The Katamari Damacy series is one of gaming's greatest joys, and so it's great to see it make a grand return with a brand new entry: Once Upon a Katamari.
Unlike the remasters released in the last few years, Once Upon a Katamari is an all-new game, as you can see in the reveal trailer:
In this game, you'll need to roll up objects to form stars yet again, only this time, you'll be travelling through different eras.
Special items can be employed to help you complete missions, like a magnet that attracts nearby objects and a timer that freezes things in place.
You'll also be able to fully customise the Prince and his cousins however you like. There's also a four-player competitive online mode called KatamariBall, though details are thin on that for now.
The soundtrack is composed of returning artists and some new ones, and it's sounding pretty catchy so far.
The game launches on 24th October 2025, available digitally and physically.
Pre-ordering gets you some early customisation unlocks, and two DLC packs will also be available. One contains lots of songs from previous games, while the other includes a bunch of customisation parts from older titles.
Finally, if you have save data from Katamari Damacy Reroll or We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie, you'll get access to the King of All Cosmos in his childhood form as a playable, customisable character.

69 cousins, you say?
I never expected a new Katamari but I wholeheartedly welcome it
First I need to play both previously released titles to catch up on the story.
Nice. More of that way of thinking from Namco please.
Ridge Racer 8 next.
Loved the original releases but just couldn't master the tank controls effectively enough in the re-releases. Either its my age or they are just terrible controls.
I can't never get into katamari games.just like digimon.but I enjoy medievel. Sir Daniel fortesque. Word up son
I have loved this series from its beginnings on PS2. Quirky and addictive. I’ve been playing the PS5 re-rolls recently and have those songs stuck in my head all over again. Can’t wait for this!
@Czar_Khastik No need, they're always complete nonsense... and I mean that in a good way!
@Czar_Khastik Don't forget to read the accompanying novel
@Czar_Khastik Dude same, just ordered a used copy of We love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie and promptly Namco reveals a new game. You are all welcome!
@Michael2008ish Pretty sure there's a one stick control option in at least one of the re-releases.
Now, that is an advert.
wow. what can you say? after 14 long years, the katamari series is finally getting a new entry. they certainly nailed the look of this. spot on. now takahashi, the original creator, left namco long ago and "we love katamari" was his last project with them, but i have hope that the new studio managed to do this series justice. looking forward to this!
Can never get sick of this series. Just really simple but overwhelming fun. Was so happy with the recent remasters of the old Katamari games. Thought this was another, but a brand new one? I'll gladly play it.
@MrPeanutbutterz Haven't booted them up for a while, but pretty sure there wasn't a one stick option. I would've jumped on that option 😂
@Michael2008ish Fair! I'll boot later and report back... could have sworn there was 😂
(but you're right - the original controls are not great)
