Do you long to play PlayStation 4 games while using the bathroom, but don't want to invest in a PlayStation Vita? Well, Sony now has the solution for you, as its recently announced that its new range of Xperia smartphones will be compatible with remote play. That's right, one of the Vita's most unique features is now being shared with the firm's perilously pricey smart devices.
Specifically, the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact will be joining the fun. What's more, the Japanese giant will be releasing a nifty little clip that will allow you to firmly secure your smart device to a Dualshock 4 controller. This means that you won't have to fumble around with touch controls as you attempt to wipe out the DUP from the comfort of your lavatory.
Does this feature appeal to you? Have you already been using remote play feature on the Vita, or do you prefer a big screen? Let us know in the comments section below.

That's a neat feature.
And I still don't have a smartphone after all these years, but I have to say the Xperia line looks really good.
I'm glad to see Sony giving Xperia another chance.
Why can't they make an attachment clip for the vita? I love remote play, but the vitas controls make it a chore with most games !!
Could be for PS Now likewise
I've yet to acquire a tablet as I play games on my note phone. But this is tempting. Just wish sony tablets weren't so pricey
R.I.PS Vita.
And the reason Sony has the Vita?
They're giving people more reasons to not get a Vita. Great...
@XFsWorld If you mainly care about Remote Play, yes.
I think most people got their PSVita to play PSVita games.
@Cyrso Yeah I got my Vita for the Vita games, but I have heard some people bought the Vita for remote play.
@Dual-shock-spok some games, well only killzone, change the controls specifically for remote play on vita. I wish they all took the time to do this, crimson land is unplayable. I use my vita as a third controller sometimes as well.
A thought. If they're doing this for tablets as well as phones (I.e. Something that can't be clipped to the DS4 and has to stand on it's own) then surely they'd allow DS4 connectivity to the Vita as well? In a way I'm surprised they haven't done so already.
@RawShark I find it disgraceful
@SimonAdebisi that they haven't enabled DS4 comparability with the Vita, or that they're allowing remote play on phones and tablet?
Why would this get chose over the vita no doubt the price tag would be 600+ or a ridiculously expensive contract, plus in my eyes the vita is a stand alone console not a ps4 accessory
Abit pissed as i just got the z2 about 3 month ago.
@RawShark that they still haven't bothered to sync ds4 with vita, it don't have all the buttons, don't advertise remote play, just lazy Sony again
This is awesome news! Should be around the time I upgrade my Xperia Z
@SimonAdebisi I agree you should be able to easily sync with ds4 controllers because for most games it's just not accurate playing with the vita and using the rear touch pad.
So I'm guessing if the phone was a higher resolution screen then vita, remote play would also be higher resolution making it the better option for remote play?
Also imagine using a mhl cable on your phone that your using for remote play. Portable ps4 that you can plug into any hd tv in your house. Could be good
@SimonAdebisi yeah I would have liked that too. It might still happen though. I guess the only reason they haven't is that it would basically be an admission that the vita controls aren't up to par.
Another thought. Is that photo for real? Isn't that phone absolutely massive? Of is it a mini tablet? At any rate if they can make a racket for that monstrosity they can make one for the Vita.
Oh why would syncing the vita to a ds4 help? How the he'll are u going to hold the ds4 and vita? And don't say u want to clip it to the ds4 that's just silly and moaning for moaning sake. Vita is a stand alone console that happens to have remote play. Sony are bring remote play to all their devices as playstation brand is there best seller so it makes sense for them to integrate remote play. Just be happy u have another device to play playstation on. Plus how is vita dead? For one of the phones or tablets u can buy 3 vitas
@NEOTDS
The same way you would a tablet, using a dock of some sort. The PSP Go had this feature so I find it funny they removed it with the Vita.
The thing is while this is a smart move on Sony's part, its also one less reason for people to buy a Vita. Its a stand-alone device so theres nothing stopping someone who bought it for remote-play also buying a few games. A phone on the other hand is something you'll likely have regardless, and while more expensive have much more utility than a Vita. If someone would buy a $600 computer laptop why wouldn't they buy a $600 phone or tablet? Isn't your typical mac easily twice that?
Was going to upgrade my phone soon so this could be just the ticket!!
Brilliant 2 months into a 24 month contract with an xperia z2. If I'd of known I would of waited

Sony makes beautiful and amazing phones. I'm hoping to get me an Xperia Z3. If my parents let me get my own T-Mobile contract and pay my own phone bill, since its not gonna be on Verizon.
Whole thing looks off balance and lopsided, not for me ill stick with the vita..
@NEOTDS
I'd like to clip it to the DS4. I fail to see why you have such difficulty with that. I'd also like the option to sit the Vita on a stand and use the DS4 to play PS4 games properly. Wanting an option to work correctly is not moaning.
And the phones are a threat to the Vita because they are something pay for separately for many uses. Almost everyone has a smart phone, they may not have a dedicated handheld games console and now someone with a Sony smartphone has less reason to buy a Vita.
@electrolite77
Work properly? The vita is a flawless piece of kit it works as it's supposed to.
If u want to use a ds4 then come November buy playstation tv. Ive got mine on order.
Plus I don't see it as a threat if anything it is going to introduce more people to playstation especially when playstation now comes to these devices.
I plan on snagging the Galaxy Note 4 and it's a pretty damn powerful new phone so I hope they release some kind of software to allow it to play on that device let alone other strong smart phones, heck I don't care if I have to pay!
I have an Xperia Z and love it. This is going to be coming up around the time I "need" an upgrade. I'm curious to see how well it works compared to Vita.
Also, I'd honestly have very little use for my Vita if this ends up working well. As much as I enjoy it, the controls on Vita are no where near as good or comfortable as the Dualshock 4.
