Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 254

RedMageLanakyn

@MonkeyDLuffy19 Graphics aren't everything, and normally I wouldn't think twice about how XC2 looks, it was just a bit jarring coming from DQ11. The blade system is definitely in depth, and combat looks simplistic but has some nuance with timed hits, hitting on the last part of a combo, attacking from front, side, back, etc. I'm sure it'll keep me busy for awhile!

@KingdomHeartsFan I'm only about 6 hours in, and I've never played any previous Xenoblade entries, so I don't think I would be able to give you a good answer to that. I received it as a Christmas present, and it's a good time killer during downtime at work for me. I will say IMO the music is fantastic, one of the best scores I've heard in awhile.

Also, once you get multiple people in your party, there is a lot, and I mean a LOT of banter before/during/after battles, to the point that you can't make sense of it all. And each character only has a few lines so they repeat constantly. You can turn it down or off, but it would be nice to have a "talk less" option.

Re: Bungie Splits from Activision, Takes the Rights to Destiny

RedMageLanakyn

@jdv95 Bungie has been an independent company since their split with MS in 2007, they only had a publishing deal with Activision for Destiny. So for them to move forward with Destiny 3, they most likely will need assistance from another larger company. Whether that means they will be "bought" is another subject entirely, although it's certainly not off the table.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #1 - God of War

RedMageLanakyn

While I wouldn't call it the greatest comeback of all time, (that goes to Capcom/RE7/RE2 Remake) this game was a true evolution of a one trick pony into a multi-tasking bada**. They don't even need to change up the formula for the sequel, just bring on more of what they have created. WORD. UP. SON.

@OmegaYato I'm not offended, and you're speaking your opinion, which is not fact, except in your head.

@JJ2 He made a snide comment, so I returned with one. I never called him out on anything he said. He's clearly very full of himself if you look at what he is saying.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Best Story

@ShogunRok Fair enough, I just didn't see it in your top 5 of the year either, so I was curious. I'm the same way with RDR2, got through it, but it really didn't click with me as it appears to with others, and I'm ok with all the praise it receives.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Best Indie Game

RedMageLanakyn

Loved Dead Cells and Hollow Knight for sure. Celeste definitely feels overrated, felt like an average game at best to me. The Messenger is a fantastic indie game as well, hopefully it comes to PS4 sooner rather than later.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #4 - Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

RedMageLanakyn

This game on PC with the orchestral mod installed has easily sucked me in at 60+ hours, and I'm just now reaching the post endgame content. Yes, it is repetitive, but it is touted as an old school JRPG, so it's not like you don't know what you're getting yourself into. Easily the best JRPG I've played in years, definitely up there with DQ8.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Robert's Personal Picks

RedMageLanakyn

DQ is definitely in my top 3 for the year as well. One day I'll try to figure out what people find so special about RDR2, but everything I've seen so far just doesn't interest me. I don't want realism in my games, I want to toss an axe and recall it, and perform flashy DBZ finishers disguised as DQ spells

Merry Christmas, and thank you for not going the route of NL (having a dedicated clickbait writer for day and night.) You have my thanks and my clicks with your higher quality content.

@Ps4_all_the_way It's all good, I'm a big fan of GT myself, and I'm sure the current game is good, I've just found alternatives in the lapses between them that are just as good if not better IMO. Just really not a fan of "games as a service" and it looks like they're adding in SP content as well, I just prefer to slap a disc in and do an update or two and be able to play if I'm not online.
