Marathon's Slick Sci-Fi Visuals Will Look Particularly Crisp on PS5 Pro 1

Bungie's upcoming multiplayer shooter Marathon has always had a strong aesthetic whenever we've seen it, and it looks as though its neon colours and square-edged buildings will look especially sharp on Sony's PS5 Pro console.

We suppose that goes without saying, but it's worth highlighting how the game is utilising PS5 Pro's power, as it's a little different from the norm.

On PlayStation's official Marathon webpage, it briefly explains the way the enhanced console is put to use.

"PS5 Pro Enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) blends 5K internal rendering into a clean, stable 4K image so your Runner’s view stays sharp, even when the action gets hectic."

So, according to this line, Marathon is rendering out at a resolution equivalent to 5K, and PSSR is being employed to downsample it to 4K. This should result in an extra crisp image quality on the Pro.

As mentioned, the game has always looked very slick in trailers and gameplay footage, and it might be this downsampling tech giving it the edge. If you happen to have a PS5 Pro, you'll be able to enjoy looting corpses for slightly better guns or cartons of Um Bongo or whatever with a super clear image.

We now know Marathon is due for release on 5th March — are you excited for it? Will you be playing on PS5 Pro? Tell us in the comments section below.
