Re: Rumour: PS4's Free PlayStation Plus Game May Be PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate in June

RawShark

I've got to stop reading these comment boards as I'm starting to lose faith in humanity.

For me, this would be a great choice. Shooter is in several sites Best PS3 Games ever lists but one I never got round to picking up. So if all is as it appears then we should be getting the definitive version of one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last gen - one which apparently many people overlooked. Personally I'd rather this game than Knack any day of the week.

I'll say this one more time then shut up - a lot of the best games of the last gen were indies! Fez, Limbo, Braid, Castle Crashers, the Telltale adventures, even freaking Minecraft for God's sake. Not only that, but AAA gaming has gotten to the point where a game like Tomb Raider can sell 6 million copies (1 million of those in 48 hours) and STILL be considered a financial disappointment! The industry can't support itself like that any longer! That's why the Indie movement has been the breakout success of the last gen and why it's on the grow.

If you want to play your big budget games on PS4, cool. They're all there. But don't kid yourself, you're going to be paying a heavy premium for that for a long while to come. Because apart from the lite version of DriveClub and apparently one evergreen release to be announced soon, it's going to be an indie showcase on the PS4 plus side of things.

And you shouldn't be so surprised about it - when they announced the PS4 it was one of the main selling points. I mean were you guys not there? They had a power point demonstration and everything.

Re: Review: Cel Damage HD (PlayStation 4)

RawShark

I TOLD everyone this was a do-nothing, middle of the road game even when it first came out, and was roundly booed in various forums. It was just part of the Cel Shaded fad that hit in the mid 2000s and while some games pulled off the cartoon aesthetic (Wind Waker), a lot were just plain ugly. They even made a whole Spider-man series on MTV in the cel shaded style and it was bloody awful!

If you were going to go for one game on PlayStation to represent the cel shaded fad, you'd be mad not to pick up Jet Set Radio HD instead... or an old copy of Wacky Racers. I'd leave this one well alone.

Re: Review: The Walking Dead: Season 2, Episode 3 - In Harm's Way (PlayStation Network)

@get2sammyb I guess it's one of the challenges of reviewing episodic games as they're released. Some things can be taken as unique to each episode, and others can be rubber stamped on each episode. Personally speaking, next time I'll be waiting for all episodes to be released and then picking them up together - for no other reason than it will help me retain continuity with my decisions in the previous episodes.

I do hope the engine is being revamped, I really do. The problem is that Telltale seem to be trying to put out as much content as possible in a relatively short time frame. Can't blame them really - it's a precarious job that can see studios close in a blink of an eye. It makes me wonder how many resources they have left to put towards building a new engine though.

This time out, playing on an Xbox, I didn't have any real issues with the engine or encounter any glitches. There was a weird occurence with the last episode of the Wolf Among Us though which involved Bigby fighting an invisible Tweedle Dee. That really took the wind out of the series most dramatic moment.

@sanquine - why would they factor in the vita port of Season 1 when reviewing of a season 2 episode? It's not even out for vita yet. Have you even played this episode?

I wonder if it's still worth pointing out the engine's issues - it's obvious it's not going to change for the duration of the season.

I'm in two minds about this episode. In terms of storytelling and drama, it was excellent. But looking back, I struggle to think of when it actually felt like I was playing a game, rather than making a series of choices. To put it another way, it felt a long ways from Monkey Island and closer to Phoenix Wright. But with an occasional QTE.

Re: Feature: Why Sony's 'Leaked' PS4 Press Conference Is Pure Fan Fiction

RawShark

This year's E3 prersentation will be a three hour long reveal of The Last Guardian - delving into how they gave the Puppy-Griffin a working digestive system and how all of the PS4's processing power is put to use to construct the size and consistency of its poop. As no two poops will ever be the same, it is expected that it will create a massive following via the PS4's Share button, where players upload their best poops. Players can tread the poop into the houses of NPCs, causing them much distress. Players can fling poop at royalty and spark off riots. Players can roll around in the poop and try to hug people, who will run away.

Yep - write that down. My prediction.

Re: Review: Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Duels (PlayStation Network)

I had one of the GBA games at one point too. It was a fair approximation of the card game... The thing is, so long as you had a frankenstein card and a three headed Blue eyes dragon, you couldn't lose. You'd sacrifice the frankenstein, summon the blue eyes ridiculously early on in a game, and it was over before it started. I'm guessing this got nerfed in the series at some point...

Re: You Can Download Free DLC for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Right Now

RawShark

I've had Ground Zeroes since launch but have to say I've not spent a lot of time with it, which is weird as someone who usually loves the MGS series. Maybe I'm finding it hard to get to grips with the new mechanics, or maybe it's the OCD in me telling me I've not played Peace Walker all the way through yet and should do that before committing a Time Paradox...

Re: You Can Buy These PlayStation Games for Less Than a Dollar

RawShark

The day Uncharted 4 gets officially announced I'm going to start replaying all of Naughty Dogs back catalogue. From Crash 1 all the way to TLOU. Not necessarily to completion but as much of each game as I can stand before moving on. Figure it might make for a good video blog.

Re: This Is How Beyond: Two Souls' Ellen Page Would Look on PS4

RawShark

@Fire-and-Water heh. Nailed it on the head. When all was said and done and after we all "pressed X to Beck" it just wasn't as good a game as Heavy Rain. It was a game that sold itself on replayability, but I was very happy to leave after one play. Worth a punt. But only the once. No double dip.

Re: The Last of Us Remastered's First PS4 Trailer Drinks in the View

RawShark

Agreed. Massive spoiler. It's weird - taken out of context you'd never think it would be. But when you get to that moment in the game... Even if you had any clue that it was coming it would just decimate the impact of the scene.

In all honesty I can't justify double dipping at full price. Even though it's probably my favourite game of all time. I'll give it a few years, I think. It's not going anywhere.

Re: Rumour: April PlayStation Plus Content Lineup Includes Sly Cooper and PES 2014 in Europe

@Reverandjames ah sorry - been much discussion on this topic and I must have mixed you up with someone else. This month isn't the strongest there's been, (I picked up Hotline Miami in the sales too - after this and Tomb Raider I've learned my lesson to not buy stuff in sales any more), but they have to get a decent mix of genres in the selection. You and me might not be into football and motorsports, but other folks are. It's a service for everyone, and as such you can't win them all. One thing I have noticed is that they're trying to keep their choices above the 70 metascore mark. Which is a good way to go.

I guess it all depends on whether you can bear to let go of all the other games you've picked up via Plus while you've been a member. I've actually sold boxed copies of games I owned when they became available on PS Plus, so I'm in it for the long run
