As it happens, I was thinking the other day I should replay RE Village while waiting for Requiem's next month launch - so (finally!!) this month's offer is right on the spot!
Where's that "Are you happy with this month's... " POLL ? I wanna vote!
Gonna watch it, because curiosity (not as keen on "absolute zero spoilers" as others, I'll buy and enjoy the game day one regardless of what they show).
Not that the game isn't good (it is), but what else was there to vote on? Weirdly, it was a very quiet month even though it was holiday season. Especially considering that even July and August that are notoriously slow months gaming-wise, are starting to get busier nowadays...
Definitely a title that belongs on the list. But just like Kingdom Come II, it should have been placed higher imo.
While not a GOTY (which I bet will be E33... again... 🙄), it's definitely worth a lot more than SH f that you most likely have planned for top 3.
Don't turn it into Assassin's Creed bub, it didn't end up well for them...
SH f is not the excellent game I though it would be, lost my interest about 4-5h in, which was very unexpected given the outstanding SH2 Remake released just last year, an "old school" title you could have used for inspiration...
Publish a game at 5 years intervals but do it proper justice, or give it a rest... Better to put the franchise back to sleep than drag it through the dirt until there's nothing left but it's name and a memory of past glories.
What matters to me is the actual game, NOT the platform it's on.
Simple objective truth: the biggest reason I bought one of every PS console gen for the last 18 years, are the 1st party exclusive games.
Barring that, I have no need for consoles - as a platform, a PC is a lot more versatile, by far.
And, despite owning a PS3, PS4 Pro and PS5 (Pro now, since I gave the OG PS5 to my son) I've also bought and replayed almost every one of the games that Sony released on Steam. Why? I like replaying them for the trophies / achievements + getting them at a discount. As I said, game trumps platform!
For the future - I hope Sony engages again full throttle in making those epic AAA 1st party games, and PS6 will be at least as peppered with them as PS4 was.
Port them on every platform or make them all PS exclusive again, I don't care - if the game is good, I'll buy the console for it if I have to.
Just give me the type of games I love PS studios for!
Got a PS5 Pro a few weeks ago, so I'm putting it to work.
To increase the "new console" experience, I'm using a 3rd playstation account that I've made a while back for the UK region (alongside 2 others, one for US and another for my country) but never used it for gaming - now I'm using it to (re)play some of the 1st party games on it to get the trophies again, like a fresh start.
Renewed the PS+ subscription on BF last month on the US account, using it to install the games, then playing them on the UK account. Finished with God of War 2018, now I'm in God Of War Ragnarok, Uncharted, The last of us, Ghost of Tsushima to follow.
Happy holidays everyone! Party plenty, game religiously, but consume everything consciously - nothing is ever good in excess!
@twitchtvpat Put 2 and 2 together.... On top of the pandemics impact on gaming development, investment and work on 1st party SP titles slowed even more in all of Sony's studio's during their gaas obsession - which eventually ended in multiple failures and cancellations. Facts that left them with a few year drought during PS5's lifecycle, a mud they are slowly crawling out from...
Sony's hard pressed to put 1st party heavy hitters out to recover losses, so it's either starting or accelerating developments of already started titles across it's studios.
Also, what are they going to present as PS6 launch titles ~ 2 years from now, cross-gens? 3rd party's? Remade Remasters of the same old titles? Wasn't PS5 riddled with them and back-lashed for for more than half it's life? Or are they going to hit big with at least 1-2 launch titles tailored made for the new hardware?
There's not much time left considering it takes 4-5 years to make games of the caliber they were known and loved for. If Intergalactic was chosen to be one of those titles (and it's 2027 launch year suggests it could be), there's tons to be done to get it ready in time, which leads to... this
Owner must make sure that the person playing does not suffer from anger management, as damage to the vehicle or accidents resulted from rage quitting and throwing controllers or other objects, are not covered by warranty or insurance
In other words: Sony is taking out it's severe management errors on the employees, in an attempt to launch new 1st party games asap, and make up for all the $$$ and time they've lost chasing GAAS "golden egg laying" geese without any back-up plan...
Call them what you will, indies, AA, AAA, short, long, in the bag by the door etc.
If the game is good and to my taste, I'm gonna play it regardless of who published it (devs or separate company) or of how many members the dev team has.
Call me ignorant, I don't care, gaming time is at a premium and only growing shorter with each passing year, juggling family, work, and the rest of the daily life chores - I'd rather play the game than label it
It just has to be turn based, doesn't it? This genre seems to be all the rage nowadays, implementations of it winning top awards in 2023 and 2025. Meh...
Only 5 games ??
GTA 6 will certainly win this chart with so many hyped about it... good luck to them, but it's not for me.
Here are my selections :
- Crimson Desert - Prince of Persia Sands Of Time Remake - Marvel's Wolverine - Resident Evil Requiem - Lords of the Fallen 2 - Mortal Shell 2 - 007 First Light - The Blood Of Dawnwalker - Control Resonant - Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis - Gothic - Phantom Blade Zero - End of Abyss
2:30 AM, crap...
On the other hand, watching it the next day comes with the fabulous perk "skip the parts you don't care about", which is perfect for time optimization 👍
Optimizations are always welcomed, but a battery with a bigger capacity wouldn't hurt either, not to mention TMR sticks - things included by default nowadays in a lot of other gamepads, some of them quite cheaper than the standard DS.
@themightyant You should play the second game, it's even better than the first. They could very well be 1 game split in 2, since SR2 actually starts exactly where SR1 one stops.
"established vampire IP" could also mean the Kain centered Blood Omen that started it all.
I would love to see those games revived one day, through a full on reboot, starting with BO1, ending in Soul Reaver Defiance, with revamped and enriched story (either by the same Amy Hennig or an equally gifted writer), thus also adding more lore and game content in-between the old titles.
In the middle it seems to be a door to a nasty domain (hell gate?). On the side are skeletons, some of them are even horned, demon-like. The crocodile has a hand instead of it's usual legs, and that bear could very well be a werebear, like the druid form.
To me it's more likely about an RPG, most likely a trailer for
the Diablo 4's 2nd expansion.
@LogicStrikesAgain Steam as a platform maybe, but not necessarily as a store... They lowered the "meaningful discount" cases bit by bit in recent years, and show no indication of stopping (personal overall observation over the years).
For some time now a better way to buy cheap games for the Steam platform is not from their own store, but from cd key sites, especially outside of Steam's promotional periods (sometimes even within...). It's not all sunshine on those sites either, not as it was 4-5 years ago, but you can still get lucky more often than on Steam's store.
I've finished both games on PS5 and on PC, about 3 times each over the years (4 times for ZD iirc), going for different trophies/achievements.
Loved every minute of it.
Haters can go f...find something else to play.
As I've said before in a previous comment, Steam machine will be sold at around 700$ price, a lot more or a bit less depending on the SSD storage and other components if they vary (RAM for example).
500$ is not realistic, given the PC parts costs nowadays, even for bulk purchases on Valve's part.
Should I add that RAM and SSD costs have just skyrocketed to kingdom come (with no deliverance ha ha) ?
CoD has been running for so many years, maybe it needs to stop?
As an IP, it definitely peaked some years ago and since then, on average, it's been on the downward slope.
At least change the devs, bring in new teams, fresh blood, fresh visions. Battlefield 6 as a direct competitor is doing great so it's time to change some core pillars in CoD if they are so set to keep it going.
But then again it's Microsoft, and like any big corporation "biggest profits with smallest investments" is in their nature.
Just like the Diablo IP has become a vision-less mess of non-cohesive stupid ideas for the sake of profit, I'm not surprised CoD is on the same path.
For those interested, to profit from BF discounts on PS+ you can use 2 accounts.
Make a new PS+ subscription in one of them, for 1 year for example.
Next year let it end and make a new PS+ subscription on the other.
As long as both accounts are on the same console, all games installed on one of them will also be playable on the other.
Use wallet top-up cards/codes to refill your PS store wallet if you use an account for a different region in which you don't have a bank account (if you live in Europe and want to use a US account for example, Sony won't let you use a european card to pay for stuff on US playstore, but you can top-up the wallet on the US account and pay that way).
Sticking it to your existing customers is not part of the "Playstation exclusive" portfolio, and it's not even new...
Without proper legislation to prevent it, all we can do is find ways to stick it right back using various tools at our disposal.
"Away! Away! You are not wanted here!" said an angry villager while waving his torch. "It's a curse... this is a damned curse!" added another, contemplating his continuously degrading condition, in a dark forgotten corner of the PS5's ssd.
Steam machine vs PS5 - the PS5 should be worried only if the SM costs about 400$... which it won't. Valve already stated "it will be priced as a PC" so I don't expect it to be cheap (my guess is around 700$ average, maybe higher for bigger storage, lower for entry level).
You can play many of Sony's exclusives on it since they are already on Steam, but don't expect them to look as good as they do on PS5 Pro, it doesn't really have the GPU to handle it.
However I'm very happy for the competition, especially if Valve could price it better than expected.
What I'm very interested in is the controller.... at least until they announce its price ha ha. I don't expect it to be lower than 200$...
Hopefully it gets to cover both the Dualsense Edge and the Elite Series 2 in complete shame from a "features/price" p.o.v....
Enough to shake Sony and MS into doing better? We'll see.
As for what they're working on, if it's a single player title first and foremost (not gaas, mmo or other form of online MP-centered game), I'm all for it.
