PlayStation has revealed the 20 most downloaded PS5 games of 2025, split between North America and Europe.
In truth, there aren't many surprises here. Annual sports games took both top spots, with NBA 2K26 winning out in NA, and EA Sports FC 26 taking the crown in EU.
In both regions, the champions were followed up by a very similar list of titles. The likes of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft remain eternally popular, while Battlefield 6 made the top five in both lists.
Interestingly, Forza Horizon 5 did really well in Europe, hitting fourth place, but it could only manage 14th in North America.
Perhaps the most startling thing about these charts is that the former Xbox exclusive actually did better than Sony's own Ghost of Yotei in Europe — although it should be noted that the former didn't have a physical edition on PS5.
Still, it just goes to show how popular Xbox's PS5 ports tend to be; it's no surprise to see the Green Team continue its multiplatform efforts with the likes of Avowed, which launches next month, and Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is due out later this year.
Ghost of Yotei did a bit better in North America, sneaking into the top ten, falling just behind multiplayer smash hit ARC Raiders.
And speaking of shooters, the much criticised Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 didn't make the top five in either region, having to settle for seventh place. A sign, perhaps, of the game's reportedly low sales numbers (at least, by Call of Duty standards).
Meanwhile, mass Game of the Year winner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came tenth in EU, and 18th in NA. We'd love to know how many downloads came after all of the awards.
We suppose it's also worth mentioning which PS5 games didn't make the cut, despite gaining a lot of traction last year. Hollow Knight: Silksong, Death Stranding 2, Mafia: The Old Country, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Silent Hill F, just to name a handful, all missed out.
Here are the charts in full:
| US/Canada | EU |
|---|---|
| NBA 2K26 | EA SPORTS FC 26 |
| Battlefield 6 | Grand Theft Auto V |
| Grand Theft Auto V | EA SPORTS FC 25 |
| EA SPORTS College Football 26 | Forza Horizon 5 |
| EA SPORTS Madden NFL 26 | Battlefield 6 |
| Minecraft | Minecraft |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 | Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 |
| ARC Raiders | Assassin’s Creed Shadows |
| Ghost of Yōtei | ARC Raiders |
| MLB The Show 25 | Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 | Ghost of Yōtei |
| Ready or Not | Split Fiction |
| EA SPORTS FC 26 | Hogwarts Legacy |
| Forza Horizon 5 | UFC 5 |
| NBA 2K25 | Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 |
| The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered | It Takes Two |
| Assassin’s Creed Shadows | Ready or Not |
| Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered |
| Monster Hunter Wilds | REMATCH |
| EA SPORTS FC 25 | F1 25 |
So, what do you make of these charts? Are there any real surprises here, or is it pretty much business as usual? Wonder if we'll ever see the end of Grand Theft Auto 5 in the comments section below.

FYI Ryan Hurst has been casted as kratos
I think the charts interesting in one way and bog standard in another, 2025 was a great year for games regardless.

@Max_the_German it was the highest placed single player title in one list and a single place behind the goty single player game in the other list. Not exactly sure what point you think you are managing to make
It simple it’s about the right game at the right time.
PS5 hasn’t really got a FH type game and Europe does like these sort of games.
I’m not sure if GOY which is a game I prefer over FH5 a little bit more has had great sales overall and also PS5 has got lots of action adventure games.
But it goes to show and I guess always has, doesn’t matter who makes the game, it’s the game that counts overall.
This year will be interesting to see if any Sony Studio game and of course being Wolverine will sell less than one of Xbox studio many games coming to PS5 this year. If any it could be Gears E day or FH6 possibly.
Also I think this year will and going forward make Xbox studios with the most games on PlayStation. What an unreal change to the PS4 era. Where Sony game wise were king of their own console.

@ShogunRok maybe it's time to close the comments section as it looks like it's about to go way off topic..
@Max_the_German I believe the kids would call that a L take

I wonder is this down to the US being Xbox's best market, while it's effectively been dead in lots of Europe for a long while now.
@Max_the_German Brother this is a article about the most downloaded video games.....
These lists are always depressing to look at, no wonder why everyone chases the live service train.
I feel like a new copy of GTAV is purchased every time a child comes into the world, someone has to be buying it.
It’s mass market palatable, no surprise. Both are great games in their respective genres, but I personally need way more than driving around in circles to hold my attention. Yotei had a great story, character development and fantastic gameplay; I played it far more than Forza 5.
@Oram77 And GoY, SIE’s star of 2025, is on 9 and 11 respectively. As SIE, I wouldn’t be happy. And I‘m sure there WILL be discussions why it didn’t perform better. And I think they will compare Jin and Atsu and will draw comparisons with Joel and Ellie of Part 2.
The fact gta V is still ranks in the top 3 downloaded titles of 2025 blows my mind. I wonder how long gta 6 will exist before (if) we get gta 7? Also, how much money has gta 5 made rockstar since launch? I know it has some of the highest production costs of any game (although star citizen has raised a ton of money through early access), but it must surely have one of the highest return to cost ratio’s of any triple A title in history.
@Max_the_German
I’m pretty sure Sony is happy with that spot. I cant imagine they assumed GoY would sell more than the usual top selling games like GTA, Minecraft, CoD, and the yearly sports games etc.
Heck they even sold more than the GOTY winner in the US. And considering their game released only 3 months ago, in the 10th month of the year, but still managed to get so many downloads is very good (not to mention GoY got a physical release, so many copies arent event counted in this top download list)
I think Forza Horizon 6 will be back here in the top 10 list at the end of this year or next year.
Also Forza released in April, Yotei released in October, I'm sure if Yotei had 6 more months of sales it would be higher.
@UltimateOtaku91 I guess its hard for people to see nuance when they’re giddy with excitement about seeing Sony fail 😆
@LogicStrikesAgain
I‘d love to see Sony thriving with PS5 exclusives from PS Studios. What was the last game with that level of impact, both financially and critically? Wikipedia says Spidey and God of War, both in 2018. Now it’s the year 2026.
Edit: Okay, Spidey 2 performed good as well. But there are not many PS Studios games on PS5 with huge success, unfortunately.
@Max_the_German
i mean sie’s first party single player titles dont really have that much of a budget so they still make very good profit
"So, what do you make of these charts?"
Ghost of Yotei has long legs and still stay strong 🤝
But it's really funny to see some people got very salty to see Yotei success. Some of them even boldly claim that Yotei stop selling and the game already completely lost it's popularity or what they called "noise" from gaming media lol.
@Max_the_German "As SIE, I wouldn’t be happy"
Thanks the heaven you're not SIE!
I can't imagine someone like you, who's not happy to see a game with $60 million budget already sold 3.3 million copies aka made PROFITS from the 1st month and 3 months later it's still selling well, can properly lead a big company. Big chance you gonna bankrupt SIE on the 1st day you sit on that CEO chair lol.
Alot of people missing out on an absolute masterpiece in Death Stranding 2. If you enjoyed the first one, there’s no way you’ll not have a great time with the sequel. 10/10 game for me. I’m 131 hours in at the moment and only 2/3 of the way done.
@judgmentarrows In the long term, a platform like PlayStation lives from is exclusives with „wow“ appeal. No question that in the moment, PlayStation is very healthy even with few games of this calibre. But the decline of Xbox is something that also reminds Sony that permanent success is not a given and not guaranteed. And ND games are THOSE „wow“ games to keep the platform fresh and exciting.
@Max_the_German "In the long term, a platform like PlayStation lives from is exclusives"
I don't think that's true at all, Sony could go all gen without releasing a first party game and they would still sell 80+ million consoles, as the majority of high end console gamers are primarily interested in third party games and multiplayer games, plus the addition of Xbox exclusives Sony wouldn't need to release a game again. Now that statement would ring true for Nintendo, if Nintendo went a while gen with no first party exclusives then there would be no pint in owning the system and wouldn't pass the 10 million sales mark.
The general public has awful taste.
@Max_the_German
There have been more games from Playstation Studios that have had critical and financial succes after 2018, here are some of them with their copies sold:
@LogicStrikesAgain Don't forget TloU 2 also a financial and critically success. It won GotY 2020 and sold 10 million copies as of 2022 (maybe right now at 15 million copies or more).
But i wonder if Demon Souls remake, Returnal, Astro Bot, and R&C Rift Apart are a financial success. DS remake, Returnal, and Astro Bot only sold 1 million copies while Rift Apart i believe at 2 million copies cmiiw. They are critically a success though with each game scored above 85% on metacritic, even DS remake at 92% and Astro won last year GotY.
@PuppetMaster You’re right about those games, but i just didnt want anyone to be able to nitpick. People love to move goalposts around, so i just listed games that released this console generation.
But yeah, since he himself mentioned that Sony’s last financial successes were in 2018, we could definitely add all the games after that year like:
Just a few corrections on your numbers though, last known copies sold for Astro bot was 2.3M in early 2025 and for Racthet and Clank: Rift Apart was around 4M back in 2023, i’m assuming these are also higher today
@DeepSpace5D going by the top games (US) why would you think anyone would have the patience to play something like death stranding? 😂
@Makeshift aside from COD, what’s awful about it? sports?
@nomither6 Exactly my point when I said alot of people are missing out on a real gem. Pretty clear acknowledgment of it not appearing on any of the charts, so I’m not sure what your issue is with my statement.
AC Shadows higher than Yōtei
@LogicStrikesAgain Forbidden West is still below 10m, its sales slowed down much. Yōtei sold 3.3m in first month, hit falls behind Tsushima’s sales and did not reach 6m yet, they are somewhere around 4m something. The reason is, after lots of hype and release noise, it didn’t take three weeks for everyone to just forget about it. Barely anyone even mentions Yōtei now.
Btw, Astro Bot sold around 1m officially, but according to some leaks it’s somewhere around 1.5m. It won GOTY but sales wise is not really a grand success
@Max_the_German Spiderman 2 sales are highly affected by the fact they were adding it bundled with console. That created a picture of good sales results. But it did not sell that well if not bundles.
@Leinad7 As of January 2025, Astro Bot had sold 2.3 million and the last released sales information for Forbidden West was 8.4 million in 2023, so it's likely to have crossed the 10 million mark by now. Google is free my friend
@Leinad7
Last official count was over 8.4M in 2023. But 2 months ago it was reported that the whole franchise sold 40M. Around 27M of those are from Horizon Zero Dawn. That leaves around 13M divided between Forbidden West, Call of the Mountain VR and Lego Horizon. And unless you think those last two sold particularly well, its safe to assume Forbidden West has sold well over 10M by now.
They reportedly already reached around 4M copies after 2 months, we’re now 3.5 months from release, so its perfectly reasonable to assume it has sold more copies. But you’re right, my initial guess of 6M was probably too high, perhaps around 5M. But still highly likely to eventually reach high total sales too.
Nope. Astro Bot already reached 1.5M two months after release in November 2024. Then according to Alinea Analytics they sold around 2.3M in early 2025, about a year ago. And i know Astro Bot isnt a huge financial succes, thats why i didnt list it, i was merely correcting someone that stated it had sold 1M
Come one, now you’re just going out of your way to discredit their sales. Bundled Mario games still count as copies sold, so why not here. And it still sold 11M in just the first 6 months, thats very good either way. Saying it wouldnt sell well if it werent in a bundle is very speculative, and highly unlikely for such a popular IP. Some reports estimate it over 16M copies by now, so either way it’s a financial success, which is what the other user and i were discussing.
Only in Europe though, in the US AC Shadows is way below Ghost of Yotei.
And perhaps AC Shadows releasing 7 months earlier has something to with it?
@LogicStrikesAgain Thanks for the correction. Yeah you're right that Astro Bot official number from Sony is 1.5 million copies from November 2024. The 2.3 million from Alinea was estimates but could be true or probably right now it already passed that numbers.
https://www.gematsu.com/2024/11/astro-bot-sales-top-1-5-million
And you also right that Rift Apart is a financial success, sold 4 million copies as of 2023. Insomniac (and Sony) are really doing well this gen. From Miles Morales, Spidey 2, Rift Apart, and next is Wolverine.
@PuppetMaster That 60 million budget won't include Yotei's marketing budget. Which could even possibly have doubled it. That said, even in that case Yotei will either already be profitable or rapidly approaching it. Sony will be happy enough.
I think the bigger thing for them those, is that unless it goes on to sell 10s of millions of copies, it just further cements in their mind that single player games aren't where the big money is. Good money sure, 300-500 million returned on stay a 120 total budget is nothing to scoff at, but it's pretty much peanuts compared to the money that the big live service games bring in on a quarterly basis. Especially when Sony only seem to be putting out 1 game, or maybe 2, of that size a year.
If I had to guess, games like Yotei aren't really money makers in their eyes, they're "loss leaders" (emphasis on leader not loss) to make sure people keep buying PS5s. It's why they've usually clustered launches around the start and end of console generations. Mission accomplished in that case.
@Lysterao "That 60 million budget won't include Yotei's marketing budget. Which could even possibly have doubled it"
I really doubt Yotei marketing budget that expensives. The game doesn't have Billboard ads everywhere, Sony didn't hired Hollywood A-tier celebs to promote it, it didn't have ads on movie theatres, or any big massive campaign unlike Uncharted 4, Spiderman 2, or GoW Ragnarok marketing. Big chance Yotei marketing budget in the low end the same as Tsushima.
"If I had to guess, games like Yotei aren't really money makers in their eyes, they're "loss leaders" (emphasis on leader not loss) to make sure people keep buying PS5s"
Your guess has no solid basis. If Sony didn't think games like Yotei as a money maker, then they wouldn't keep making it while showing the game brought solid revenue on their financial report.
Also, loss leader to make sure people keep buying PS5? In what way when all reports showed PS5 sold a ton and beaten Switch 2 last holiday. And when Wolverine & GTA 6 release this holiday, i can guarantee you will see PS5 sold like hotcakes.
@DeepSpace5D maybe because i don’t have an issue with the statement; i was just saying
@Max_the_German Looked at another way Yotei is the most downloaded non-live service game in the US and second in the EU behind GOTY Expedition 33. That doesn't smell like failure to me, especially considering it's lower AAA budget. But you can spin it however you please.
@nomither6 Oh ok gotcha. Yeah, I’m not disillusioned into thinking it’s a game of mass appeal. But I can’t recommend it enough personally for people willing to give it a shot, and especially those who liked the first one.
@themightyant He's not gonna see Yotei in a positive way. The guy keeps downplaying and calling the game as a failure even after Sony financial report said the game is a success and 3 months later it's still selling well against GotY and more mainstream games like GTA, COD, Minecraft, etc.
What a depressing list. Same mindless shooting and sports games and an archaic GTA from 2013. How are people not bored of this.
I’m truly an outlier I would rather a million silent hills or kingdom 2 than the dross the masses seem to lap up.
I'd love how many people actually finished GoY..I adored GoT, couldn't finish GoY
@LogicStrikesAgain I got Spiderman 2 bundled with console, at nearly no extra cost. If not that I wouldn’t buy it until price drops below $30 or get preowned copy. That is what I meant, they bundled the digital game with console but it was sold at nearly same price as console alone. Adding these to sales stats is questionable for me. Nintendo when they bundle anything they increase the bundle price.
@Leinad7 I highly doubt they’d put a discount on the game at launch. So i guess the discount was for the console rather than the game. Financially, those games likely were handled as full $70 sales, so still a financial success.
In addition, the game probably sold over 16M copies already. And that bundle was only for a limited time, so i’d wager the majority was sold outside of those bundles
@LogicStrikesAgain They sold 11m copies, then bundles happened and it went to 15m or so. I am not saying 5m is purely bundles, there are also some sales in Store taking place, but bundles did have some impact.
Considering most people claim it is decent game, with nice gameplay, yet bland story, childish missions, boring characters and overall worse than first game everywhere except some improved gameplay mechanics and bigger city.
I mean. I love first SM game, I like Morales, and I honestly was bored by SM2. I played around 10 hours and deleted only to download first game again.
@Leinad7 Again, what the other user and i were discussing was financial succes of Sony’s games after 2018, not whether people liked the game. If the game sold 16M copies (by whatever means), that means its a financial succes, so by all accounts it deserves a place in that list
If i had to guess, i’d say probably around 1-2M of the copies were sold through the bundles. But that still doesnt negate the fact that the game is a financial succes
@LogicStrikesAgain You only ignore the trend which in statistics us important. Most of their sequels did worse than original games. People claim SM2 or HFW or Ragnarok will reach sales levels of original games, yet it is not happening. These sales trends went down. Who wanted to buy already did it. They will not sell another 10m copies.
@Leinad7 I’m not claiming anything like that. I was having a discussion with someone with clear boundaries. We were only talking about Sony games after 2018 that had financial succes. You are just going out of your way to move goalposts, talking about completely different things like whether these games sold more than their predecessors, which is a whole different topic
