I have fond memories of the original Gear's multiplayer, so I'm glad it's making a return in the remake.

Never played this series, has that screen shake in the crouching run always been a thing? It looks awful.

Gears of War running always made me feel dizzy and nauseous. This video brings that back. Even with that, back then I forced myself to play the game and did ultimately enjoy the game.

@Intr1n5ic Has indeed been there, and is indeed awful. I effectively abandoned the series on Series X because of it.

I tought i wanted this..but after this I'll pass until a hefty price drop, looks slightly better than it's 360 days, the god awful screen shake, " for impact" is still there, sooo next Fable 1 2 and 3 please !!

Wait I thought this was remade in UE5? How come it still looks like a UE3 game. Unless that was deliberate; but man, I really don't miss the look of early UE3 games. All that brown, grey, and everything is shiny.

At the end of the day for those that haven’t played on the series x and have a PS5 Pro, then just enjoy the best way to play it visually if it’s your type of game you wish to pay for.
It’s all very simple.
The most powerful console the best looking and smoothest version of back in the day what was a great game.

2006 technology, at least amazing games like this were created. Stunning single player experiences like this are dead in this current age.

If the full game is on disk, I was going to buy it, but that screen shake is really off putting. Is there an option to turn that off?

Hmm…pretty sure I’m seeing some frame drops here. Looks crisp, and mostly good frame rate, but not a constant 60…at least not yet.

The extended scenes of them rolling about and hiding behind cover while nothing is there ? Unintentional comedy gold.

From what I remember having played all gears games. Even though they aren't my favourite shooters I liked the horde Modes with friends you could turn off the camera shake in the newer ones but it still remained slightly when sprinting.

Stylistically and aesthetically it will always look like a 2000's shooter but to be honest I'd say a lot of that is because it almost encapsulated that era of aesthetic the most and arguably the best with it's tone and themes.

It has the typical UE Artstyle and colour palette from that era. You can look at many games from that time period and see a similarly muted colour palette as games tried to move away from the Cartoony bright colours and tried to go for more gritty realism.

Say what you want about it, but Uncharted was influenced by this and numerous other 3rd Person Action games too.

I won't be buying this, I own the 360 OG version, the XB1 'Ultimate' edition Remaster and thanks to Xbox, I have been gifted the Reloaded edition too. I have beaten it multiple times over the years so I doubt I'd have re-bought it anyway.

I never got into the Multi-player but I really enjoyed Horde mode and Beast mode in later games. I much prefer to play Gears co-operatively than competitively...

Can ya'll confirm or deny whether one can pre-order this game on PS5 to attend the multiplayer betas, and then refund the game before release? That's a strategy for the Steam version right now

I always really liked the art style in Gears of War. The bleached out, almost monochrome, colours and the beautifully designed architecture really gave it it's own unique feel.

@BAMozzy @TimeDelayedGamer I miss this type of artstyle & design in games so much. there’s way too many games these days that are oversaturated overly colorful fortnite looking clones (splitgate 2 being a recent one) & i hate it; even game series that don’t even fit the tone has mimicked it because bright colors apparently does attract people and brings more sales i guess

but i still hate it, and we should have some variety again, im glad doom the dark ages exists

@nomither6 I certainly don't mind it and much prefer a more realistic artstyle to the cartoony styles and/or stylised (like Marathon) so I'd take the look of Gears of War over games like Fortnite, Splitgate, Marathon etc.

I'm also being turned off by all those excessive neon bright particle effects and swoosh lines that are appearing far more frequently in a lot of games. I can understand why games looked a certain way in their day - often due to limitations in pixels, polygons and hardware - but in general, I'd rather see more realism as I think that has more Atmosphere. Bright colourful doesn't scream 'gritty' dark, moody, horror etc at all and this was a Gritty, Dark war story

@BAMozzy agreed. atmosphere adds so much to a game & is part of its charm & identity and world itself. also, halo reach and gears of war 3 pretty much nailed a perfect balance between the two styles as well.

@nomither6 Come to think of it, the Gears art style was obviously heavily influenced by war films like Saving Private Ryan. The washed out colours really give the same feeling, as does the shaky camera on the roadie run.

I agree with you, the art style should serve the vibe of the story and setting as part of a coherent whole. The original Gears of War trilogy did that brilliantly, and it helped made Sera a memorable, believable setting. It was done so well that I really wanted to see what Sera looked like in it's glory days, before the Locust emerged.

Is the story good? Looking at this, I don’t really have a desire to play another cover and shoot style game having played through six Uncharted games.

@BusyOlf by 2025 standards? it’s mediocre tbh. by xbox360 era standards it’s good, but really takes off with the sequel and third game

I don't see the appeal... it's just a remaster. The gameplay is old, giving it a new coat of paint is not gonna improve it as much as desired.

Probably gonna play the campaign on Game Pass on PC at some point, for a bit of nostalgia's sake, but that's about it. Wouldn't pay full price for it no matter the platform.

Gears 3 was my favorite

@BusyOlf I'd say the first is pretty good - it was Game of the Year for some Awards and won numerous accolades like Best Action Game, best Console game etc but the 2nd and 3rd are superior - especially 2 - I think that has the best 'story'.

Its dark, gritty and 'brutal' and you do get the 'horror' of War too - at least the Epic Trilogy is - the Coalition made games aren't quite so gritty, brutal and they even dropped the 'of War' for Gears 5.

I still think its OK today as a compete game but its also nearly 20 years old. It was 'limited' by Hardware and modern games can do 'more' for the story, the game-play loop etc so it may not have the same impact it did when I first played it.

I'd recommend it - but I'd also say remember its nearly a 20yr old game. Its a bit like 'Uncharted', which was great at the time but after Uncharted 2 and 3 and now decades of time, its 'OK' but not the 'best' in the franchise.

PC will be the best version of the game, as most often is the case. I’ll play it day one on GamePass 😁

But yeah, as others have mentioned; I don’t particularly miss all the grey and brown from that UE3 era 😅 But I’ve always loved Gears 1, the setting and mood. It was ofc amazing back in the day, and it has aged pretty well!

Microsoft gave me it for free on PC/Xbox sent me a code the other day to claim it because they think I own Gears 1 Ultimate but I don't I refunded it 1 day after I bought it last year on Windows 10/Xbox App it wouldn't work. Just a black screen when hitting new game they never fixed it either so I got a refund but they sent in the with the code to all owners of gears of War Ultimate.

It's in my library for August the downside back then was Unreal 3 was awful it had poor textures on 360/PS3 back then like they sort of didn't load anything in. And any game that used U3 looked awful and the same dull look

I can't stand the ugly grey and yellow filters of the PS3 era
