hopefully this will sell well enough for kojima to fund a few more big projects but i don't expect sales to surpass ds1 at 5m+ copies.
back to the main question: yes, it is certainly over for ps vr and has been for some time. it's over for vr on the whole, across the entire industry... for now. it might make a resurgence in another 10+ years when things advance more, but it has been such a collossal failure that i don't know who will be willing to get back into the ring.
@CWill97 metaphor was announced as far back as 2016 and didn't release until 2024. persona 5 had a similarily long wait. this seems to be the general practice with these studios. but i agree, i don't think persona 6 will release before persona 4 remake... so it's looking like a 2028 crossgen game for ps5/ps6.
that means persona 6 isnt coming out until 2028 at the earliest. it will be another late console release which is typical of atlus in every console generation haha... ps6 will be out by then.
i was surprised to learn that there are over 30m youtube channels currently... over 4m influencers on twitch alone. considering the state of affairs in that space, i don't think it's too far fetched to assume that 1-2m of the 3.5m switch 2's purchased at launch went to influencers. could be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me.
it's by far my least favourite sony console all the same. the article did a good job framing the context in how those numbers are generated, though, which greatly diminishes the outcome. in other words, not much of an accomplishment when the bulk of sony's profits are related to MTX and higher margins on psn that didn't even exist in the first two ps console generations and were in their infancy with the ps3. an unfair comparison on so many levels but it is what it is.
what does it matter? nobody knew this game existed more than 3 months ago. it's not like there was years of interest and anticipation and it didn't live up to expectations. really weird to see people go to bat for this game or act like they were going to buy it on day one. who is really that stupid with their money?
it completely dwarfs the psp go - it is more than twice as thick and has double the weight. why is it that 15 years after the launch of the go, and all the modern tech they have at their disposal, they were unable to keep the size down? it's barely pocketable. getting a 0.9" larger screen with the anbernic is a nice upgrade over the go, but ultimately there are far too many tradeoffs. better off waiting for revision 2 or 3 of this thing when they shrink the size down (they likely made it huge on purpose to get people to double and triple dip like they do with all their devices). this is quite a failure as it stands. the psp go is still an amazing handheld and i'm glad i got it on the cheap before it became scarce and expensive.
i'm sure they do, which is why 90% of their ps4/ps5 catalogue has already made it to pc 0_o
after this gen comes to a close, hopefully sony will come to the realization that their pc porting efforts did not help the brand and may have in fact lost them revenue in the long term due to a shrinking playstation userbase. remember, losing a user from your ecosystem (to pc) means you lose all software purchased from said user, not just the specific sony published games that got ported to pc. that is a very bad tradeoff from a business perspective. i have no doubt that sony will lose countless millions of users now that they have opened the floodgate to pc.
also, let's face it, some of their pc ports did not perform well at all. the costs to port the game to pc vs the sales may have even lost them money in some cases.
if nintendo took this road, they would lose at least 25% of their platform install base without question. maybe up to 50%, who knows. nintendo is wise enough not to even flirt with the idea unless they were in a dire situation and had no choice (and even then they would hate the idea haha).
gaming wasn't as mainstream back when the ps2 launched. gaming demographics have grown extensively over the past 10 years or so. secondly, there were ps2 shortages at launch which resulted in sony cutting 50% of its initial shipments globally. furthermore, social media and influencers did not exist back in 2000. easily, 50% of all switch 2 sales were purchased by influencers for work purposes if anything. the ps2 launch sales are still more impressive than switch 2's under the circumstances.
it's all downhill from here for switch 2. nintendo is going to have a hard time selling people on the switch 2 when so many families have perfectly good og switches with a plethora of games to play already. i'm not even going to get into the pricing concerns related to both, the hardware and software. expect nintendo to drop the price like they did with the 3ds if annual sales fail to meet expectations which appears to be the likely scenario.
literally nobody knew this game existed more than 3 months ago. interesting way to release a game — with no lead up or marketing of any kind. i suppose that's what happens when a publisher completely loses faith in the project but has already crossed the point of no return. if this game sunk IO interactive, that would be the real tragedy here.
yes, because people want a p2 remake... you know, a game that cannot be played on modern hardware and has been disrepected by atlus ever since its original release more than 25 years ago! they don't want p4 released for the 4th time. not complicated.
based on the recent pr comments from atlus, it sounds like p6 is a long ways away still... i don't know why people assume its in late stage development and going to release any moment now haha. they haven't released a single teaser of the game... not even a cgi trailer. once they do, it could be years away from that point as we have seen from pervious atlus releases. i.e. i wouldn't expect p6 for at least 2+ years and is likely to launch after the ps6 generation gets off the ground.
would they release p4 AFTER p6? not likely. it sounds like p4 remake is a stop gap for them in between releases... p4 remake itself looks like it is a late 2026 game (they didn't even specifiy a YEAR in the teaser). wouldn't make much sense to release the main course before the appetizer would it?
can't understand the appeal of this game releasing for the 4th time instead of a persona 2 remake. especially after the fan surveys indicated that there was far more interest in a p2 remake above all else. there is so much persona 3/4/5 fatigue right now so it would have been smarter to put out the p2 remake first and give something new to people. vast majority of persona players have never touched p2 due to its lack of availability on any "modern" hardware. even the psp release from 15 years ago was only half complete and merely a slight enhancement of the ps1 release. i sppose i'll keep crying about it until atlus does something.
for the best really. can only play one dragon quest game every 10 years or so (if we are talking about 100 hour completion times)... if this releases by 2027, that would be a perfect amount of time between entries.
sony has no shame and is embarrassing itself at this point. while the spreadsheets indicate that they are still "OK" at the moment, they don't realize the number of bridges they have burned for their core audience this console generation. if i were sony, i would not expect the same hardware sales success with the ps6 (due to presumably higher, unfounded costs to hardware, lack of a roadmap and 1st party studios being in disarray, lack of good will from previously loyal customers, etc.). if they achieve 50% of their sales, it would not surprise me in the slightest. there is time to pivot of course, but easier said than done. the failings of the ps5 will likely carry into the first few years of the ps6 if anything (and that is the optmisitc outcome).
if NR is unable to support their games longterm, they should get out of the fighting genre. it's as simple as that. i can't say i have ever seen such a half-assed effort with a major fighting franchise before. amazing they haven't been shuttered considering WB doesn't value or know what to do with its studios and attempted selling them off multiple times. where the heck does NR go from here? if MK failed to earn proper post launch support, i don't think injustice has a prayer considering it is the less popular of the two franchises.
@themightyant to be fair, it's a lot more games being impacted than just concord and last of us online. bend studio has not released a game in 6 years and as we know, they were knee deep with their live service game before it to was cancelled. there was also bluepoint's live service god of war game that was in development for many years (likely even before demon's souls remake was released). fairgames will likely be canned before we know it or become just another forgettable blip if it does release. there is also the cancelled twisted metal and spiderman live service games. so that's 7 major blows, most of which won't ever see the light of day and recoup even a fraction of their budget back. i wouldn't hold my breath for the horizon mmo game either but remains to be seen...
the main issue is that, despite what some people claim, all these failed black hole live service projects do in fact take resources away from the single player games (that we both agree is sony's biggest strength). hopefully sony and the shareholders will take a look at the entirety of the ps5 gen in a few years and better evaluate how they proceed forward with the ps6. it would be quite sad if no lessons were learned throughout this painful process. as i said in a previous comment above, sony is in a position of privilege in that they can capitalize from other publishers' live service success stories and collect revenue from dlc and mtx. sony themeslves don't need to take all the risks in coming up with a big live service game and can instead stick to what they are good at in the same way nintendo does — primarily great single player games.
@themightyant mlb and gran turismo were essentially live service games since the ps3 era. they didn't need to pivot and change their business models and naturally lend themselves to the "live service" umbrella (even though they are not true live service games). i wouldn't count those in the conversation for other reasons as well, including the fact they are old, tried and tested IP that will sell by default any way you slice it.
now, if we look at sony's track record for new IP that it created specifically under the live-service model, they only have 1 success story and countless failures. that does not bring an air of confidence to anyone. serious question: how many more collossal failures should sony endure before they take a step back?
doom has had its time in the sun with the reboot and sequels. it's been 10 years of doom. i think this will mark the curtain call as people begin to lose interest in the franchise and ID pivots over to quake's revival. that is the only thing that makes sense, right?
most of sony's revenue is generated from 3rd party games... which means sony themselves don't need to take the risk in creating their own live service games! they are in a positon of privilege. why squander your own resources with such risky and high probability of failure projects if you don't have to?! have the shareholders become gamblers and are content on losing more money with all these failing projects? if the goal is to lose money, then sure, keep walking down this path. it makes far more sense to sit by the sidelines, encourage the other publishers to take the risks, find the needles in the haystacks, capture lightning in a bottle... than it does for sony to do so based on their horrendous track record.
the pro live service comments on push square from a few years back have aged like fine wine huh? it must be time to acknowledge that this live service strategy was a bad idea, yes? to me it sounds like jade doesn't want to take flack for the disaster that will inevitably follow once fairgames a) gets cancelled or b) releases and bombs to the same degree of concord. sorry, but jade is not a leader... nor is she a visionary or someone to put on a pedestal as so much of the gaming media has done over the years. why, exactly? she barely has a scratch on her resume. it is difficult to call her a professional as she is clearly running away from her own mess and is too afraid to bare any responsibility for it. yup, just as predicted... things will continue to get worse for sony before this terrible ps5 cycle is over. when will the nightmare end???
@mattitudemf i suppose if the switch 2 had launched a few years ago i would agree with you. but we are in a post-steamdeck and rog ally world now... been there, done that. the novelty has already worn off. it's unfortunate that nintendo is so late to the party. ultimately, the switch 2 port will be the worst way to play the game, even taking the other handhelds in the market into consideration so i'd argue there isn't much to celebrate there. ok, i'll give the benefit of the dobut that the switch 2 port might be on par with the steamdeck performance wise, but remains to be seen.
@Juanalf yup, agreed. i guess when people view it through the lens of a nintendo handheld, nintendo-only gamers got overly about cyberpunk being on the switch 2. but to normal gamers who own a decent PC or a playstation console, there isn't much to get exceited about there.
it falls in between a ps4 and ps4 pro. not much else to say about it really. people got overly excited when they saw cyberpunk running on it haha. it will be severely compromised and the worst platform to play the game on...which was the same story with the witcher 3 on the og switch.
didn't s-e learn anything from expedition 33? no? really?! if a significantly smaller development team can create a goty contender, then why can't s-e? the core ff fans do not want an empy, open world necessarily, nor do they want a button mashy, action-based battle system. get back to the basics with an engaging turn-based battle system and more linearity with the traversal. check all the boxes and you really could speed up development time and slash the budget in half! stop devleoping games in a bubble and learn something from your competition!
they put a 90 day pause on tariffs against china. trump has no leverage and is a bluffer. no, the real problem here is sony continues to subsidize the US market by price hiking everyone else around the world. increase pricing in america and that will balance the books...but that would be asking for too much.
in either case, it seems like people don't care for season 2 as much generally speaking. so even those who were introduced to the last of us via the tv show (season 1) don't much care for the new season which says a lot. on IMBD, the ratings are as follows for the first 4 episodes: 7.4 / 9.3 / 7.1 / 6.5. pretty rough stuff considering almost every episode of season one scored 8's or 9's...
heh what a joke this has become. ps6 is likely to launch in the fall of 2027, a mere year after the release of gta 6. people are far better off holding out on the ps5 / waiting for the ps6 at this rate and play the game as it was meant to be played. it is going to be released on ps5 in a diluted form if we are to understand the reason behind all these delays. it sounds like they are having a tough time implementing all the systems and are running into performance bottlenecks. there is no way 2026 was their intended release date. even 2025 was a year late according to their initial plans. this does not look good.
@JayJ agreed. people should instead be asking: why are there still so many people without a ps5 and why has interest waned in the way it has? the answer is quite obvious but essentially sony and the AAA industry at large have for the most part, under delivered this gen. uneventful, predictable, boring and by the numbers on almost all fronts.
@EfYI i have the first 3 games you mentioned... on ps4. they look and run well on the platform and the enhanced ports don't justify a ps5 purchase for most people. i will miss out on astro bot and spiderman 2 (for now) as well as a few 3rd party games, but again, there simply isn't enough there to justify the ps5 purchase 5 years into the cycle. i think most people have come to the realization that outside of a few heavy hitters like gta 6 and perhaps 2-3 more sony first party titles (which will inevitably hit pc down the line) this is as good as it's going to get. once i have my mid-range pc up and running, i can easily obtain the handful of "exclusives" missing from the ps4 lineup. i'll consider the ps6 when the time comes, but for now, i really don't feel like i am missing much on the ps5...
the potential price increases of the ps5 don't bother me because i have no intention of buying one. i think that much is certain now. sony failed in selling me one and the future looks more bleak than ever on the software side of things. 5 years into the console generation and still waiting for it to get "good" is not encouraging. this just means i'll skip the trending games and focus on the ps4 and earlier. that is arguably a more enjoyable experience than the soulless offerings the modern AAA space has to offer at any rate.
at the very least, sony should consider making the game free to play. that's its best path to survival but sony doesn't understand this simple concept.
what is sony's game here? to continue to subsidize the US market (god forbid they increase the price in the US!) and let the rest of the world pay for the american imposed tariffs on china? what a disgusting move. 4 years into the cycle, the ps5 wasn't even worth its previous asking price. it most certainly isn't worth its asking price more than ever with the price increase. with less than a dozen noteworthy sony first party games likely to make their way for the entire duration of the ps5 (maybe only half of them being exclsusive to ps5 and not available on ps4) it has been a sad generation indeed. this baseless price hike is just icing on the cake.
$140CAD for an 11 year old and a 5 year old game thrown together in a snazy new case... somehow the math works out for sony. it won't work for mostly everybody else. FOMO of years past has reached diminishing returns and people are just tired of it now. switch 2 reactions are a clear indication of that.
cancelld ps+ a year ago after the first major price hike (30% increase i believe it was). no regrets and haven't looked back. gives me more time to worry about the games i really want to play instead of a bunch of "OK-ish" games that i likely wouldn't have purchased... bar a few exceptions.
@QBertFarnsworth agreed. the 1st party offerings are sparse and predictable. this is a problem for those who bought into the ps5 expecting it to live up to the ps4 in that regard. the 3rd party stuff isn't any better... same old sequels to the same old franchises in many cases... to be perfectly honest, i could spend the rest of my life as a gamer digging through the plethora of gems found on ps1, ps2, ps3, psp, nes, snes, n64, gamecube, wii, switch, gba, ds, 3ds etc... these days i spend more time doing exactly that, in addition to the great indie games that continue to fill a niche for "retro" gaming enthusiats. newer isn't necessarily better anymore when it comes to gaming so i'm in no rush to catch up with the latest consoles...
but you're right, it makes sense to keep the budgets smaller as nintendo is doing, rather than continue to fall into a black hole of higher costs and diminishing returns. as far as i know, tears of the kingdom was nintendo's most expensive game to produce at around $150m... sony is investing double that, if not more, for many of its games and they don't even sell a fraction of the copies in most cases. nintendo's software margins must be much, much higher as a result.
@Dodoo agreed 100%. let's enjoy the last few years we have with physical media! for me, the ps4 was the last console i collected seriously for — currently have over 120 physical games for it. but i'm getting close to reaching my shelving space limit so that's that
@Dodoo there is some misinformation about the game key cards. as far as i know, they only replace the switch 2 games in situations where the publisher opted not to create a physical switch cart and instead sold a game physically but with just a download code in the box. so instead of buying a physical switch 2 game that only has the download code, there will now be a game key card inside. what's interesting about this is the fact that with the old model, your digital purchase would be tied to your account and could not be shared. but with game key cards, you are able to lend out your "physical-digital" games to friends and even sell it (not sure this is confirmed 100% but that is the understanding at the moment)
game key cards are not meant to replace switch 2 carts... they are meant to replace switch 2 physical releases that only had download codes in the box. this is giving people more value and freedom in these situations. now, the biggest worry that people have is that the majority of publishers may opt for game key cards instead of actual switch 2 carts in order to save on costs... that is a legit concern but is a very different conversation. all that said, the big publishers are easing off physical media so i think it is safe to say that this will be nintendo's last generation with physical media before it is gone forever... and yes, i believe that by the end of the switch 2 cycle, majority of physical releases will be made up of game key cards and not switch carts.
@QBertFarnsworth agreed. especially when you consider the fact the ps5 is sony's most underwhelming console generation by a wide margin. it's not even up for debate if we're talking sony's 1st party output and what they have brought (or didn't bring) to the table...
doubtful. cyberpunk runs on the base ps4 as well... and very poorly at that. performance wise, switch 2 is comparable to a base ps4 — perhaps slightly more powerful but weaker than a ps4 pro according to DF estimates. switch 2 will absolutely not run games at 4k other than the most primitive indie games. current gen AAA games won't run well on switch 2 unless a ton of effort and resources are poured into the ports. even the base ps5 struggles to hold up steady framerates due to poor optimization with many titles. switch 2 will be no diferent, except there will only be a handful of current gen titles that make it over. so... this is switch 1 all over again and there is no need to get too excited.
i think switch 2 is going to struggle mightily with that pricing model. this might be a 3ds situation all over again and nintendo will need to scramble and slash the price significantly after a poor launch period. people should vote with their wallets here because it is absurd that it will cost more than a ps5 despite being 5X less powerful. as for the $80USD games, good luck with that. nintendo has really destroyed the fun and excitement and does not deserve praise or celebration.
also, i'm not sure why people think the switch 2 will be able to run modern games well. it absolutely won't. it is equivalent to a base ps4 performance wise... maybe slightly better with the faster storage taken into consideration. sure, it might be able to run cyberpunk (as did the ps4), but do you really want to experience that game running at 20fps and at 540p with massive fidelity compromise on top of that? didn't think so.
@PuppetMaster i wasn't aware that this release would be comparable to a "greatist hits" release considering its price point. $110US dollars is $160CA in my country and is the furthest thing from a "budget" release i have ever seen. "greatest hits" games were priced at $30 or less so i don't think that's the intent behind this triple dipping by sony.

sony has no shame and is embarrassing itself at this point. while the spreadsheets indicate that they are still "OK" at the moment, they don't realize the number of bridges they have burned for their core audience this console generation. if i were sony, i would not expect the same hardware sales success with the ps6 (due to presumably higher, unfounded costs to hardware, lack of a roadmap and 1st party studios being in disarray, lack of good will from previously loyal customers, etc.). if they achieve 50% of their sales, it would not surprise me in the slightest. there is time to pivot of course, but easier said than done. the failings of the ps5 will likely carry into the first few years of the ps6 if anything (and that is the optmisitc outcome).
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev Finished with PS5 Fighter, Moving to Next Project
if NR is unable to support their games longterm, they should get out of the fighting genre. it's as simple as that. i can't say i have ever seen such a half-assed effort with a major fighting franchise before. amazing they haven't been shuttered considering WB doesn't value or know what to do with its studios and attempted selling them off multiple times. where the heck does NR go from here? if MK failed to earn proper post launch support, i don't think injustice has a prayer considering it is the less popular of the two franchises.
Re: Fairgames, One of Sony's Last Live-Service PS5 Games, Loses Studio Founder Amid Internal Worries
Re: Fairgames, One of Sony's Last Live-Service PS5 Games, Loses Studio Founder Amid Internal Worries
Re: Inquiry Already Underway Over Lacklustre DOOM: The Dark Ages Opening
doom has had its time in the sun with the reboot and sequels. it's been 10 years of doom. i think this will mark the curtain call as people begin to lose interest in the franchise and ID pivots over to quake's revival. that is the only thing that makes sense, right?
Re: Like It or Loathe It, This Is Why Sony Won't Stop Trying to Make Live Service Games for PS5
most of sony's revenue is generated from 3rd party games... which means sony themselves don't need to take the risk in creating their own live service games! they are in a positon of privilege. why squander your own resources with such risky and high probability of failure projects if you don't have to?! have the shareholders become gamblers and are content on losing more money with all these failing projects? if the goal is to lose money, then sure, keep walking down this path. it makes far more sense to sit by the sidelines, encourage the other publishers to take the risks, find the needles in the haystacks, capture lightning in a bottle... than it does for sony to do so based on their horrendous track record.
Re: Fairgames, One of Sony's Last Live-Service PS5 Games, Loses Studio Founder Amid Internal Worries
the pro live service comments on push square from a few years back have aged like fine wine huh? it must be time to acknowledge that this live service strategy was a bad idea, yes? to me it sounds like jade doesn't want to take flack for the disaster that will inevitably follow once fairgames a) gets cancelled or b) releases and bombs to the same degree of concord. sorry, but jade is not a leader... nor is she a visionary or someone to put on a pedestal as so much of the gaming media has done over the years. why, exactly? she barely has a scratch on her resume. it is difficult to call her a professional as she is clearly running away from her own mess and is too afraid to bare any responsibility for it. yup, just as predicted... things will continue to get worse for sony before this terrible ps5 cycle is over. when will the nightmare end???
Re: PS5 vs Switch 2: Full Tech Specs Comparison
@mattitudemf i suppose if the switch 2 had launched a few years ago i would agree with you. but we are in a post-steamdeck and rog ally world now... been there, done that. the novelty has already worn off. it's unfortunate that nintendo is so late to the party. ultimately, the switch 2 port will be the worst way to play the game, even taking the other handhelds in the market into consideration so i'd argue there isn't much to celebrate there. ok, i'll give the benefit of the dobut that the switch 2 port might be on par with the steamdeck performance wise, but remains to be seen.
Re: PS5 vs Switch 2: Full Tech Specs Comparison
@Juanalf yup, agreed. i guess when people view it through the lens of a nintendo handheld, nintendo-only gamers got overly about cyberpunk being on the switch 2. but to normal gamers who own a decent PC or a playstation console, there isn't much to get exceited about there.
Re: PS5 vs Switch 2: Full Tech Specs Comparison
it falls in between a ps4 and ps4 pro. not much else to say about it really. people got overly excited when they saw cyberpunk running on it haha. it will be severely compromised and the worst platform to play the game on...which was the same story with the witcher 3 on the og switch.
Re: Square Enix Demands Bigger Games, Faster Development as Sales Continue to Slump
didn't s-e learn anything from expedition 33? no? really?! if a significantly smaller development team can create a goty contender, then why can't s-e? the core ff fans do not want an empy, open world necessarily, nor do they want a button mashy, action-based battle system. get back to the basics with an engaging turn-based battle system and more linearity with the traversal. check all the boxes and you really could speed up development time and slash the budget in half! stop devleoping games in a bubble and learn something from your competition!
Re: Even More PS5 Price Increases Being Considered by Sony
@UltimateOtaku91 agreed. sony already increased the cost of ps5 hardware and ps+ to all territories except america so it is long overdue.
Re: Even More PS5 Price Increases Being Considered by Sony
they put a 90 day pause on tariffs against china. trump has no leverage and is a bluffer. no, the real problem here is sony continues to subsidize the US market by price hiking everyone else around the world. increase pricing in america and that will balance the books...but that would be asking for too much.
Re: Rumour: New PS5 Pro Update Could Give Frame Rates and Resolutions a Massive Boost
ps5 pro really does feel like an experiment... merely a test bad for the ps6. if you are OK being a QA tester, then have fun with that
Re: Just Like the Game, The Last of Us 2's TV Adaptation Is Getting Review Bombed
in either case, it seems like people don't care for season 2 as much generally speaking. so even those who were introduced to the last of us via the tv show (season 1) don't much care for the new season which says a lot. on IMBD, the ratings are as follows for the first 4 episodes: 7.4 / 9.3 / 7.1 / 6.5. pretty rough stuff considering almost every episode of season one scored 8's or 9's...
Re: PS5 Pro Is No Longer the Most Expensive Console You Can Buy
sony won't be happy with this news. they will have to rectify it by increasing the price of the ps5 for the third time, right? they will. watch.
Re: GTA 6 Delayed to 2026, Out on 26th May 2026
heh what a joke this has become. ps6 is likely to launch in the fall of 2027, a mere year after the release of gta 6. people are far better off holding out on the ps5 / waiting for the ps6 at this rate and play the game as it was meant to be played. it is going to be released on ps5 in a diluted form if we are to understand the reason behind all these delays. it sounds like they are having a tough time implementing all the systems and are running into performance bottlenecks. there is no way 2026 was their intended release date. even 2025 was a year late according to their initial plans. this does not look good.
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
the potential price increases of the ps5 don't bother me because i have no intention of buying one. i think that much is certain now. sony failed in selling me one and the future looks more bleak than ever on the software side of things. 5 years into the console generation and still waiting for it to get "good" is not encouraging. this just means i'll skip the trending games and focus on the ps4 and earlier. that is arguably a more enjoyable experience than the soulless offerings the modern AAA space has to offer at any rate.
Re: PS5 Fans Give Bungie's Marathon the Cold Shoulder, 34% Say You'd Have to Pay Them to Play
at the very least, sony should consider making the game free to play. that's its best path to survival but sony doesn't understand this simple concept.
Re: PS5 Price Increases Announced by Sony, Affect UK, Europe, and More
what is sony's game here? to continue to subsidize the US market (god forbid they increase the price in the US!) and let the rest of the world pay for the american imposed tariffs on china? what a disgusting move.
Re: The Last of Us Has Been Released on PS5 Again, with a New Physical Collector's Edition Coming in July
they're going to kill the cow! please be respectful of animal rights!
Re: Sounds Like Amazon's Tomb Raider TV Show in Jeopardy as It's Reported 'Dead'
i'm sure the game is as well.
Re: The Last of Us Complete Out Today at $99.99 on PS5, Physical Collector's Edition Drops in July
$140CAD for an 11 year old and a 5 year old game thrown together in a snazy new case... somehow the math works out for sony. it won't work for mostly everybody else. FOMO of years past has reached diminishing returns and people are just tired of it now. switch 2 reactions are a clear indication of that.
Re: New Dragon's Dogma 2 Patch Is Just Trolling Us at This Point
don't know why this franchise got a sequel in the first place. should have put that money towards a new breath of fire game instead.
Re: PS Plus Price Increases Confirmed for 15 Countries by Sony
cancelld ps+ a year ago after the first major price hike (30% increase i believe it was). no regrets and haven't looked back. gives me more time to worry about the games i really want to play instead of a bunch of "OK-ish" games that i likely wouldn't have purchased... bar a few exceptions.
Re: Feature: PS5's Not Perfect, But Here Are 5 Ways It's More Consumer Friendly Than Switch 2
Re: PlayStation Is Dying to Know What You Think of Nintendo Switch 2 in Player Survey
@Dodoo agreed 100%. let's enjoy the last few years we have with physical media! for me, the ps4 was the last console i collected seriously for — currently have over 120 physical games for it. but i'm getting close to reaching my shelving space limit so that's that
Re: PlayStation Is Dying to Know What You Think of Nintendo Switch 2 in Player Survey
Re: Feature: PS5's Not Perfect, But Here Are 5 Ways It's More Consumer Friendly Than Switch 2
@QBertFarnsworth agreed. especially when you consider the fact the ps5 is sony's most underwhelming console generation by a wide margin. it's not even up for debate if we're talking sony's 1st party output and what they have brought (or didn't bring) to the table...
Re: Switch 2 Isn't Targeting People Who Want 'High-Performance Hardware', Like PS5 Pro
doubtful. cyberpunk runs on the base ps4 as well... and very poorly at that. performance wise, switch 2 is comparable to a base ps4 — perhaps slightly more powerful but weaker than a ps4 pro according to DF estimates. switch 2 will absolutely not run games at 4k other than the most primitive indie games. current gen AAA games won't run well on switch 2 unless a ton of effort and resources are poured into the ports. even the base ps5 struggles to hold up steady framerates due to poor optimization with many titles. switch 2 will be no diferent, except there will only be a handful of current gen titles that make it over. so... this is switch 1 all over again and there is no need to get too excited.
Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Looks Solid But the Many PS5, PS4 Ports Won't Spook Sony Yet
i think switch 2 is going to struggle mightily with that pricing model. this might be a 3ds situation all over again and nintendo will need to scramble and slash the price significantly after a poor launch period. people should vote with their wallets here because it is absurd that it will cost more than a ps5 despite being 5X less powerful. as for the $80USD games, good luck with that. nintendo has really destroyed the fun and excitement and does not deserve praise or celebration.
also, i'm not sure why people think the switch 2 will be able to run modern games well. it absolutely won't. it is equivalent to a base ps4 performance wise... maybe slightly better with the faster storage taken into consideration. sure, it might be able to run cyberpunk (as did the ps4), but do you really want to experience that game running at 20fps and at 540p with massive fidelity compromise on top of that? didn't think so.
Re: Sony Reportedly Gearing Up to Sell You The Last of Us on PS5 One More Time
@PuppetMaster i wasn't aware that this release would be comparable to a "greatist hits" release considering its price point. $110US dollars is $160CA in my country and is the furthest thing from a "budget" release i have ever seen. "greatest hits" games were priced at $30 or less so i don't think that's the intent behind this triple dipping by sony.
