quintumply I am pretty sure that is why I played it too. That is what I enjoy about the games part of Plus so much: finding gems I never would have played otherwise.
Thank you for this feature-it is a really fun read each week!
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I know what you mean about 30fps. But honestly after 5 minutes it felt normal lol. Give it a go mate the motion blur is pretty good. I slept on destiny so this is why I’m down for marathon. I’ve always heard how good Bungies gunplay Is but never experienced it and also I’m dying to play an fps game
@Westernwolf4 Thank you for reading, glad you enjoy it!
