Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

The_Moose

I think if they are going to get a subscription service why not offer them separately and allow the customer to pick and choose what they want; as a tier system sounds quite pricey. For instance I subscribe to PS Plus but PS Now doesn't interest me and I think endeavours like it such as Gamepass in the long run are harmful to the Devs. So I would say a PS Plus sub and a "PS Classics" sub which offers the PS1-3 games with things like trophy support would be great.

I think in that sense PS are losing the console war, they've got a treasure trove of classic titles which if they granted access would be a huge money maker. Also they need to start thinking more ambitious. Instead of lamenting the loss of Devs such as Bethesda and their titles, why not think "hmm well let's get one of our own studios to develop our own versions of Elder Scrolls/Fallout".

PS4 gen was a big win for Sony but they can't afford to rest on their laurels, so hopefully this new service if done right will give them an edge.

Re: Soapbox: Some Games Assume You Know How to Play Them, and It's Kinda Weird

I think the older the game the easier we found it. Most games when I was young in the 90s had either fixed camera angles or were 2d platformers (I started on the Amiga).

Then move onto the PS1 which were initially restricted in what the games did with analogue controls being introduced in games as the generation aged meant we were gradually introduced.

This process combined with the fact that I started young certainly helped me. Give my Dad a modern day shooter and he's shooting everything except the enemy.

Re: Video: Are People Still Playing PS3 Games Online in 2021?

The_Moose

Still playing through my PS3 backlog which takes a while when trophy hunting.

Just completed Quantum of Solace (textbook FPS of the late noughties) and got all single player trophies. Will miss out on the platinum because of MP trophies and servers are now shut down, a problem many PS3 games will face.

Don't get me wrong I did use the other weapons on the first couple of play throughs and they had their uses but I always found the plasma cutter most useful, especially when upgraded. Which was odd bearing in mind it was the default weapon.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut Is Superb, But Sony Shouldn't Be Charging Extra for PS5 Upgrade

@Jarobusa
Maybe it does but they're not alone in charging people for a slightly better version of their product. How many times was CoD reskinned with a bit better better graphics and a new story every year. Was merely an upgrade when you think about it but it still sells.

Companies are there to make money, some value PR, some value the profit to invest back into the games. Just different ways of doing things.

All the negative press will be forgotten. Charging for this upgrade will not go down in the history books as some great betrayal.

R* have charged people for the same iteration of GTAV 3x over and it's still regularly in the top 10 selling games charts (combined with online).

Being charged for a product isn't as big a deal as you think it is. Yeah it can be a rip off some time but I can see both sides of the argument.

"paying $30 to play a title you already played again with marginal improvements is a sucker’s game, especially with what you can get for that price in other places."

Couldn't agree more. That's why I won't be buying it. I don't blame Sony either for charging because they needed to pay staff to pull off those upgrades and they know people will buy them.

We can just play whatever else in the meantime until titles like GoT become cheaper.

@The_New_Butler
If you play cross platform there is obviously a reason you are playing Sony games/platforms because they have something you want.

You don't have to take anything what any company does, you can go to a competitor or as you've hinted at buy it at a cheaper price. Why do you care that you can't play the PS5 upgrade straight away for free?

There's loads of games on PS4/PS5 and other gens to keep you busy. The catalogue will only get bigger which will cause GoT at least to drop in price.

If you don't want to pay for the upgrade then don't. There are thousands of gamers who will buy it though.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut Is Superb, But Sony Shouldn't Be Charging Extra for PS5 Upgrade

The_Moose

The price may not be justified but surely at the same time, there are players out there who will pay for this so why shouldn't Sony charge for the upgrade? If other companies want to give upgrades away for free then great, it benefits consumers but not necessarily the company themselves (except maybe PR).

As a consumer we have the right not to buy or wait until the price inevitably drops and buy it then.

Re: Call of Duty: Vanguard Key Art Leaks, Reveal Reportedly Next Week

The_Moose

I remember Medal of Honour: Underground on the PS1 having a woman on the cover but then again you actually played as a woman in the French Resistance. I don't remember any outrage at that but a woman fighting in the resistance was a thing historically and we didn't have a culture war to fight back then. Simpler times indeed.

Time to wait and see if the woman in these images is shoehorned like females fighting in the US army or something more plausible like a resistance fighter.

Re: Sony Is Absolutely Flying Financially Right Now

The_Moose

@Fenbops
Well yeah but they don't just sit on that profit, it also get invested back into the company to improve services, complete R&D which in turn leads to the new technology and products that we all enjoy. They get rich because they were the ones who used their own cash to invest, they took the risks with all their millions and had a lot to lose because of it.

The more things cost to make the higher the return needed = higher price for the end product.

Re: Battlefield 2042 Doesn't Have a Campaign, But It Is Getting a Short Film

The_Moose

@AdamNovice
I think with certain games though there is an expectation of what it provides. For example a CoD game usually provides a Campaign/Multiplayer/Zombies (or some other special mode)
The removal of one or two of these modes and charging full price for something that we got as standard and more of in previous titles is bad practice I'd say.
Also when games shoehorn in multiplayer modes (looking at Tomb Raider) where there was no need is a joke when they charge the player base for it.
However at the same time it is up to the players whether they pay full price for something they don't really want.
