Re: Want More Silent Hill on PS5? You May Not Have to Wait Long

Shinnok789

Silent Hill: Townfall itself is said to be an atmospheric adventure game without combat.
Pft... lost me right there, running and hiding like a scared little mouse instead of picking up a stick or smth and bonking monstrosities with it is not my cup of coffee. Not asking for guns or explosives, but no combat at all is a turn off for me.

Silent Hill 2 has the best balance between fighting back and feeling powerless... It's still the best game in the series, not even Silent Hill f surpasses it.

Btw, they screwed Silent Hill f from the start by implying it's all a bad case of psychosis, all in the protagonists head and not her actual reality... Something that didn't happen in SH2 or 3 for example, where they throw you in and let you figure it out. Didn't play more than 3h for now, so maybe it will get better later on, but this scenario was a big turn off from the start, with heavy impact on the overall scare factor... I hope the do better next time.

Re: People Don't Buy Anywhere Near As Many Games As You Think

Shinnok789

At launch I get less than 4 or 5 games a year - maybe - very much depending on the titles. This year I got Ghost of Yotei at launch, and that's it, and it's October already.

For the rest of them I keep an eye out for promotions, discount periods, CD Key sites (on which the prices mainly go down constantly over time), etc.
Having both a PS5 and a PC helps a lot with the number of available discount opportunities.

Even make proper use of some services if needed, like getting 1 month of Ubisoft+ to play AC Shadows at launch, that being 18$ instead of 70$ or whatever it's base price was.

Or using one of those smart methods to get more Game Pass for less money (last year I got 19 months of it for about 100$, and still have it 'till June 2026... and until now I've had day one access to Indiana Jones, Doom The Dark Ages, Atomfall, Hollow Knight Silksong, Oblivion Remastered, STALKER 2 Hellblade II etc.).
Of course PS+ also brings access to games, but most of Sony's 1st party titles I've already bought over the years, and the 3rd party titles are available faster (and a lot of times cheaper) on PC.

Re: Poll: What Are Your First Impressions of Ghost of Yotei on PS5?

Shinnok789

Excellent game. There's a lot more stuff in the game that i haven't heard about in any of the reviews, and I've watched a few (most likely because of spoilers).
The first couple of hours may be a little slow, but then, the more hours you spend in it, the more you want to play.
So, to those on the fence: take it, actually play it, there's a lot more depth to it below the surface. At the end of the day, if a game manages to make you want to return, it's a worthy investment.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Getting Sick of Sony's Supposedly 'Samey' Approach to Story Telling?

Shinnok789

They've dropped the ball a bit with Ghost of Yotei's story, a gathering of people hurting/killing your family and you hunting them down over the course of the game... been told and retold before (AC Odyssey? AC Shadows? others...)

But for the rest of the 1st party games, story-wise, I don't see a problem with any of them...

Frankly if the GoY story chose a different path, the article wouldn't have existed imo.
Subtle or not, there's enough diversity in the older 1st party titles stories that it doesn't justify generalizing.

Re: Romeo Is a Dead Man Gives Wolverine PS5's Gore a Run for Its Money

Shinnok789

Neah, too much blood splashing and not much else.
Wolverine is explicit, visual, precise in it's visceral action.
This one is a mixted up mess... the added light flashes, energies and damage numbers take up too much screen space, at times covering quite a lot of the action itself. Also the contrast and color choices for enemies and environment need some work...

Re: Sony Celebrates 20 Years of God of War with New PS5 Controller

Shinnok789

Very disappointing this is. God Of War is supposed to be a "crown-jewel" IP - and this is the best they can do, squish a red stripe on a regular controller and call it "limited edition" ??

I mean take for example the Gamesir G7 Pro Wuchang Fallen Feathers edition - that's how a "game-specific" custom gamepad is done properly!
TMR sticks, HE triggers, microswitch buttons and d-pad, 4 extra mappable buttons, removable faceplate, included charging stand, braided custom USB-C cable and 2 extra d-pad caps. And the fabulous overall design on the gamepad, stand and the cable!... And all that for 100$, about the same as a custom DS these days...
Take a look Sony, and a sh...ton of notes!

Re: PS5 Pro Users Starting to Feel a Little Shortchanged After Poor or Absent Support

Shinnok789

This seems to be on the devs, and not allocating time to implement p(i)ssr in their games.
Most likely because titles were already in development before PS5 Pro, and the approximate launch date already set - the extra time needed to optimize them for the Pro not included.
Also it's poor customer handling, no apology, no timetable for a patch that brings the needed optimizations, nothing... of course people are miffed... I'm not a PS5 Pro owner, but
I'd be PSSR too in this case, given the console's cost.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Borderlands 4?

Shinnok789

Maybe I'll play it, but not at those prices, not with pay-walled story missions and not with those performance issues - it'll be some 3+ years from now when i'll cost about 10-20$ for the game + everything included, all patched and optimized.

For right now I'll buy Ghost of Yotei and Silent Hill f - they're worth a hell of a lot more.

Re: What PS5 Games Have the Best Graphics?

Shinnok789

This would have served everyone a LOT better as a poll.

Alas, here we go:

  • Horizon FW and Horizon ZD-R, hands down. There were a lot of places especially in FW when I just had to stop to admire the scenery and take a photo, to make a wallpaper out of it. Absolutely gorgeous games!
  • Uncharted 4/LL and The Last Of Us Remakes - the facial animations alone make them top tier, not to mention very good looking locales.
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • soon to come Ghost of Yotei (not released yet but Oct 2nd is only 3 weeks away)
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Alan Wake 2
  • God Of War 2018 and Ragnarok
  • Demon's Souls Remake

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS1 at Launch?

Shinnok789

I skipped the PS1... my first console was a Sega Megadrive, after which I became a PC gamer in the early 00's.
My first PS console was the PS2 Slim, which I got SH in 2007 specifically to play God Of War 1 and 2... such an awesome take on the Greek Legends, was like a dream come true, I just had to play them!
And I've owned every PS console generation since then (I actually still have the phat PS3 80GB and the PS4 Pro alongside my OG PS5).

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on 007 First Light?

Shinnok789

Nathan "00" Drake if he was a secret agent...
After seeing the PS SoP, I'm leaning towards it ending up an "all flash, low substance" title, to paraphrase the line, just like other titles before it.
Hope I'm wrong, but... I'm gonna wait for reviews first.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5?

Shinnok789

Already finished the OG's campaign 2 times over the years, not worth replaying, remastered or not.
And MP is not for me.

There are other upcoming titles worth my attention a lot more than this old game.

While eagerly waiting for Ghost of Yotei on October 2nd:

  • POE 2's newest patch is next on the list this week, followed by:
  • Hell is Us on Sept. 4th
  • Silent Hill f on Sept. 25th

Oh, and Painkiller comes right after Yotei on October 9th
Strong autumn season debut!
