Update []: The votes have been counted, and it's official: the Push Square Game of the Month for December 2025 is... Terminator 2D: No Fate!

This blast from the past clearly clicked with a lot of you, offering up satisfyingly old school shooting fused with a clear appreciation for all things Terminator.

Over 600 votes were cast in our December Game of the Month poll, and we'll let you in on a little secret: Terminator 2D was actually getting stomped by Marvel Cosmic Invasion for much of the poll's life.

But Skynet came back with a vengeance later on, eventually surpassing its competitor by some distance. A proper comeback story!

These were the top five games of December 2025, according to our readers:

  1. Terminator 2D: No Fate - 178 votes (30%)
  2. Marvel Cosmic Invasion - 130 votes (22%)
  3. Octopath Traveler 0 - 97 votes (16%)
  4. Yakuza 0 Director's Cut - 65 votes (11%)
  5. Skate Story - 60 votes (10%)

We've said this before, but we feel like these Game of the Month awards allow 'smaller' games to get some deserved recognition. Terminator 2D is a great example — the kind of title that would never even be mentioned in most Game of the Year discussions.

But because it released during a relatively quiet period, players were willing to give it a shot — and they obviously liked it enough to throw it a vote in our poll.

Indeed, we'll always have time for throwback titles that deliver on both gameplay and nostalgia; Terminator 2D is a bona fide retro banger.

Congratulations to Skynet and all of its many killing machines. We hope that this award will make you think twice about eradicating humanity in the future.

Original Story: We may have just wrapped up our Game of the Year coverage for 2025, but there's still one little thing we've got to take care of before moving on to 2026 in full...

We are, of course, referring to Game of the Month. December's release schedule might have been overshadowed by all of the aforementioned Game of the Year discourse, but those last-gasp titles still deserve some time in the spotlight.

And so here we are, ready to determine our official Game of the Month for December 2025.

In truth, December rarely delivers in terms of exciting new games. That's mostly because big publishers drop their AAA titles ahead of the holidays, opting for October or November launches in order to maximise marketing potential.

And 2025's December wasn't much different, with a distinct lack of heavy hitters — but this meant that smaller games had a chance to shine.

The likes of Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Skate Story, and Terminator 2D: No Fate kept us busy (when we weren't obsessing over our backlogs).

Meanwhile, Octopath Traveler 0 blazed something of a different path for Square Enix's RPG series, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 finally made its trip to PS5, and Yakuza 0 Director's Cut gave us an excuse to play a classic Kiryu adventure again.

But before we get down to the all-important vote, let's quickly recap the Game of the Month winners from 2025:
