I bought a PS5 since 2020, 1 month after launch.
Gave it to my son this year, and didn't feel the need get another.
The first party games I was playing on it are already on PC, or I've played them too much to get into them again.
And first party titles are the main reason I bought at least 1 Playstation console of each generation since way back in 2006 (PS2 slim, PS3 phat, PSP slim, PS4 Pro, PS5). Hell, I still have the PS3 and PS4 Pro, and they still work.
But the way things went with PS5 since launch, getting the next gen is under serious question.
If Sony doesn't make some much needed additions to it's first party portfolio, most likely I'll be skipping the PS6.
Coincidence or not, Sony reduced by a lot the first party game presentations and setting launch dates after June-July 2022, after the overblown "critiques" surrounding the launch date announcement of God Of War Ragnarok. Sony SMS was targeted this time, they received quite bit of hate and even threats on their social media accounts because they didn't announce it at the end of June if I remember correctly...
Soon after this and also given the previous The Last Of Us Part 2 similar "happenings", Sony drastically reduced all communications and announcements regarding it's own studios and what they're working on. It simply became it's new policy, say nothing until very close to the launch date...
Although I agree that Sony took it to extreme, by not even giving a broad roadmap of what we can expect from Playstation over the next few years, I can't really blame them...
I know it's not the only contributing factor, but I bet it's a good part of it...
On the back of what we saw with Star Wars Outlaws, we need to make sure that we come with an impeccable player experience on day one
Translation: "it was perfectly known inside Ubisoft that those 2 games will launch in 2024 in an unfinished state, and still we gave Star Wars the green light.
And it's only because of negative player reactions resulting in low sales, and that we really need the money from AC Shadows sales to survive, that we decided to delay and actually finish it. Otherwise we would have launched it now without a second thought."
The effing nerve on some of the devs and publishers these days...
Releasing a third set of covers specifically for the PS5 Pro seems a little ludicrous to us. Honestly I wasn't expecting either part of the cover to fit.... seems they slipped on that one.
@get2sammyb Speaking of devs: I wonder if the devs that stated that they "don't see the use of a PS5 Pro console since they didn't even reach PS5's full potential" are already among the first to make patches to improve their games, because on the Pro - they can.
Played Worms Armageddon a lot back in the day, on my first PC actually... a lot of fun it was, especially with friends. The Baseball Bat + Low Gravity combination was the coolest most satisfying way to punish your opponents ^__^ Oh and I still remember the voice when the Holy Bomb exploded saying "Haaaalelujah!"... fun times!
Alas I don't think I'd have the patience to play it nowadays, not more than a few levels anyway, for nostalgia's sake. Good luck to the ones that still do, though, get a bunch of friends around you and have fun!
Played this back in the day on PS3 and liked it.
If i were to sum it up in a few words: It's a good game to play once. You won't feel the need to do so again.
Not good from a layoff POV.
But I'm glad an MMO/mobile game is not being made.
They should concentrate their efforts on Horizon 3, instead of more diluting and milking that will certainly lead to IP exhaustion.
We already have 2 AAA games, 2 hefty DLC's, a Remaster, 2 PC versions, a VR game, a Lego game, a TV show at least in the talks, a multiplayer game in development apparently, and an eventual Horizon 3 sequel.
Sony should give it a much needed rest for 1 year or 2, before they lose more than they gain.
While it's not the return I was hoping this IP would have, I'll get the Remaster day 1.
The whole Kain franchise has true potential to bring in new audiences if handled properly - a lot more than they are aiming for with this release. Bring Amy back for some more story, make a prequel for Raziel before the events of SR1, Remake the two Blood omen games, include unreleased content etc.
Maybe if it'll have good sales, they'll consider making more games.
And if nothing else - at the very least - remaster Defiance, and give closure to Raziel's ark.
@AhmadSumadi Your comment reminds me of a kids song my son was watching a couple of years ago, something along the lines of "Do you love broccoli? Yes! Do you love ice cream? Yes! Do you love broccoli icecream? No, yucky!" ^__^
Now that the game will be out next month, maybe Lego will bring a new range of Horizon sets to the market.
That maybe could be used as stand alone or as components of a bigger whole, that would be a great idea. So, for example, you can put together a settlement surrounded by wilderness sprinkled with various machines and wild life (something similar to the towns and trains you can assemble from multiple sets).
Really tough shoes to fill there, Lance has done a very charismatic Sylens, replacing him won't be an easy task.
This change was inevitable, however, Sylens is one of the core pillars of Horizon franchise... the "Loki" to Aloy's "Thor" so to speak... they can't simply pull him out for the next games, a replacement is the only solution going forward.
Very glad to see they didn't go for AI voice-over, and chose an actual actor. The best of luck to him!
Elden Ring was my first guess when I first saw the rumor, it's the most likely "inspirational" candidate from everything I've heard so far.
Another possibility would be Zelda Tears of the Kingdom,
depends of the game type and art direction they aim for, but it doesn't seem like their style...
Whatever the case, it was high time they develop a new IP, they've been stuck on Uncharted and TloU since PS3 era.
It doesn't matter if it won't offer the cinematic experience they've become so well known for, as long as it has a good story and engaging gameplay.
Didn't encounter any of those until now.
However a few were in the Hotel it seems (that's where I ended yesterday's session, right at the entrance) - and at the last boss fight. Glad they fixed those too.
After they solve all of the nasty ones, maybe they also manage to fix the water streaming directly from exterior lights in the starting section of the game (roofs not ending directly above, rain not pouring, no logical way for the streams to exist).
And those same vertical water streams passing right through James, without any impact, like he wasn't even there.
Minor things, of course, but they chip away at the immersion.
Fun game. Too many similarities with previous games for it's own good, however.
The IP shout be given a rest for a few years. No DLC should be done for SM2.
Bring it back later with fresh ideas for the 3rd game.
Some people really can't wait for the next piece of news to come around, so they can start complaining again...
Insomniac should do no DLC. SM2 already feels a bit... less... than expected for a sequel. It's fun but also a bit stale, too similar to the previous 2 games, SM1 and SM-MM.
It would certainly benefit from a few years break, and a fresh new direction.
For now it's best if they concentrate all of their efforts on Wolverine until it's out, and make it the best it can be.
new class feels fresh. Yeah. And so overpowered that it outshines all others. Maybe next season they'll balance them all properly. For now it's all about the $$$, plain and simple.
You know, using people to spread the word that the new class available only in the expansion absolutely rules the game... "Get the expansion if you wanna give it a go!"
Yeah. Pay those 40$ now, and don't worry, eh? They'll nerf it later.
Mercenaries. Well ok, the idea is not new. Not bad either. Mostly kinda useless, given the first point, since this season most of us puppeteer a SoulsBorne ...ups, Spiritborn, my bad!
Maybe next season it'll be more helpful after they re-balance the classes...
Awesome cinematics. Well this I'll give them, it has always been Blizzard's strong point. But that can't make up for the game's low points and undewhelming continuation of the story. And it doesn't. Maybe next expansion.
The game is FULL of bugs. Still. What's it been now, 1 year and 4 months? And still feels unfinished. See the daily patches, and the 10k words patch lists. Want one good example? Memory leak problem named Fenris still present in the game since 2023 - the game is gulping up 28GB RAM (!) of 32GB available, about 64GB (!!) of SWAP memory and 19GB (!!!) of VRAM of 24GB available (RTX 3090). So says the game's own log file, nothing invented here... Hell, D4 really rocks those high numbers isn't it? Look out "less graphically impressive" games, like Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, etc - you can't even match what D4 can do! Anyway, still uncorrected. Maybe next season.
Drop problems for different materials - still present... for other materials now compared to previous seasons, so they've done something. Moved it in another area, much appreciated. Hey, maybe next season.
The list could go on, but you get the picture. It's also mentioned at the end of each point above.
Gonna go now. See you in Sanctuary!
And don't lose hope, yes? It'll get better in time! I've already told my 6 years old son he'll have a blast with it in high-school!
Instead of investing a ton in a show that has a very high chance to fail (it's Amazon not HBO...), they'd better make a new game. Tackling the interim period between Greece and the nordic lands would be super... And a setting in Egypt or the Maya region could work wonders if handled properly.
Slashing like Wolverine?
There's nothing of the kind going on...
Those metal elements are too thin for combat.
Maybe for extracting information or something along those lines.
Bloober Team is on a roll!
And coming up with a new IP now, in a period so filled with games in the " Triple Re " category (remakes, remasters reboots).
Good for them, I hope they keep it up!
Good news, was expecting a 7 rating tbh. Peaked my interest from the first trailer released a few months back, , glad to see it's a good game overall. Gonna buy it.
Silent Hill 2 was available 72 hours earlier for those who paid $10 extra
Nein, it was 48 hours, as written on the official description of the Digital Deluxe edition.
The game became available Sunday 06th of Oct, that's 2 days before launching on the 8th.
I bought this version too, so I could play during the weekend, simply because I had some free time then (as opposed to during the following week).
And I'd do it again for a maximum of 10$ price difference, and IF the game fist some standards (good (pr)reviews and game play opinions from various sources, or it comes from a good reputation dev team etc etc).
But for 40$ or more just to play a few days early, like Ubisoft request for it's games, NO SIR ! That's pure greed, and I won't endorse it.
Also there is another angle here: I buy Deluxe Editions for the games that (to me at least) are truly worth it.
Not for the included content (that's good too sometimes, but weighs low on the final decision).
But it's my way of saying "Thank You" to the devs of mentioned epic creations, for all of the hard work and dedication they've invested in them.
Not like the PS5 was truly challenged this gen, in every region...
The only real competition was its own availability during the pandemics. Other than (end even in spite of) that, it outsold Xbox around the globe.
However, if Sony keeps ignoring the enrichment of it's first party portfolio the way they are, those laurels won't last for long...
"Fame is a capricious b....ch", don't keep her well entertained and it'll throw you to the wolves when you least expect it.
@Stephen Wow, Worms Armageddon, what a blast from the past! It's been a lot of years since I've last played it, but I can still hear that Holy bomb go "Haaaallelujah!" ^__^ Fun times, especially if you play it with friends! Enjoy!
Gonna continue Silent Hill 2 Remake, can't wait to get my mitts on the shotgun and show those monstrosities the real meaning of PAIN! ^__^
And mix it up with Diablo IV Vessel of Hatred - that Evade Eagle Spiritborn broken build that's floating around is the very definition of fun! If you play on PC, and have a mouse that has "free scroll" wheel, then go to Options and put evade to be also on the "Mouse Wheel Down" - give that wheel a twirl and hold on to the mouse cursor 'cause there'll be no stopping you!
Remastering old games, selling refurbished hardware... they should also do garage sales for a full trifecta.
Hopefully in a few years they can put a stamp on their budget: "There was a hole here. It's gone now"
Not italian, but even if I was, I would have used the English subtitles. Translations seldom match the content perfectly, in games or movies... They break the immersion more often than not by using unfit words or expressions, either because of the translator's sloppiness, or of language differences.
Of course I'm playing, was eagerly waiting for it since it was announced.
Quite a thrill to be back in SH2 after so many years!
Got my hands on the wooden plank and started roaming the
town. Right away that famous quote popped
up in my head: "Let us cleanse these foul streets!" - fits perfectly!
If only SH2 had the same type of messaging mechanic, would have been awesome ^__^
Anyway, I'm in Wood Side Apartments for now, progressing steadily.
Epic Remake, bravo Bloober Team, congrats for winning the
up-that-silent-hill battle, and beating the odds!
Ubisoft is the very definition of the words "stale" and "milking".
They've made some good games over the years, like AC Odyssey, Far Cy 2 and 3, and the Prince of Persia sands of time trilogy from the 2000's...
But they grow and evolve very very slowly, they milk the same formulas over and over to such extremes that sequels arrive being worse than the originals. They add a few ideas but stick too tightly to the same basic structure of the previous games, or bloat them needlessly . AC Valhalla and Far Cry 4, 5 and 6 are the best examples of "going down the hill".
And innovation is even rarer... Star Wars Outlaws was a good idea in theory, but poorly implemented.
I'm curious to see what AC Shadows will bring, but I'm willing to bet it's the same basic AC open world formula at it's core, with a few new ideas sprinkled on top, all set in a new area... and that's about it. They have some time to improve it, but a few months is not a lot... and they won't be able to extend it, they can NOT afford to go head to head with Ghost of Yotei....
And if AC Shadows flops, that's about it... they can kiss their arse goodbye then and there.
Fans bought them? More likely scalpers preparing in advance... You'll see them explode on Ebay for double the price after the console's launch, when the low stocks dry up completely...
Bought the Deluxe Edition and I'm ~2h in.
It has some quirks here and there, like rain water pouring from exterior lights that have no roof above or very close to them, from which that water can gather and pour... and it's not even raining... Or that same pouring water dropping right through James as if he's not there, no collision whatsoever.
But that's just small potatoes.
It's a very good Remake overall.
No severe bugs encountered (other than the vicious roaches, but you can easily introduce those to your wooden plank ha ha).
No crashes, no weird artifacts.
Framerate is generally stable.
It's more graphically demanding than the GoW Ragnarok port for example, but 4k@60fps is possible with DLSS on Quality and everything on high/max settings on my undervolted RTX 3090 SuprimX (+ 7800X3D, 32GB RAM), so it's all good.
Anyway, to any fan of the OG game still on the fence : it's more than worth the purchase - PS5 or PC - take your pick, and go for it !
Preordered the Deluxe edition of Silent Hill 2 Remake, that's available from today. For now I'm ~2h into it, having a blast around town smacking monsters with a nailed wooden plank, while exploring every building! And only a few broken windows and tried locked doors away from their respective achievements - coming right up! Have a fun weekend everyone!
What's clear cut is that the best the PS5 Pro has to offer at launch are patches for old games, and you are required to pay 800 euros for the "privilege" to replay them.
PS5 Pro is exactly what I need !
I'll be ordering one as soon as PS6 launches.
Hopefully by then it'll receive more than a handful of new 1st party releases, to actually merit the investment.
I'd be up for some new games, in fact, enough with the dust-up of old releases...
Not to mention that Sony's total 1st party portfolio is not infinite, they'll run out of material sooner rather than later.
What are they gonna work on for the PS6, Re-Re-Remasters?
Nixxes should be upgraded to work on new content, new IP's or at least sequels, as they are clearly very talented.
I don't know about the Lego game, but those real life Lego sets would be awesome.
I'd get some for my son if more of them were ever released, as he loves Burrowers, Striders, and even Watchers from the game... He loves converting them and to always have one around while playing.
He'd be besides himself to actually have them as real toys.
On top of the already mentioned reasons, I would add the console sales numbers: PS5 crushes Xbox Series in every part of the world. Any game released on PS5 would benefit from more potential buyers by default, adding an important weight to the platform decision making.
The open world related activities in the first game were novelties at the time, different from the usual "Ubisofty" "go there fetch that".
On my first playthrough I didn't have a problem with them.
The second time around though (after 1 year or so) I wish they were... less in number and more diverse. Especially the chasing ones, golden birds and foxes.
Did enjoy the bamboo cutting though, both times, I hope they add something similar to it in GoY.
Also the flute singing and matching the waves with the gamepad's gyro, introduced in the DLC, that was interesting too, another one they could keep for the sequel.
Is playing the game on Ubisoft+ added into those numbers?
Because that's the cheapest way to play each and every one of their games even at launch, and many people know it.
Paying 18$ for 1 month to play a game that most likely you won't play a second time, trumps paying 70$ for it's retail version any day.
Should I add you have direct access to the Deluxe or Ultimate editions on the service? That's 18$ VS 100-120$ right there.
Looks like Epic Games had more conditions for their huge investment in the sequel, on top of the PC exclusivity on their Store.
Because this line emanates a "corporate BS" aroma to cover a square mile.
Selling an IP's soul and originality for money... that's gonna go down so well.

Re: New PS5, PS4 Games This Week (14th October to 20th October)
Unknown 9: Awakening for me this week.
I'll get it if it has some good review scores (>6-7/10 at least).
Re: Acclaimed PS5 Platformer Astro Bot Really Couldn't Be Selling Any Better
GOTY, obviously.
Re: PS5 May Soon Be Unchallenged by Xbox in Some Regions
Not like the PS5 was truly challenged this gen, in every region...
The only real competition was its own availability during the pandemics. Other than (end even in spite of) that, it outsold Xbox around the globe.
However, if Sony keeps ignoring the enrichment of it's first party portfolio the way they are, those laurels won't last for long...
"Fame is a capricious b....ch", don't keep her well entertained and it'll throw you to the wolves when you least expect it.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550
@Stephen Wow, Worms Armageddon, what a blast from the past!
It's been a lot of years since I've last played it, but I can still hear that Holy bomb go "Haaaallelujah!" ^__^
Fun times, especially if you play it with friends!
Enjoy!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550
Have a fun weekend everyone!
Re: Love Classic Lara Croft? Play the Crap Tomb Raider Trilogy on PS5, PS4
Let me know when they Remaster Legend, Anniversary and Underworld... what may be called "Rebound Trilogy" may be worth the asked sum.
Re: PS5 Pro, 30th Anniversary Consoles Now Available at More Retailers
Why do you even mention Amazon? By the time you manage to put the article together, scalpers have already cleaned Amazon's stocks, from every region.
Re: Sony Now Selling Refurbished PS5 Consoles
Remastering old games, selling refurbished hardware... they should also do garage sales for a full trifecta.
Hopefully in a few years they can put a stamp on their budget:
"There was a hole here. It's gone now"
Re: Silent Hill 2 PS5 Update Removes Italian Language Intro Spoilers
Not italian, but even if I was, I would have used the English subtitles.
Translations seldom match the content perfectly, in games or movies... They break the immersion more often than not by using unfit words or expressions, either because of the translator's sloppiness, or of language differences.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill 2?
Re: Ubisoft Comments on Buyout Reports, Says That It 'Regularly Reviews Options'
Re: PS5 Pro Prompts Sony's Disc Drive to Rocket Up the Charts
Fans bought them? More likely scalpers preparing in advance... You'll see them explode on Ebay for double the price after the console's launch, when the low stocks dry up completely...
Re: Silent Hill 2 (PS5) - The Horror Great Remains So in This Excellent Remake
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 549
Re: PS5 Pro Boost Is Pretty Clear Cut in The Last of Us 2 Remastered Comparison Video
What's clear cut is that the best the PS5 Pro has to offer at launch are patches for old games, and you are required to pay 800 euros for the "privilege" to replay them.
Re: PS5 Pro Will Reportedly Boost PS4 Games, and Reduce PSVR2 Motion Sickness
PS5 Pro is exactly what I need !
I'll be ordering one as soon as PS6 launches.
Hopefully by then it'll receive more than a handful of new 1st party releases, to actually merit the investment.
Re: Nixxes Dev Refers to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered as 'First Big PlayStation Content Project'
Re: These LEGO Horizon Adventures Machines Will Make You Want a Real Life Set
I don't know about the Lego game, but those real life Lego sets would be awesome.
I'd get some for my son if more of them were ever released, as he loves Burrowers, Striders, and even Watchers from the game... He loves converting them and to always have one around while playing.
He'd be besides himself to actually have them as real toys.
Re: Microsoft Is Investigating Why Devs Are Prioritising PS5 Over Xbox
On top of the already mentioned reasons, I would add the console sales numbers: PS5 crushes Xbox Series in every part of the world.
Any game released on PS5 would benefit from more potential buyers by default, adding an important weight to the platform decision making.
Re: Ghost of Yotei's Gorgeous Open World Will Be Less Repetitive Than Tsushima's
Re: Report Finds Lack of Star Wars Outlaws Sales Disturbing
Is playing the game on Ubisoft+ added into those numbers?
Because that's the cheapest way to play each and every one of their games even at launch, and many people know it.
Paying 18$ for 1 month to play a game that most likely you won't play a second time, trumps paying 70$ for it's retail version any day.
Should I add you have direct access to the Deluxe or Ultimate editions on the service? That's 18$ VS 100-120$ right there.
Re: Lords of the Fallen PS5 Sequel Prioritising 'Elevated Production Values', More 'Commercial' Art Style
more commercial art style and narrative
Looks like Epic Games had more conditions for their huge investment in the sequel, on top of the PC exclusivity on their Store.
Because this line emanates a "corporate BS" aroma to cover a square mile.
Selling an IP's soul and originality for money... that's gonna go down so well.
