Re: You'll be Able to Play PS4 Games on Sony's New Xperia Smartphones

RawShark

@SimonAdebisi yeah I would have liked that too. It might still happen though. I guess the only reason they haven't is that it would basically be an admission that the vita controls aren't up to par.

Another thought. Is that photo for real? Isn't that phone absolutely massive? Of is it a mini tablet? At any rate if they can make a racket for that monstrosity they can make one for the Vita.

Re: Review: The Walking Dead: Season 2, Episode 5 - No Going Back (PlayStation Network)

RawShark

And again... SPOILERS!!!

By the sounds of it people chose some different endings to the one I went with. (I think the stats showed I was with about 14% of others who'd played it).

I found myself sticking with Kenny through sheer loyalty. It was actually quite heart wrenching. I could see him getting worse and worse, becoming abusive and unstable, but I couldn't force myself to turn against him like the others did. It reminded me of Papo & Yo - despite him being an abusive father figure, I felt Clem still loved him no matter what. Besides, Jane's plan with AJ was f*****g stupid.

I'm only sorry I never had the option to shoot that Russian kid. I'd have done it as soon as he led us to the house.

Re: Metal Slug 3 Runs and Guns Its Way onto the PS4, PS3, and Vita

RawShark

If I'm not mistaken, the Metal Slug games were pure arcade shooters whereas Mercenary Kings was a loot'em up disguised as an arcade shooter. So despite Merc Kings paying Metal Slug an obvious visual homage, they are quite different.

Besides I didn't think Merc Kings was bad. It just isn't the easiest game to get into. The 7/10 review you guys gave it was pretty fair to me.

Re: Feature: What Are September 2014's Free PlayStation Plus Games?

RawShark

I think I can understand the complaints seeing as there's only one retail title on offer this month. Usually for PS3 and Vita one would be a downloadable version of a boxed title and the other a PSN title. Obviously that's not an option for PS4 and I guess maybe the pool for Vita has shrunk to the point that maybe it'snot possible anymore. But PSABR has come up time and time again on people's wish lists on the EU forum at least, so some people will be happy with it at least.

But not me. The best part aboput that game for me was going to the launch party two years ago. Open bar, cupcakes, and at one point I was wearing a Sly Cooper costume. Nice. The game itself was never going to live up to that.

Re: PS4 Shooter Velocity 2X Flies for Free in September PS Plus Update

RawShark

I think this month is saved by three of the titles being Cross Buy. Something for everybody indeed. Even so, have to say that this month still leaves me a little cold. No probs with Velocity 2X - I'd have bought that anyway. I've wanted to try Sportsbuddies so that's fine but it's a pain that I need to get a friend around to actually do so.

The PS3 titles are the weakest of the lot - I picked up PSASBR at launch. It's getting on two years old now and in all honesty was never a great game to begin with. I might dive into it one more time as there'll be an increase in the multiplayer pool. I played the demo for Hoard and I can't see many people being pleased by it's appearance on the list.

I've already picked up TxK - it's alright... it's not a game I feel compelled to play very often. And Joe Danger - I'm glad it's there as I've heard good things about it.

So it's not a total loss, but it's not going to be distracting many people from Destiny by the looks of it. With Driveclub coming next month I'm hoping they've been holding back on a few big titles to accompany it.

Re: Review: Hotline Miami (PlayStation 4)

RawShark

The PS3/Vita version comes up in sales quite a bit. I think I picked my one up in a sale before it went out as a Plus update. At any rate look at the score! It's well worth the fiver or however little it costs. And now I get to share my rampages? Nice!

The rampages can also get unintentionally hilarious when your meticulously planned raid all comes undone because you didn't figure for one little thing... like running out of ammo and running around in a panic as the last guy chases you round the house with a baseball bat.

Re: Gamescom 2014: PlayStation Vita Largely Ignored During Sony's Show

RawShark

The sad truth is that real estate at a key notes presentation is at a premium and Sony are focussing their efforts on the console that is actually returning a profit. Vita support will continue as the console trundles along, but I wouldn't expect any more exciting exclusives that haven't already been announced.

For what it's worth, the news that Papers, Please will be released on Vita was all I wanted to hear.

Re: Hotline Miami Hurts People on PS4 Later This Month

RawShark

Sweet. I still reckon this game is best on Vita and I doubt it'll add anything to the PS3 version, but nice to have the option.

And what a game it is. Everyone should experience the sadistic thrill of throwing a pan of boiling water in someone's face at least once.

Re: Snow Joke! Sony Seemingly Teases Until Dawn PS4 Re-Reveal for GamesCom

RawShark

UNtil Dawn seems like one of those games that no one asked for that just keeps popping up every now and then to let us know it's still coming out. Now the David Cage bubble has pretty much burst it's only fans of this particular horror genre that should be still looking out for it. Personally my expectations are low and it's looking like a title I'll probably be happy to miss.

Re: BioShock's Swimming to a Smartphone Near You, But Not the PlayStation Vita

RawShark

If it makes you feel better it looks like it will be a sucky port. In all honesty the game must be coming on ten years old now - if anyone was going to play it I'd say they'd have done so by now. If you've been hiding under a rock for all this time and still want to play it, then a game as dark, brooding and atmospheric as Bioshock NEEDS to be played on a proper screen in the dark (ideally with at least a 5.1 sound system), and not on a phone or tablet. Options are plentiful... PC, PS3 or Xbox 360 - and a second hand copy will probably cost you less than this download.

Re: Seize Your Moment with the PlayStation Now Open Beta

RawShark

@SimonAdebisi Fair point. Especially the older titles where the difference between owning a used copy and renting for a few hours on Now is only a few dollars.

I was expecting a more netflix style subscription service - pay X a month to get unlimited access to X games. (Although that's basically what Plus is, come to think of it).

Re: PS4 Indie Road Not Taken Follows a Free Path in August PlayStation Plus Update

RawShark

Already have Fez from when it came out on Xbox - great treat for anyone who hasn't played it yet, but I won't be replaying it.

The Road Less Travelled - Not sure. Can't pass judgement yet, But to be honest we've been pretty well covered for Rogue-likes with Don't Starve, and in all honesty that was a game I couldn't get into, so I can't say I'm too excited.

Crysis 3 - I dunno. I still have Crysis 2 on my download list from when that was on Plus. It's not screaming out for me to play it. Not my cup of tea I guess.

Proteus - Yep, happy with that. Came close to buying it at one point so glad to see it on the list.

Metrico - Have to be honest, I have no idea what to make of this game. Guess I'll have to play it and see.

Lego Harry Potter - Another f***ing Vita lego game? I wouldn't be too peeved about a 3DS port if it was a decent game, but these are pretty dire.

So not a big win this month. But kudos for getting some new releases in there. Just no more portable lego games for god's sake.

Re: August PlayStation Plus Leaked Lineup Dismissed by Devs

RawShark

Surely Oddworld would be off the cards as it was only released last week?

Of these I think I have Blood Dragon (I think I bought it on impulse in a sale... so long ago I'm not sure). I think I have previous Saints Row games but of course I've not gotten round to playing them on account of being so behind on my backlog. And Sandbox games are just so bloody long! I like value for money as much as the next guy, but their proliferation has made it really difficult to get anything done. Especially when they expect you to play it through twice. Infamous I'm looking at you! You little ****. But I digress...

So I'm guessing we'll all know more either tomorrow or Thursday?

Re: Soapbox: Why Destiny Still Has a Lot to Prove to Me

RawShark

I enjoyed the beta, although I wished I could have spent more time with it... obviously it's a stunning game to look and it will really show off my PS4, but I'm also going to hold off on a purchase. With Borderlands 2 still sitting in my backlog, I think it might be a good idea to play through that to see if I can really dig the loot n' craft style games. I'm sure it will look just as good one year down the line.

Re: You're Probably Not Going to Get in PS4's LittleBigPlanet 3 Beta

RawShark

I was always really good on the play aspect of LBP. Always got all the bubbles, aced every level, played nicely, was very polite about even the most half hearted of player created levels...

Always hit a creative block when it came to creating anything. I think half the problem was a lack of any artistic talent. The other half was refusing to just knock out a rubbish level and impose it upon others.

So yeah, no beta for me.

Re: Sony Taints Vita Exclusive Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines with Download Requirement

RawShark

@Punished_Boss Yep, nail on the head - it's a cost cutting exercise. I also think it's preemptive push for the Playstation TV. Soon people are going to be able to have access to the digital store for a relatively low entry price, so I can understand their focus on digital downloads to an extent. It doesn't make it any less frustrating for those of us with a packed memory card though.

Re: Review: The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy (PlayStation Vita)

RawShark

Portable Ratchet & Clank has been a bit of a mixed bag before. Size Matters in the PSP had elements that were borderline unfinished. Not to mention a skyboarding mini game that had to be the most diabolically bad excuse for a side quest I think I've ever encountered. But overall it got more things right than it got wrong. I guess this collection continues the theme of tentative recommendations. For me the best R&C is still Tools of Destruction.

Re: You'll Probably Never, Ever Earn These PS4 Trophies

RawShark

All too hardcore for me. It's a sad testament to my gaming ability that I tend to get my rarest trophies through endless grinding rather than skill. I only just picked up the Ni No Kuni platinum last weekend after 109 hours of playtime behind me - a considerable percentage of which was spent trying to catch that bloody Lotus Bubud.

The most jaw clenchingly frustrating trophy I ever forced myself to get was probably the Lunatics Unite Plat on Motorstorm RC. The process of shaving off the last few seconds of my laptimes had me screaming at the game's tendency to flip my car seemingly at random, or even worse, have it reset the car as if it had gone out of bounds when it was quite clearly still on the track.

Re: Blimey, Only Four in Ten PlayStation Games Actually Make Money

RawShark

For every game like Minecraft that sells a billion there's many more that are roundly ignored by the media and consumers at large. Most can only hope of getting a cult following. Even flagship games like Little Big Planet struggled to make a dent in the charts. That being said, (and I know I'm repeating myself, sorry) there's something wrong when a game like Tomb Raider is considered a financial disappointment even after topping the charts and selling a million in its first week of release. It reeks of an industry that just can't sustain itself. Hence the proliferation of indies that everyone keeps moaning about nowadays.
